  1. Although I was nervous as well, you really don't need to be. Canada is one of the easier countries to interview as we're a low-fraud country and only get asked a couple questions. You're gonna spend more time waiting than being asked questions ;)

Got my interview next week on Friday 10am, some people go very early for their appointments and seems like a first come first serve basis but others have said some of the guards have told them to come back closer to the appointment time......any advice....

    thanks in advance....

  2. Like ralyse said, no cellphones. You're not allowed ANY electronics inside. And trust me, if you're there at 6:30am (as suggested) you won't be waiting long. I was only able to sit down once I believe and only for a few moments. During that time, I was just looking around me, taking it all in. And the view! I wish I could have taken that in as the consulate is on the 19th floor! But yes, it's not very long, as long as you're there early!! And it's just basic questions. I only got asked two: where does my husband live and how did we meet. That was it. You can read my full review if you click on my timeline and scroll to the bottom. It's also posted on my blog :)

Thanks for sharing your blog and i also read the reviews.I don't even have the interview yet and am feeling a bit nervous about it but knowing how it goes helps ease it a bit.... ;)

  3. Thank you again, we followed your guide and it was soooo helpful that's why i thought i would ask you ;)Hope i get a interview date in next few weeks...fingers crossed:)

I have a few questions about the actual interview.....

Can you bring cellphones with you in case their is a long wait?...some to do...i will be a lil nervous..lol.... what floor is it on?

I hear it is about 10 minutes long or so, first wicket is where you hand your paperwork in and the second wicket is where you get your approval and so on and they ask a few basic routine questions?

  4. I followed the one here (that I actually had a link to in the wiki, in the section about the IV cover letter): http://www.visajourn...30_Cover_Letter I changed some things of course. And if you want to see my EXACT cover letter (I took out personal information of course), I uploaded it to Google Docs here: https://docs.google....8/edit?hl=en_US What is highlighted is what should be changed as it's your personal info. You'll notice it's slightly different than the sample one as I was doing EP plus the DS-260, so there's a lot that had to be changed. So perhaps you should use my already edited one and plug in your info and then you don't have to spend the time figuring out what to change.

thanks again for the help...a little off topic.....we have a Case Complete from NVC for our CR-1 as of Oct 6th.....woohoooo

NVC says they only book interviews for the CR-1 on the 2nd week of the month, is this true? we were told we could not get a interview for Montreal for November and check back in the 2nd week of November to see if we had a interview date assigned.

at this rate it looks like it could be December or January :(

  5. Yup, you need 2 passport-style pictures. Just scan 'em. I wrote a wiki that's linked in my signature. In the scanning section, I wrote how I scanned the two pictures.

First off, thank you very much for the wiki page as we have been using it like a official guide through the process!!!!!

You mention when putting the package together ....putting the document cover sheet first and then "Have the cover letter (signed) after that", is their specific cover "letter" template or specific cover letter that i should be using...I am only aware of the cover sheet available at the payment portal when you click on the IV bill.

I have probably over looked this but i thought i would ask, thnx in advance....

  6. Yes, you're supposed to email the supporting documents for the IV package to NVC, just like you emailed the AOS package.

Only K-1 visa applicants send packet 3 to the consulate/embassy. Do not confuse these two very different processes. IR-1/CR-1 applicants send packages to NVC, whereas K-1 send to the consulate/embassy.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

It says to "submit photographs" do i make scans of passport photos and send those?

  7. Hi Everyone

In the process of moving to the USA to be with my wife and am going through the CR-1 process and could use a little help.

We have done the opt-in for electronic processing and email confirmation, DS-261,AOS supporting documents emailed and fee's Paid ,Paid IV Application fee's and completed the DS-260.

Were i am confused is after this.... according to the wiki we have to send a PDF of supporting documents.....I thought we sent supporting documents to the Montreal consulate in packet 3 , sounds like we basically send the packet 3 documents via email to the NVC is this correct?

Here is what the ds-260 confirmation says:

    All applicants must:

    1. Obtain and submit required supporting civil documents.

    2. Obtain and submit photographs that meet the Department of State’s visa requirements.

    3. Review the information specific to U.S. Embassy/Consulate General where your visa interview will occur.

  8. My girlfriend is in the U.S and we are talking about getting married and not sure which would be the quickest way or best way for us to be together via visa.I have read allot of information via the forums and i think i have a good idea on what it takes but not sure which visa type suits our situation best and am not sure if i may have gotten my wires crossed after all the reading i have done...lol.......

I currently am in Canada and was off work with a disability but will be attending college in Canada for the next year in order to get a new career for when i am settled in the U.S. .Unfortunately i will not be able to show means of support cause i was on disability pension and their for have decided that to be together the best way will be via marriage. My Girlfriend or soon to be wife has a good job and makes problay 3/4x the poverty rule so that would not come in affect.

Now am wondering which option would be best for us....not sure if i am correct on these please bear with me as am trying to figure this all out.

K1- Would mean we could hold off marriage for a bit.

Need to provide employment records and work history (due to my years on diasabilty pension, may not be a option)

    longer process.

K3- Wife can be sponsor and no need to provide employment records or work or financial history.

    Faster application process.

Would have to wait for SSN and update visa status before being able to work and is a little more costly of process.

-IR-1 / CR-1 - Wife can be sponsor and no need to provide employment records or work or financial history.

Seems it may take a little longer for approval.

You can move and start work right away once accepted.

  9. Looking for information, tried search forums but seems to lack of info regarding the information I need. Me and girlfriend would like to get married I am from Canada and would like to move with her but unfortunately I have had some health issues and am concerned would affect me for getting for a visa.

I am presently on medical disability in Canada for anxiety issues and has been for 3 years and obviously don’t have a lot of income because of that or means of support although do plan to work when I am in the U.S..My fiance problay makes are 50k so poverty rule not a problem.

We are wondering how my work history/disability and medical condition may affect my visa application????????????

Not sure if getting married first or waiting to find out all information before hand would be best.

Any information or personal experience or knowledge regarding this would be appreciated. Thank you.
