  1. It will start on the day you became permanent residence. Look at your first green card there is a date there when you became permanent residence.

Quick question. To become a citizen after 3 years of lawful permanent residence as married to a U.S citizen, when is that 3 years starting to count?

A). The day that one entered into U.S as K-1 visa.

    B) The day one you get the green card from I-485 as conditional residence

C). The day that one removes the conditional with I-751.

    I assume that's not A, but is it B or C?

    Thanks.

  2. Congratulations!

I arrived at the office at 8:30am for my 9am interview. Was told to go upstairs, drop off my letter and wait. The waiting area was pretty empty - there were maybe 5 other people waiting. Waited and waited and at 9:40am my name was called. A very quiet and kind officer brought me to his office, had me swear to tell the truth and we got down to business.

First thing he asked me was for my Green Card and if I had any extra "marital evidence" to add to my folder. I handed him by tax returns for the last 3 years and a copy of our bank statements and lease. Then it was time to get down to business. He told me he would ask me a question and if I couldn't understand him he would repeat himself and I shouldn't be afraid to ask. First thing was to read "who elects Congress" and I had to write "the people elect congress". Then it was time for the questions:

    1. Who wrote the declaration of independence?

    2. Name one state that borders Mexico.

    3. Which political party does the president belong to?

    4. Name 3 of the first 13 colonies.

    5. What are the 2 political parties in the United States?

    6. How many US Senators are there?

He said I passed and would have to now wait for my invitation to the oath ceremony. He said it is done a first come first serve basis - I know there is one next week in Milwaukee and asked about getting in on that one, he said he wasn't sure and I would just have to wait for the letter.

Left with a letter saying congrats and a big smile on my face. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long for the oath ceremony!

  3. The woman from the video was petitioned by her mother so maybe that is the reason why there is no thick file of documents. :P That question"How did you get to USA" must be something we should watch out!

I noticed too that nobody here posted that they were asked those types of questions like: How did you get to USA and who do we fought during the Revolutionary war and yes, the whole thick File of documents were not there like most people whose done with this journey were saying! :P
  4. Thanks for sharing your experience and congratulations! Did he asked you how did you get to USA?

I had my citizenship interview today, and I thought that I'd share my information with anyone who might be interested in knowing how it was. My appointment was at 7:40, and I arrived at 7:15. There were A LOT of people there, so I had to wait until 8:30 to be called back for my interview. The man who interviewed me was very nice, and he asked me for my green card, DL, and passport. He started sorting through the papers in my file, and then asked me a couple of questions from the N-400. He asked if I had been arrested, if I was associated with terrorists, and asked me if I had copies of certain papers (he was really happy that I had my own copies, so it's a good idea to take copies of everything). The papers he needed were the selective service paper, my wife's birth certificate, and our wedding certificate.

He had me read the sentence, "How many Senators do we have?" Then he had me write, "We have one hundred Senators." After that, he asked me these questions (obviously he asked them the same way you find them in the book -- I just summed them up)...

    1. What do the stripes on the flag represent?

    2. What happened on September 11, 2001?

    3. What is Abraham Lincoln famous for?

    4. Who does a Senator represent?

    5. Which state borders Mexico?

    6. What is a right that only a U.S. citizen has?

The entire interview took only 20 minutes, and he asked me if I wanted to do the oath the same day (which I accepted).

Very happy that it went well! I hope this helps anyone who is having their interview in Irving!

  5. Thanks v3335, I feel so much better now.

You should NOT be worried. If you go after April 15 and they ask you about the returns, and you say you didn't file, then that will be a situation you should worry about.

I think this is the extent of their questions regarding 2009 tax returns:

They might ask you - did you already file this year?

you can answer - Not yet.

They might ask - do you intend to file before April 15th?

    You Should say - yes.

OK that's it! They can't force you to file before the deadline set by the IRS.

  6. Sunny808, I am too worried that they will ask for 2009 tax my interview is March 4 and I dont think we will file by then.

