  1. Congrats! When did you send in the last package and what did you send in specifically? I'm just about to send it back in and was wondering how long it was taking now. Congrats! How long was it after your husband went to the states until you sent your package? My husband left November 24 and I am hoping to send it in next week.

  2. When I was waiting for my package to be sent back in October (after 8 weeks of waiting), I emailed them on two different occasions and I did receive the auto reply but never a response. I also emailed them a few days before my interview in August and I titled it "Interview question" and they responded within one day. So, I emailed them last week with the title as "MTL2009xxxxxx" and the one I sent today is titled "Interview/appointment", so I'm hoping that the title thingy might work and get their attention.

Is there anyone right now that is waiting to hear back from the consulate after sending in additional proof? Does anyone know of someone waiting?

  3. Hi Everyone,

Well, I've emailed twice and haven't heard back. I tried calling but you can not get a live person on the other end. I do remember a while back calling them and talking with someone but maybe I just have the wrong number. Maybe if I call the Toronto office they will put me through to a real person!!! Anyone have any phone numbers??

  4. Hey everyone. Well I emailed them and explained that the officer told me I could come back in person or send it snail mail. So I asked if I could set up appointment or just come in....so we'll see how that goes!!

If I find out that we can just come in during regular hours....I have three empty seats for anyone that wants to go for a drive!!!! LOL Obviously we are all on different process times, but if anyone actually is ready to go in a couple of weeks....AND they say we can come at certain hours....than the offer to drive in ON!!

  5. Hi everyone, just wondering if one can call the embassy and book an appointment for immigration visas? I know that they won't see you without an appointment, so I thought I could book an appt. and bring in all of my proof of domicile so I wouldn't have to wait for their 'mail system'. I'm going to email them to try to set up an appointment and I'll let you know if I get a response.

On my way home from my initial interview (after being denied) the officer left a message on my phone and said that I could either send it in via mail, or come back personally to Montreal.....so maybe there is a chance???

  6. Hey Trailmix, thanks for all the help. I just thought about something though, my husband has moved (in the past week) so he has a new address. So, when I send in the package next week, should I have my husband say that he is officially changing his address in his letter? Or is there another process I have to do in order to changes his address? Thanks.

  7. Ok, I think I'm almost ready to send in more proof of domicile, please let me know if you think this is enough or sufficient:

    1. New lease from apartment in New Jersey

    2. Employee contract - which states company, hire date, work location (New Jersey), his address, and terms of employment

    3. Storage unit rental in New Jersey

    4. New Jersey cell phone

    5. Letter from 'Kindercare' daycare/preschool stating: as per our conversation.....your children 'x' and 'y' will be able to register at our school for this price. Please come in to register once you move to 'xxxx' New Jersey. It's a personal letter addressed to my husband and I and it has him NJ address on it.

    6. Cover letter from myself stating what is included

    7. A letter from my husband (AMCITS) stating that he resides in NJ, works in NJ, and would like his family to be able to move down to reunite

So, let me know what you think and if anyone has any tips on the two letters from myself or my husband, please feel free to add them. Do you think it's a good idea for my husband to add his own letter to this package?

    Thanks for your help.

  9. Thanks Trailmix for starting this forum. I will be sending in my package in a few weeks with our 'new' proof of domicile and that will include:

A new lease (since he took a new job in a new state); his employee contract which states: the company he works for, the area that he is responsible for (New Jersey), his start date and other contractual info; and I'm hoping to get something for the kids school/preschool registration. With the help of INK, I was told to show intent by getting the kids 'potentially' registered with a school/preschool. My problem is that they (twins) are only 4 so they would be going to a preschool, so I guess I will have to contact a preschool in the area and get them to right a letter stating that they could register there if and when they move to the area. Does anyone have experience with this? The twins are American and Canadian so there's no issue with that, but I need help in providing intent to move there and evidence for my children's school. Thanks to INK, he had mentioned that the school that they would be going to would not register them until they lived in the area, so they sent in proof of research on the school. I will defentely call the schools tomorrow and find out.

One last question: If I have the job contract, lease agreement and something from a school, do you think that that would be good enough to send?

