  1. Thanks again Colombia Club, Diana and VJ. We received our letter today congratulating Leidys and I for her complete removal of conditions - paving the way for her 10 yr. Green Card! These threads helped me from the assembling of Packets to the Embassy Interview process, even through the Adjustment of Status process. Now, we just have to wait a week or two for the Green Card to arrive, and this Spring, drive to Mexico for $1 Mahi Mahi Tacos and $3 Margaritas! Yippee!

Good to see you and Leidys, too, Ken!

  2. I am starting this new thread as a continuation to the previous Colombia Club threads that are located in the US Embassy and Consulate Discussion Forum. It seems that most new members end up in the Latin & South America forum to look for answers anyway, so it makes more sense to keep the threads here. Remember, this thread is mainly for English speakers since there are separate Spanish Colombian threads already.

Here are the links to the previous Colombia Club threads. Feel free to browse through them to get more information regarding all kinds of things such as USCIS, NVC, embassy, lodging, air ticket fares, etc.

    Diana,

Long time no talk to! You are still helping the Colombianas y Colombianos thru the "journey" - very cool!

  3. Thanks Joe. I notice in your signature that you are getting an RFE on your AOS; does it ever stop for you? I hope that it's only something minor that you can quickly correct.

    Robert

    Hey Robert,

It was for not having her birth cert. not translated into English. It passed ok at the K1 level, but for AOS they nailed me! I had it translated and sent back- assuming it is now moving forwayd..... but, "assume" can be a bad word!

  4. Just got notified that we've received an RFE- this is what it looks like for anyone that's interested!

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Request for Evidence

On January 25, 2011, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested. Meanwhile, processing of this case is on hold until we either receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once you submit the evidence requested and a decision is made, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

A request for evidence is made when an application/petition is lacking required documentation/evidence (initial evidence) or the officer needs more documentation/evidence (additional evidence) to determine an applicant's eligibility for the benefit sought. We may send you a request for evidence at any stage of our review. The request will indicate what evidence or information is needed for us to fully evaluate your application or petition. The notice will explain where to send the evidence and will give the deadline for your response. Your application or petition will be held in suspense during that time. If you receive a request for evidence and have questions about what you need to submit, you may call our National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

    We'll see what it's for....

  5. Visa in hand! (wow that was REALLY fast!)

Domesa delivered the visa to our address (in Bogota) today! It only took 3 days from the interview to deliver, not sure if its because it is the new year so they were able to process it fast or what! Regardless we are happy and are starting to look for flights to take!

CONGRATS- make sure not to open the sealed envelope portion!

  6. Hi

Finally I got the idea to get state ID to stop carrying my passport with me all the time (for drinks or buying cigarettes).

AOS package was filed in Dec'10, adjusting status from K-1 visa.

And what I found on DMV web site was that besides SSN I also need to provide them with the evidence of legal presence in US.

In California, they say, the following might be used as legal presence evidence:

    * Permanent Resident Card - dont have it

    * Temporary Resident Identification Card - what is that?!

    * Valid foreign passport with a valid Record of Arrival/Departure (form I-94) - I have passport but is I-94 valid after the date of the stamp? Mine says Jan 02 2011

    * "Processed for I-551" stamped in a valid foreign passport - nope

    * Employment Authorization Card - dont have it yet

    * Notice of Action (I-797 Approved Petition) – must indicate approved extension of stay or change in status that grants temporary or permanent residency, or indicates that an original, duplicate or renewal Resident Alien card is forthcoming. - hmmm, does anybody know about this NOA? When they send it? After the Interview?

As all I have in the moment is my passport with I-94, NOA1 for AOS and NOA for Biometrics appointment.

Hm, do you think it is worth trying to get inside DMV with that and try to apply state id/driving licence?

I tried to get my gal a California ID card (same rules apply to getting a DL) at the DMV after she got here. All we had to show them was her I-94 which is valid for 90 after she arrived on the K1 visa. The catch is that it must have 60 days or more validity left on it- when we went it had like 50 days validity left before expiring. Went thru the whole process at the DMV and when we got to the final step to pay for it, the computer caught it and we got shut down!