HappyOne, good to know that you got your interview letter. Don't worry about selective service registration, that's only for males 18-26 years old (unless I'm assuming too much and that you are female). Don't worry too about 2009 taxes, 2006-2008 is what is expected at this time of year.
  7. If you will look the form at the bottom right corner you willl see the edition date which is 01/22/2009 and this form expires 12/31/09. So, this form is still good to go. When do you need to file your application??? Please read below I copied and paste that from USCIS website.

"Please note that USCIS is currently accepting the 01/22/2009 version of Form N-400. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is still reviewing our request for an extension of this form. We will post the form with the new expiration date once OMB approves it."

  8. These are the edition dates that are accepted according to the USCIS website: Edition Dates : 01/22/09. 10/15/07, 07/30/07, 11/01/06, 05/31/01 can be used. No other editions accepted.

Do not leave blank if it is not applicable to you just put N/A

Not sure if they want the exact dates.

    Hello Vjers!

I'm planning to send my N-400 application on Feb.

I just have few questions. Hope you guys can help

    1. What version should I use? is 12/31/09 ok?

    2. What should I write down if the question is not applicable? Can I leave it blank?

    3. Do they need the exact date of the employment for the past 5 years? Because I don't remember some of them.

    Thank you in advance =)

  10. You might want to ask your employer to give you a letter saying that you've been working in their company since you move to Rochester.

I recently had my citizenship interview but was asked to submit documents to prove I lived in Rochester ny 90 days prior to applying for citizenship the reason was I had an ohio license, it would be great if you guys can tell me what documents would be enough,I know lease agreement and phone bill but what else
  11. Thanks, Nick!!!

Hi to all!!! On page 5 question letter G of N400 application, the quesstion is "How many times has your current spouse been married including annulled marriages?" Should I include my spouse's marriage to me???? thanks.

Had that same question when I first saw that, answer is yes, the total number of marriages including the present marriage, for me, with one previous marriage, put down a 2.

If your spouse had 100 previous marriages, has to send in the annulment and/or the divorce papers for each one. One for me seemed like one too many since we already gave them all that stuff for the AOS to get my wife her green card, but the USCIS seems to forget about all that stuff we had to go through.

  12. Hi, We did not submit an affidavit but we got approved in less than 2 months. We dont have children or lease, but you do. So, dont worry about not having affidavit. Good Luck to you.

    I-751 went out today.

We decided not to get affidavits from friends, as we have a lot of supporting evidence (children, renters agreement, insurance, etc.). Will this affect our decision?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but going forward we:

    1. Wait for an appointment to have biometrics done within 6 months.

    2. Receive a 10 year green card within 6 - 12 months.

    3. Pursue full citizenship thereafter.

I should add that I've used this site to from the very beginning of the K1 Visa process and it has worked FLAWLESSLY. We spent no money on attorneys.

How can I make a donation to support visajourney.com?

Good luck to you all on your visa journeys.

  14. I sent out mine on Dec 29 and had my biometrics on Jan 27, 2009

hello.i have just a one simple question  . once you mailed all the documents and that I-751 form to the USCIS, when did you go for the biometrics and fingerprints. i just mailed everything to the immigration sometime this week, they got it on friday the 6th of march, so i am guessing i might be going for the biometrics sometime in april??? well, i am just being curious, we have a 2 week vacation planned, leaving the last week of april, so i am just hoping i will be done with the biometrics by then.thanks
  15. That what exactly I received, then 10 days later my card arrived. :)

I sent out all my stuff to CSC in December 2008. In January, I got a letter saying my application was received and is being processed. My green card was extended for a year and that I would get another letter for biometrics. I kept waiting and waiting for the biometrics appointment. Then I got this most recent letter (see attachment) that said I was approved. Is this too good to be true? I'm almost afraid to be happy thinking that it might be a mistake. Has this happened to anyone else?

I went through a divorce last year and had to petition for myself based on a bonafied marriage. This situation alone made me weary about the process and whether I would be approved or not. I was planning to be in this for the long haul. I'm still cautious about this news and just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.
