  1. Thank you!

My husband and I are applying for the CR-1 visa. Will he automatically be granted permission to work once he crosses the border, or does he have to wait for something to come in the mail? If he does have to wait, how long does it usually take to get?

a greencard is permission to work... he gets it immediately upon entry with a CR1 vsia

  2. The CR Embassy tries to be as accomodating as possible. I believe that date is assigned by NVC, so you should be able to contact the Embassy directly and get it moved up. Usually you can get an interview within 2-3 weeks in CR. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

BTW- My petitions got touches two days in a row, so I'm hoping our turn is coming soon!

I called the Embassy this morning and they said that my case still hasn't made it there yet. I asked if it is possible to move our interview date up and the woman told me that they do put the interview at a sooner date in various cases! I am going to call back next week to see if my case has made it to the embassy, and hopefully they will be willing to do so!

CONGRATS on the touches by the way! I am sure it will be out in no time!!

  3. On the NVC website it says that for the interview my husband must request a criminal record report from the US embassy in Costa Rica. Does the criminal record report that I send in with the DS-230 also need to be requested from the US Embassy, or is a criminal record report authenticated by the Costa Rican government enough??

  4. I am now at the point where I need to send in the DS-230. I need to send with the DS-230, my husband's birth certificate, criminal record report, our marriage certificate, his passport photos, translations of all documents, photocopies of all documents, and a copy of both biographic passport pages, right? Will the NVC forward all of our documents to the consulate before our interview, or do we need to get copies of all of the documents we send to the NVC??

  5. My husband's case will be processed in Costa Rica, but we are putting everything together right now for the DS-230 and I am so confused on what we need to do for his criminal record report. We got his criminal record report from Los Tribunales and then took it to be translated. Then we went to La Casa Amarilla to get it authenticated and they put a bunch of stamps on it... someone told us that we have to take it to the consulate now, and we don't know if they meant the Consulate of Costa Rica or of the US??? Do we really have to take it there, or is it ready to be sent to the NVC?? I would appreciate ANY help on this because we are going to be in San Jose tomorrow in order to finish up everything!!!

  6. I recently received a notice that my husband's (the beneficiary's) choice of agent was accepted by the NVC. After receiving the notice, I logged in online and paid the IV bill. Yesterday, I logged back in and the IV Bill read "paid." Now that that step of the process is finished, what should I be expecting next? I have no idea what the following steps in the visa process are. I know my husband will have his interview in Costa Rica, so it that what comes next? The interview?? And when do I send the DS-230?? I would appreciate any help!

  7. Do you live in same household as step father? If not the Joint sponsor files an I-864.

    I-864 8 Check the box.

    I-864 9 You don't check the box.

Yes, we live in the same household. Does that change what I put on #8? Is mine a case with 2 joint sponsors?

NO, just check the box, you are primary sponsor, and are adding income of a household member to get up to the required amount to sponsor an immigrant. I-864A is not a JOINT SPONSOR, I-864A is additional support by a household member.

Thank you SO much for all of your help!

  8. I am filling out the I-864 (Affidavit of Support) and I am getting held up on Part 3. Questions 8 and 9.

My step father is going to file an I-864A for joint support. Does that mean that I would put "no" on question 8?

Then, should I just put "none" on question 9 since my husband is the only person immigrating (the principle immigrant)?
