  1. Me and Wifey are about to file the I-485 packet for her AOS...we have a few questions...

We are sending the I-485, I-864 (with 3 recent years of tax returns, 3 check stubs, and employment letter), G-325A, and I-765...

Do we need to send the I-131 also? If so, what do we put in the box for "departure date" and "length of stay" i.e. how long she needs to be gone from the USA? She isn't planning on leaving anytime soon, but we are not sure if we need to file the 131 anyway.

Also, what are the total fees for all these? How much $ do i send and who do i make the money orders out to?

    Thanks.

hello! the I-131 is for emergency purposes between the time you filed the AOS until such time the green card has been received. you may want to indicate departure date and length of stay as "to be determined". if you are filing the I-131 with I-485, you will not pay any fee but if filed separately, it will be 305usd.

for instructions on the I-485, you may click on the link -- http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...000b92ca60aRCRD

    good luck!

  2. Hi LPR's and LPR Spouses, just wanna know to all who had their interview at the Embassy.. are you guys already booked for your plane ticket before your interview?.. My MIL told me buy plane ticket a day/a week before the interview.. what do you think?... Thanks =)

    goodluck to all of us

hello! i'd suggest book the ticket when you received your passport with the visa. in any case, you cannot buy a ticket without the US visa stamp on your passport.

  3. hi, question does anyone tried to move the place of their interview? just got my interview letter yesterday and its in reno nevada 6 hours away from my place... and one more when i sent my aos i only included my ds 3025 and my interview letter says i need to bring a completed medical examination(form I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope(unless already submitted) well i assumed since i handed my brown envelope that contains my medical record taken march of this year in my port of entry all i need is my vaccination supplement right? this is so stressful, hehe... do i need to take all my follow up shot and transcribed it to the I-693 or can i just asked a civil surgeon to transcribed the shot i got in my ds-3025? as shot here in us is very very expensive, and money is tighten as xmas is coming... anyone experienced this? pls enlighten me.

    thank you all...

hello! i did the same thing with my aos, sent only the ds3025. the civil surgeon we initially contacted in seattle said that i just have to go to the pharmacy and have the lacking vaccine administered. went to walgreens and had tdap shot which caused me around 65usd. eventually when i got my letter for interview, my husband and i decided i better have the ds3025 certified by a civil surgeon. surprisingly, the civil surgeon said i still lack another vaccine, which is the mmr. so the shot was another 95usd on top of the 70usd professional fee. makes you wonder what shots have been administered in st. luke's during our medical exam. i had 2 shots there. anyways, the doc certified that i have completed my vaccine and he put the document in a sealed envelope for uscis use only.

btw, you may want to check this link for the location of uscis office in the state of nevada https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of...or.statecode=NV

  4. hello guys, i just wanna know how is the eeling during interview and what common question do they ask??

hello! anticipating the interview with the consul at the US embassy will make you very nervous. haha! but just relax. it's not as bad as you might think. the staff are very pleasant and courteous. just make sure you have all the necessary paperworks and everything will be smooth sailing.

here is my personal experience during my interview in june 09 -- arrived at the US embassy in manila around 440am with my fiance. there were about 30 to 40 people already there. i suggest that you don't go there that early. you may arrive before 6am. the guard will ask people to line up around 6am depending on the time of the scheduled interview. before 630am, we were already inside the embassy. quite strict with the no cellphone or electronic gadget policy. bawal talaga ito.

before you get to talk to the consul, you will have to go through 3 queuing:

    (1) to get you queue number and submit your DS156 & 157 forms. if you paid your visa fee at BDO, the bank will provide you a validated 157 form and the bank receipt.

    (2) document submission -- birth cert, nbi/police clearance, cenomar, affidavit of support & related docs, DS156K.

    (3) finger printing

    ------

    (4) interview with the consul -- tip here: the questions you were asked during your document submission are the same questions the consul will ask you (sort of validation maybe). be consistent with your answers and know the documents you have submitted (i.e. emails, photos, chats) by heart. the consul will ask a test question so don't make up any answers if you are not sure.

    sample questions:

    - what did you do in singapore?

    - where did you meet your fiance?

    - when did you start to chat?

    - when did you first meet each other?

    - how many times have you met each other?

    - how did he propose to you?

the interview took less than 10 minutes. the consul was very nice and gracious. i would give it a 5. i have observed that other consul did not allow the fiance to go with the beneficiary inside the room. was lucky he allowed my fiance to come in with me.

    good luck and god bless

  5. When I flew my wife and anak on their first trip to the US PAL gave me a "first time immigrant" discount. Came out to about 20%.