  7. I cross fingers you won't get it!

Strange, but all emails I've got (on AOS/EAD) are with 'USCIS Acceptance Confirmation' subject but package was sent to Chicago and RFE came from Lee's Summit.

    Is it NBC?

Here is some info I found that may help clarify:

What used to be called Missouri Service Center is now the National Benefits Center. It is located in Lee's Summit, MO.

All (no matter where in the country you live) applicants' AOS paperwork goes to the National Benefits Center (NBC) at Lee's Summit, MO after being cleared through the Chicago Lockbox. Despite it being called NBC, they still use case numbers starting with MSC. NBC handles the approval of EAD and AP. An applicant's AOS paperwork (I-485) could sit there at NBC for a while before being sent to either their local field office or to California Service Center. If the applicant's I-485 paperwork is sent to CSC they'll mostly likely not have an interview (not guaranteed). If it's transferred to their local office, they will have an interview.

  8. Hiii

    +1 for December filers

Has anyone got RFE (Initial or Additional)?

Done with biometrics yesterday and replied to RFE yesterday, too (Tax Transcript was missing to support AOS package)

Now wondering - when the miracle of interview or issue of papers might happen.

Just received email notification that my AOS/EAD/AP was received and will be routed to the NBC (National Benefits Center) for processing...

    Joe

  9. In order to apply for her SSN, her I-94 visa must have 14+ days before expiring. So, you have 2 weeks from today to apply.

    Hey Mark,

Yes, and here in California, I could not get her a driver's liscense / I.D. card, because her I-94 needed at least 60 days validity left on it. We went to the DMV a few weeks after she got here and the I-94 had like 50 days left (out of the 3 months it is good for with a K1) and they shut us down- after waiting in line 2 hours to try to get the California I.D. card!

    Joe

  10. Sorry, misunderstood.

No they sent the incorrect check back attached to the RFE 797 notice, all we did was make copies of the RFE's & write out a new check for the correct amount.

I'm curious now, on my NOA1 docs I have no priority date, according to USCIS site, you can work out your application speed with this. Does anyone else have a date in their forms?

Gotcha- thanks much. I'm just waiting to hear something- check cashed, G-1145, RFE, packet returned! Nada since Fed Ex delivered it on Dec. 17th

    Thanks,

    Joe

  11. Has the money been taken from your bank account?

Yes, pressing 6 is how I got put through to a real person, they then put me through to someone else who confirmed I was all go, afte a 20 minute wait. They should have been able to check to see if you had made it into the system.

As of today, not cashed yet and no G-1145 confirmation- All I have is the fed ex delivery confirmation...

    Joe

  12. Joe,

Happy New Year to you also!! It's good to hear from you...been awhile.

Carol and I spent New Years Eve with Troy and Alexandra...had a great time.

I filed for AOS on Nov. 3rd, so we're waiting for AP and EAD.

Good luck with Valeria's AOS process.

Thanks Mark! Hope all is well with you and Carol. Tell Troy I said hola!

    Joe

  13. I also got mine today! January 25th at 11am, although I'm going to attempt a walk-in to get things moving a bit faster :)

For future reference on the automated phone system - the only way I got through to someone was to pretend I didn't have my reference number. I think once you say you're enquiring about a case, you press 6 to say you don't have a reference (maybe!). After that I got straight through.

This worked for me (pressing 6) to get a live person. But, they said can take up to 4 weeks for the mailroom to "process" the package. In the meantime, unless my check is cashed or my package rejected and sent back to me for some reason, I guess there isn"t much I can do for now- according to the USCIS person...

    Joe

  14. Hey Joe, thanks for the wishes. I wish the same for the two of you. I just want to comment that Ken had recommended that I read the entire thread when I started my process in June. It took me a long while and I refused to go to the end until I had read everything in between. One of the things that encouraged me was the struggle that you went through. Granted it was over by time I was reading it but I did not want to read the end without the middle parts. I salute you. I hope that all is well Have a verry Happy New Year.

    Robert

    Hey Robert,

Ha, I did the same thing- read Colombia Club part 1 from start to finish! Good luck on your upcoming interview in Bogota and the rest of the journey! As you know, this forum is a lifesaver!

    Joe