    Thanks

  10. Hi Everyone,

I will be sending in more proof of domicile probably the first week of January but I was just wondering what the wait time seems like right now. The first time I sent proof back it took about 4 weeks (August/September), the second time I sent in proof (beginning of Sept.) it took 9 weeks. So, just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the wait. Is there anyone out there that has sent in proof of domicile or something else and is waiting?? Thanks for your help.

  11. Thank you for your advice...I'll try to stay cool and calm! LOL When I was first told on the interview day to send in proof of domicile, I asked the officer specifically what he wanted and it was like pulling a tooth to get an answer. He just said send in what you think is right!!! He seemed to be annoyed when I kept asking for specifics so I politely said, "I just want to know these answers because once I leave this office, there is no one that I can call and ask". THen when I got my first denial in the mail, I phoned him and asked what other kind of domicile proof I needed, and agian is was a painful answer, but everything that he asked for, I sent in. I do know for a fact that they have access to the border computer system that can tell you when a particular person has entered Canada and when they entered back into the states. So I think since my husband visits for a month or two here and there (fortunetly he can afford this), they consider him 'living' here and not in the States. So, our goal is for him not to come back to Canada at all and send in new proof of domicile...kind of like starting a new life over!! LOL So hopefully this helps.

  12. Hello everyone! It's been a very long time since I've been on here and it's all because I was so bummed about my interview in AUGUST!!!

Quick History - I married my husband in 2001 and I've always lived in Canada and my spouse stays up here for a few months and then goes home (back and forth all year/every year) due to his work. Anyways, we applied in March 2008 for I130 and it was finally sent to California, approved, NVC this past March 09 and interview in August.

August 12 Interview - weird experience! He denied me that day for three reasons:

a)Didn't believe my marriage certificate was real!!!

    B) Wanted a certain American tax form from my husband, which I explained he doesn't get because he is self employed

    c) proof of domicile

So I was totally upset and left Montreal the same day. On the way home, I called my home answering machine and there was a message from the officer that interviwed me saying:

    a) He did his own "independant" research and found out the marriage certificate was real (could have done that on the spot but any hoo)

    B) And, yeah, about the tax form, I did a little more research and it seems your husband doesn't need that form (DUH, I just told you that at interview)

    c) no need for proof of domicle

So then he says, we can issue you a visa, either just come back to the embassy or just mail back your passport. He left his name and number and said, "IF you have any questions please feel free to call me.

So, the next day when I got home I send my passport back. Four weeks later, I get it back with a letter stating that they now need proof of domicile!!!!! #######!!!! excuse my french

So, I had my husband send me the following: lease agreement, bank account statements, vehicle registrations, auto insurance, video store card, grocery store card, utility bills, etc (all of these were suggested by the officer) and I then sent them in. 8 weeks later I hadn't heard from them (emailed them twice...no response) so husband and I contacted Senator. The Senator sent an email and one week later I received my passport back with NO VISA and a letter saying "AMCITS MUST return to the US and establish domicile." Send in proof of re-domicile when you have it.

ARGHHHHHH!!!! I don't understand, I know my husband is up here a lot but he is just a visitor! Does the US consolute think that I want a US VISA to REMAIN IN CANADA!!! NO, I want to be with my family in the US!!!

I don't know if I said this before but the officer left me his name and number on my answering maching (when he left me the original message on August 12) and said to call him if I have any questions. Well when I called and asked him a question....he got mad at me for calling and said "This is why I don't give out my number, I have 25 cases to work on and by talking to you, I am not working on those cases!!!!" Why did he tell me to call if I had any questions??

So this has now resulted in the following: my husband has permanently left Canada (today) and will not return until my VISA is approved, he had to find employment (even though he is self employed - was told by consolute he needed a contract by another employer), he has to rent/lease a new apartment (extra costs that we don't need), open new accounts (even though he has existing ones), and establish anything possible to add to proof of domicile. I don't know what else they could want. We've been married for almost 8 years, we have three kids (who are dual citizens) and we can't be together!!

I need help, support, advice....anything! Sorry about the length and hope to hear from all of you.