Are airlines still giving such discounts.?

I remember I had to bug the travel agent as she'd said no way. Her supervisor came thru tho.

it is just marketing gimmick so better check rates online with orbitz, travelocity or directly with NWA/other airlines, whichever offers the lowest rates.

  6. Not sure how to buy plane tickets for my Filipina when the time comes.

Normally when I buy a ticket, I just print it out, they want to see the credit card at the airport, and I don't know if I can get her a credit card without a social security # and send it to her.

And if she goes to a travel agent, it might cost more, I can get a better deal on the internet

So what do I do, What do you do with your girl, my girl is really poor, she has no credit cards or anything

you may want to check orbitz, travelocity or directly from NWA/other airline, whichever offers the lowest rate for a one-way ticket. just send her the e-ticket together with the scanned image of your credit card used to purchase the ticket.

  7. Hello Vj members,

I will be flying to the USA soon and will be with my loving husband at last.

I still need to do a lot of readings on what to do next when I am already in the US.

But I would appreciate if you would post the things that a newly-arrived migrant must do right away once she arrives at the US. Kindly post also when to get those things done.

I think I have read some before but I already forgot about them as I have been busy with the matter at hand- that is getting the medical done, having the interview, packing and everything!

Thank you all for the help. Now, I will be with my husband at last! It is such a great feeling! I also thanked God for giving us all these favors.

I really do appreciate your help.

    Norvelyn

go on a road trip. it's the best way to see the country. enjoy!

  9. I am two months and one day pregnant now and I am really craving the "danguet fish" in the Philippines. Lots and lots of food cravings like turon, budbod (in visaya) I don't know the tagalog of it,orange na buko, palamig yong maraming kulay,halo-halo nang Ice castle, gulaman, piritong isda talagang danguet. ,I got a lot of foods going on inside my head and very frustrating it's because most of them are not here. :crying:

Any suggestions if they can send it to me?I looked at the asian stores already here in Indianapolis, but really nothing :( Anyone here tried receiving foods from the Philippines? Is it possible for them to send it to me? Just wondering if maybe someone had experienced the same thing. How did they send it,what do they used to do it?

    Thanks a lot..

congratulations! i don't know how to send food from the phils as i've not done it before. may i suggest you check out this website for pinoy food http://www.pilipinomart.com/addcart.asp?pr...;identifier=100. enjoy!

  10. Hi, my wife just filed her I-485 AOS based on her I-129F visa. We filed this, and I think they recieved it like November 2nd. I just checked the status on uscis website, and found that on November 24th, they transferred it to the California Service Center for processing & that they'll be sending me a letter explaining this action.

Just wondering...is this normal? Does this mean were not getting interviewed? We haven't even recieved a biometrics notice as of yet. Yeah I know, I should just wait on the letter but I'm just to curious. Hopefully its a good thing. Thanks. God bless

hi! someone' who has the same experience is going to reply to you later but i know you want peace of mind now. my friend in florida has the same situation as you. her case was transferred to calif. don't worry, this is normal. it will take about 3 weeks to a month before you receive the notice for biometrics.

  11. I sent my AOS package Nov 17th and I just found out i HAVE to send a certified copy of our marriage certificate!! i just sent a photocopy!! will this delay them in issuing my EAD?? :crying:

hello! i sent a certified copy of my marriage cert but on the uscis website is says "attach a copy of the fiance(e) petition approval notice, a copy of your marriage certificate, and your form I-94". i think you're good.

Are we missing anything? Thanks for any information.

    James

hello! have an exact copy of the documents/folder you send to file the K1 petition. it will be the same file that the consul will be looking at during the interview. good luck.

  13. My fiancee's interview is December 8th, and we know she can't take a cell phone or electronic device in. Our question is, can you take a handbag/pocketbook into the embassy for the interview?

    Thanks for any help,

    James

yes, she can bring her handbag/pocketbook/purse with her except any electronic gadgets (camera, handphone, etc.). good luck to your fiancee.

  14. Not sure if this has been brought up before but is their a list of questions people were asked while at the interview? This way i can drill them into my Fiance's head, I mean don't get me wrong we know eachother very well, but I would hate for her to get stuck on an obscure question. Maybe if we get a good list going we can have it stickied so others would be able to benefit from this too, there's never harm in being prepared!

hello! below is my personal experience during the interview. tell your fiancee to relax, be confident, have a good nite's sleep and have everything (exact duplicate of what you submitted to the NVC) with her.

interview 1 june 09 -- arrived at the US embassy in manila around 440am with my fiance. there were about 30 to 40 people already there. i suggest that you don't go there that early. you may arrive before 6am. the guard will ask people to line up around 6am depending on the time of the scheduled interview. before 630am, we were already inside the embassy. quite strict with the no cellphone or electronic gadget policy.

