have you been asked to show any papers any documents in atlanta...my interview will be on wednesday @ 1:25 ... do you think i have any chance to do same day oath...?
gyenigun, Yes I was ask to show some documents. If you bring the documents that apply to you in the interview letter, you should be fine.
My case was based on marriage, so I was asked to show proof of the union.
So I gave to the interviewer:bank statement with both our name, bank loan we got together, tax transcripts, health insurance, car insurance, etc
You interview is pretty late (1:25), i think the cut off is around noon. But, who knows, try to be there much earlier...because they come and call the names on the list you go before your schedule time. In my case for example, my schedule was at 8:45AM, I got there around 7:30. After all the security check I was in the waiting room at 7:45...at 7:50, the interviewer came out and called the first two names, they were not there... then he called my name, and he asked me if I want to do the interview now, I said yes...So I was in doing my interview almost 1 hour before my schedule time. I was all done and approved by 8:05.
So, go early and try....In the worse case, Atlanta will schedule your oath on the next business day.

USCIS just called me to let me know that my name check is cleared and my interview is going to be on 7/6. I have sent email this morning to the Southeast Regional director and wondering if my email triggers this update.
I sent email yesterday to the ombudsman officer who is working my case as well. Getting confused regard what trigger the interview. What ever, I got my interview and that what important.

I had the oath ceremony today, 177 new citizens from 47 countries.After the ceremony, We had to fill out an application for the new social security card and voter registration card . The whole process took 1h.
Finally, my journey is over:)

Hello everyone, It is my turn now to report a successful interview and same day oath yesterday!
Everything when every well and smoothly...
Though my interview was schedule for 8:45, I was in and out by 8:05 the whole thing took about 15 mins.
I was approved, and I did the afternoon oath.
He went through my application with the "yes" and "no", then he asked 6 questions, when I got them all right he stopped.
questions:
1-what is one promise you make when you become US citizen?
2-who is your governor?
3-where is the statue of the liberty?
4-First US president?
5- what are 2 US holidays?
6- Can't remember
He made me read: "what the sate has the most people?"
and write:" California has the most people"
Then, congratulated me and asked if i wanted same day oath, and gave me the result sheet.
I came back at 1PM for the oath ceremony.

We are back home now from getting Mian's citizenship. We were at the USCIS office at 8:00 a.m. and appointment was for 8:24 a.m. We went to the 2nd floor and signed in and told to go to the 3rd floor and was called by Officer Hardmon at 8:25 but another person came to her begging to fix his problem. She told Mian to sit and she would get to him later. She called him back at 9:10 for his interview and test. He passed the English and U.S. History questions and was recommended for citizenship and given an N-652 form. He was back outside by 9:27 and told to go back to the 2nd floor and someone would give us an oath notice. We sat from 9:27 until 1:38 p.m. before they gave him the oath notice. The ceremony was scheduled for 2 p.m. The ceremony represented 50 countries and 137 new US citizens were sworn in.
He only remembered the following questions that were asked to him.
1. What ocean is on the West Coast of the Untied States?
2. What is the "rule of law"?
3. What is the name of the national anthem?
4. There were 13 original states. Name three?
5. How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?
6. Could not remember?
Read this " Why do people want to vote"?
Write this "People do want to vote."

I have my interview Monday morning in Atlanta as well. I hope I get same day oath too.

Still waiting for my oath letter here. It has been a month since my interview, and the IO told me I'd receive the letter within a month. Does anyone know what number to call and what combination of keys to press to speak to a live person who knows what's going on?

I think calling the 800#, will be a good start. Also, you should try infopass, I find the people there to be of better help.

I took DoxATL's advice and the trick worked!
I just got off the phone with the 2ndlevel officer. She told me I am in queue for an interview, they're just waiting for an available date. She also said I would be receiving a yellow paper, if I haven't yet.
At least I know now, I'm getting there. Thanks very much for the advice, and for everybody's tips. I've been reading this forum and it's amazing to see how everybody just support each other.
So, for those who need some answers, get the phone, tell USCIS you never got a receipt # and they'll transfer your call to someone else who has some info. As DoxATL said, the 2nd level officer doesn't know what you're calling about, this time, just ask the person about your case status. They're also very polite.

I contacted these people before I was called in for the interview. I am just getting results from my inquiries as to why my initial interview was cancelled and why my file has not been sent to the NYC office.
The file is now in transit and should be there this week.

I tried calling again... three times... Each time the representatives refused to transfer me. They told me I would have to make an InfoPass.
What the @#$% is the 800 number there for then?
Hey jsnearline, here is a tip that works ALL THE TIME!!!!
When you call the 800#, then do 1-2-3
The first operator who picks your call will ask for your receipt #,
TIP: TELL HIM/HER that that's the reason you calling, you have never received your receipt!
The Key is your application has to be sent more than 30days.
They will automatically escallate your call to the 2nd level officer, who has access to more info. And don't be nervous, because the 2nd officer doesn't know what excuse you told the 1st one (there is no communication between them)
this trick has worked for me every single time, no question asked!

my receipt number would not work when i called them, and so i selected the option that my receipt was last. I explained to the guy my receipt number does not work online, he had no idea why, so transferred me to someone above him who asked me my entire life story to verify who i was, and then told me just that ma letter regarding my interview will be mailed soon and that's about it.

there are many cases like that, where the online status does not work once they sent your case to the local office.
So you should be receiving your interview letter any day.

maybe i should call them and see if they mailed anything to me... I know there is no order (although they claim so), but I and a couple others are approaching the 5-6th week and now that the timeline is filling out, I know it's not such a long wait.
lol... You right about the " no order" statement. I applied 3 before some people and they have already received their interview letter. And every time I call the 800#, they tell me everything is fine with my case, and I am still within their 1 year processing time nation wide...

As I exited the office I saw that all of the other people who were in that same waiting room made
P.S. Something tells me that the Immigration Officer was not being completely honest with me.
Hello nocturnabeat, I am sorry you feel so down.
But, you should not worry that much. It has been a common issue lately with people getting to their interview day while their name check is not completed.
Read this link, the worse case scenario is that by the end of June2009, 98% of name check will be cleared within 30 days:

Also after June 2009, even if your name is Osama **** , your name check will be done in 90 days. And since you applied months ago, you should be fine and cleared if you did nothing wrong.