  13. Poprocks won't agree with me on this one but my favourite place in the US is DELAWARE...specifically the outskirts of Dover!! I've been to California several times and wouldn't want to live there, I've been to the Northeast a lot, New Jersey, Florida, N & S Carolina and Michigan/Ohio/Illinois a lot, but I found Delaware to be the best. It's clean, people are nice, more land for the money, NO TAXES!!! and I just get a great feeling when I am there. Even though I don't want to live in other states, I did enjoy myself and have no problems with them, I just like my Delaware. :)

  14. I was reading about people activating their visa and a lot of people gave advice about not doing it until you are ready to move. Is that because they have a different visa than myself or something else?? I just want to make sure that I don't screw it up when I go.

  15. How did you do that? I swear I just spent about 30 minutes looking through pages and search key words and I didn't come up with anything! Thank you! I read it over and now remember. Has anyone on here actually 'activated' GC and then turned around? Anyone know of anyone so that I may email them and find out some info? Thanks again.

  16. Hi everyone,

I think I have asked this before but I can't find my post anywhere and can't remember what the answer was. Anyways with my VISA for I130 IR-1?? can I just go down to the border and get it activated without physically moving there that day. I would like to get it activated, apply for SSN and start applying for jobs while continuing to work in Canada (only for a couple of months). Is this possible or do they want you to import your car and personal belongings at the same time? Basically, I just want to activate and come back the same day. Thanks for any info guys.

  17. Hi everyone. I made it to Montreal this afternoon with no problems! I'm staying at Marriott Chateau Champlain and I'm planning on walking there tomorrow and getting there around 6:45....early but I hate the idea of being late. So, fingers crossed for me and I'll let everyone know how it goes tomorrow! Bye for now.....

  18. Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you are supposed to dress up for this interview. I wasn't going to be in beach wear....lol....but I was planning on very casual. Also, I noticed someone gave the address for the interview in a previous post and I had a different one. I would like to mapquest it, so if anyone knows the address i should mapquest for the interview please relay it to me. Thanks everyone.

  19. Hey Everyone,

Well the time is almost here!! I am leaving on Tuesday for Montreal. I booked two nights at Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain, which according to mapquest, it is .80 miles away from consolute, so I will take a taxi on Wednesday morning. I'm also staying over on Wednesday to pick up my Visa on Thursday (assuming VISA is issued/approved!!). Any last minute tips for me? After reading everyone's posts, I think I'll get there just before 7:00, since it's the summer time, I don't mind waiting outside for a while. I'm bringing my medical (which I picked up yesterday), my passport photos, my passport, all other i.d., copies of all documents sent to NVC, and colour photocopies of pictures of me and my husband for the past 8 years. So, if you see that I am missing something, please let me know. And if you have any other suggestions....let me know!

    Thanks everyone.

I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes on Wednesday as well.

  20. Hi everyone,

Well, I had my medical today and I think/hope all went well. The doctor said I will know if everything is okay if I receive a sealed envelope on Friday when I go and pick up the results! So here's to a sealed envelope!! Anyways, I left Hamilton at 5:30 this morning and got to Toronto parking lot (which is one street past clinic) at 6:30. At 6:40 I started to walk towards office and the door was locked. A few minutes later two more people showed up. A lady let us in a few minutes before 7:00. She took the first two pages of interview confirmation and then we went to a waiting room. There were people already in the waiting room so I'm guessing the front desk lady comes out between 6:30 and 7:00 and lets people in as they come. First they call you in to take your info and collect everything and pay, then the chest xray, then blood work and then physical. All in all, it was a smooth process and I was out of the office and in car by 9:08. I was missing my booster shot (hadn't gotten one in over ten years) so I went directly to my doctor and got one and then faxed Toronto office with proof of shot. I'm going back to TO on Friday to pick up results, so if everything goes smootly with that, I'll be heading to Montreal next Tuesday for my Wednesday interview!!! So, hope this helps everyone. The whole staff was great, but it kind of felt like we were sheep and being herd through everything. The only complaint was the xray lady was obviously experienced at this but was in a rush to complete everyone and was trying to hurry you....can't hurry a 1/2 naked lady with chest exposed and slamming xray wall thingy up and down!! OUCH!! Slow down lady and smile!! Other than that it was great.