  15. Ok guys I believe our interview will be here soon, as the NVC sent our packet out to embassy. Im trying to plan for it now. I really would like to go there to help her with interview, packing, and morale support. The trouble is the money will be substantial (I have around a 40k /year job). I would have to buy 1 ticket in advance from Las Vegas around $1000, then buy 2 round-trip tickets for her and myself to Manilla $300 (we need to return to her home to pack). Then the worst part is buying two tickets to Las Vegas with very little advance notice $2000-3000? Probably another $1000-1500 in miscellanious expences. Thats a range of $4300-5800. I have been saving up and should be very close to 6k by january, but do you guys think it would be better to let her do it on her own and save the surplus money for our new life? I know she is a very smart, capable and strong woman. Are relationship is definetly bonafide so we should have no trouble passing (God willing). I would love to be there with her through this whole process especially the flight over here to a new country where she will be totally lost and scared. But at the same time we will definately need money when she gets here. She says she wants to do it on her own, but I know she would feel better with me there, and maybe it would help us pass all the more? I know this isn't easy to answer but I value your opinions so thanks for helping me descide!

my opinion: let her do it on her own. as you said she is smart. if you're documents are all intact and complete, i.e. you have substantial evidence of your existing relationship and no problem with the income/affidavit of support, she'll get approved. i've seen couples in the US embassy in manila whose fiances were not allowed in the room by the consul during the interview (it is the consul's discretion to let the fiance in or not). better save the money. you'll need to pay another 1040usd for her AOS. more expenses coming your way -- new set of clothes and shoes (as it is very cold for us who are from the tropics), your wedding, etc.

just meet her at the airport when she arrives and call her before the interview. just a tip for your fiancee during the interview: do not volunteer any information, just answer straight to the point and be alert of trick question. good luck!

  16. hey guys anyone have trouble with getting a NBI clearnce from taiwain?

My fiance's sister couldn't get it. here is what they told her when she went to pick up.

grace :because i have different sign in my old passport

    grace : different permanship hun

grace : to my new passport

so what can we do? Is there a service we can use to help us?? Doesn't look like she wil be with me for xmas and maybe not till next year :-((

    HELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP this soooo suckkkkksssss.

I tried doing a search but nothing came up on the search. HELP ASAP

hello! do you mean a police clearance from taiwan? and whose it for? is it for your fiancee? i have no experience with obtaining a police clearance in taiwan but singapore. maybe this can help her out. if the service is available online, she can request it online. if not, she may want to go to the taiwan embassy in manila to check how she can apply for one.

  17. My sweet little Claudeth is a wonderful, giving woman but is also the most irresponsible person I have ever met in my life. I never seen anyone melt a bar of soap before but she does it. She can plug up the shower drain quickly and just loves to take 30 or 45 minute showers twice a day. She leaves the lights on constantly and the refrigator open all the time. She will fill her plate full of food and eat about 1/4 of it and the rest goes in the trash.

I am totally at my wits end. I have been dealing with this for 4 1/2 years but have made no progress in teaching her conservation. I love her very much and would never dream of getting rid of her but have been thinking of sending her to the Philippines for a visit.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have heard comments off and on but nothing consistant with what my little consumer does.

maybe it's time to cut her allowance down or give her a tight household budget or bring her to the poor community in your area so she will have exposure to the other life in the US. my husband calls me "kuripot" for trying to save or recycle almost anything.

  18. My sweetie heard from her friend who recently got visa approval, that "most of the girls who's fiance was present for the interview were not approved". The apparent reasoning is that the girls were relying too much on their fiances or something. I had her clarify that the friend did not mean 'most of the rejected had their fiance present' but rather 'most with their fiance present were rejected'.

Is this true in anyone else's experience? I have intended to be there with her during the interview, specifically to explain any questions about my financial situation which is not typical. If it's a better idea for me not to be in the interview, I'll just write a letter on my business letterhead trying to explain what they might need to know or have clarified.

Maybe I'll just wait in the lobby, and in the letter include "If there are any uncertainties about the business and finance situation, I am waiting in the lobby and can answer any questions" heheheh.

hello! my fiance was there with me during my interview at the US embassy in manila last june 1 and we did not have any problem with that. there were, however, 2 couples ahead of us whose fiances were not allowed inside the room with the consul. when i asked, the embassy staff explained that it was the consul's discretion to let the fiance inside the room with the beneficiary during the interview. good luck and pray!

  19. hello! am posting below my experience during the medical exam at st. luke's and the interview. had the interview a week after the medical exam. hope this can give you an insight of what to expect. good luck.

arrived at st. luke's extension clinic around 430am. around 50 people were already queuing. around 6am, the guard opened the clinic and distributed forms and Q numbers. i was 20 on the queue. around 7am, the US reception opened and people were asked to line up by 10s for the digital photo taking. you will need to bring to the clinic your notification from the embassy (have this photo copied) and 3 2x2 inch photos. only 1 will be submitted on the 1st day of the exam and the other 2 copies will be collected from you together with your passport when they release your chest x-ray (which by the way is in CD).

others were able to get their medical exam results the following day. for me, i got the result after 2 days. if everything's fine with your medical exam, you will be given your vaccines. you have the option to have it administered at st. luke's or upon your arrival in the US. since no additional cost will be charged if you have it done here, go for it na. sayang din.

during the physical exam, you will be asked about your medical history (see sample form), identify your chicken pox scar if you've had it already and any vaccine scar that you have on your arm (can't remember what it was for). for ladies, a breast exam including hemorrhoids will also be done. the doc will also ask you about any scar that is on your body.

be ready for a long wait. you may want to bring water and snack (yung madaling kainin) since you will not be able to go out in between your tests. i finished with the medical exam at 11am. the second day was not so bad but i had to wait 3.5hours at the releasing section before i got my x-ray cd.

interview 1 june 09 -- arrived at the US embassy in manila around 440am with my fiance. there were about 30 to 40 people already there. i suggest that you don't go there that early. you may arrive before 6am. the guard will ask people to line up around 6am depending on the time of the scheduled interview. before 630am, we were already inside the embassy. quite strict with the no cellphone or electronic gadget policy. bawal talaga ito.

  20. Hi,

I just received my interview notice today and it has the checklist written on it. I was wondering about the medical examination (form I 693 and vaccinaion supplement in a sealed envelope.. it says here (unless already submitted) if I am not mistaken, the sealed envelope was given to the port of entry and when I submitted my AOS, i gave them the vaccination records, do I have to go get the I 693? I remember seeing here in VJ that the vaccination records would suffice.

Also, it is asking for the affidavit of support. (unless already submitted) I dont have a copy of the one I sent out so I was wondering do we have to prepare one still? Please give me advice. Thanks.

hello! if you are K1 visa and had your medical exam in st. luke's, you don't have to go through another medical exam in the US "as long as your Form I-485 (application to register permanent resident or adjust status) is filed within 1 year of your overseas medical exam . . . " (see link for instructions on I-693 http://www.uscis.gov/USCIS/New%20Structure...I-693instr.pdf).

i would suggest that you have a civil surgeon validate your DS3025 (vaccination documentation worksheet) from st. luke's prior to the interview. the doctor will go over the document and issue you part 2 medical examination of the I-693, which will be handed to you in a sealed envelope with the instruction "do not open: for uscis use only".

i went to the civil surgeon last monday and had my DS3025 validated by the civil surgeon. fee is 70usd. surprisingly, i was told that i need a vaccine for mmr. i already had 2 vaccines administered at st. luke's (and if i remember it right, one was for the mmr and the instruction to me at st. luke's was to have the tdap administered here as i was pressed for time). i also had a tdap administered at walgreens in august. anyways, i just told the doc to give me the mmr so i can be done with this requirement. it was 95usd. very confusing.

i also suggest that you have a copy of all the documents you have submitted with the I-485 during your interview.

    good luck.

p.s. i still have the cd of my x-ray. i asked the civil surgeon about it and he said to hand it over to the uscis when they ask for it.

  21. HI EVERYBODY, I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING THE MEDICAL AT ST. LUKES, MY FIANCEE HAD A CHEST X RAY DONE LAST MONTH BACK IN HER HOME TOWN, JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT HER LUNGS WERE FINE AND THAT THERE WERE NO SUSPICIOUS MARKS ON IT, HER XRAY WAS FINE, IT WAS CLEAR WITH NO SCARS OR ANYTHING, MY QUESTION IS, MY FIANCEE WILL HAVE HER MEDICAL AT ST LUKES NEXT WEEK, WOULD IT BE ADVISABLE FOR HER TO TAKE THIS X RAY FILM WITH HER TO ST LUKES? WILL ST LUKES HONOR THIS XRAY FILM? WHAT DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND?, OR IS IT JUST BETTER NO TO MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THIS X RAY THAT SHE HAD DONE LAST MONTH AND LET ST LUKES DO THEIR OWN EXAMS?
