  1. Of course you can and should include your son's birth certificate - like everyone else has said, it is good proof of an ongoing relationship. It does not matter when you where married compared to when your child was born. I'm adjusting from F1 visa and was also resently married although we have a child together. I included her birth certificate and so far , don't jinx me, every thing has gone fine in our process.

Try and include some other things with your names on it if you can but I wouldn't worry too much. I'm no expert, but I bet you'll be fine. I think we all just stress too much over how much is enough evidence and if they wil over analyze it like we do. You should have enough evidence, if anything in fotos, cards etc. that I'm sure you accumulated over the years. By the time of the interview, I think that's when they want to see all that. I think....

  2. Eeeeww, brussels are SO gross! I don't know why they even sell them at the stores, yuck!

But yeah, regular bean sprouts, I don't really care which kind, are good when you mix in with something - like in Chinese food.

On the Medicaid thing, I agree with Reba - why are we paying for this when we can't even "enjoy" it for another 10 years or so. I'm not so sure it's all that much fun to be on Medicaid though, from what I understand it can be really difficult to get a doctor to take you in with that kind of insurance.

And bout not having insurance; I guess it could be done negotiation with hospitals and doctors but it depends on whats wrong with you if you can really afford the bill afterward. You can go broke having insurance, so I wouldn't pretend like it's easy for someone to do with out insurance. By the way, when you are on insurance, you can still negotiate your bill.

  3. As things are now in the USA you are basically paying for health care no matter what anyway - unless you are too poor to afford it. You could pay a "fair" price through your taxes and be sure everyone is covered in some fashion or you can keep on paying through private insurance as you do now and be charged whatever the insurance company feels like.

The problem with paying the private insurance company is that they can charge you what they feel like...and then when it comes down to paying the bill, they'll most likely try and get out of it until they realize you are not the pushover they had hoped for. You are out of money either way, but you could possibly get a better deal if there was some sort of universal health care. At least you would have less hassle and one less thing to worry about if you ever lose your job.

  4. I like universal health care but I really don't think it is the solution for the USA. It just goes against everything about America. Having said that, I would much rather see my tax money go towards some sort of health care than towards war - what a waste! I would like to see the government do something, even if it means raising our taxes a little bit (no, I don't no how much, but not too much, ok?) and maybe figure something out to control the cost in general.

I'm sure hospitals take loses from all the uninsured who receive treatment and I just read an article the other day that many doctors take a loss of giving shots but something has to be done about the cost. In the end, I think we would end up with more productive people who do not suddenly have to receive social security because they had some minor illness that was never treated and has now become so bad they ca no longer work. That costs tax payers money too. if I'm gonna pay I would rather pay to help you stay at work than pay for you to sit on your yeah in pain. Also, so many kids are uninsured...did any one hear about the kid a while back that died because the infection in his tooth got so bad it went to his brain? Obviously, things have to change, this is not a 3rd world country.

  5. They forfeited they rights when they took the right away from innocent victims to live and therefore their families have no rights to their bodies either. Sucks to be them I guess...

I don't care what they do with their bodies, but it makes sense that India does not want to be associated with this kind of mentality. Send them to one of the more pro-terrorist countries who would LOVE to send them to hell...or heaven if there is such a place for these kind of retards.

Feeding them to crocodiles seem like a plausible idea...better yet, pigs!

  6. I really like the idea of adopting an older person - I never thought about that. I'll have a look around here and see if we have something like that in my area. Otherwise, well try and pick a kid.

I don't always adopt a kid for the holidays, it just depends - I donate a lot of clothes and toys during the year so I don't worry too much about it.

We do however, always donate food to the food banks and the Salvation Army bell ringers always get change through out the season. Last nigh, the guy outside Walmart was playing a drum from some country (I forgot what he said), it looked like a big bowl and it sounded really pretty. They make it feel so Christmasssy!

  7. No, I wouldn't call it the norm over here but I see it here just as I see it in other countries. I would actually say the parenting style over here can be very strict. But of course, I'm from a Scandinavian country..maybe that's why. LOL

FYI, I do not allow my child to run around like that. I don't consider the USA safe enough for things like that. Stories like Maddie McCan are certainly fresh in my mind even though it seems like a slightly different scenario; she was not just running wild while no one was looking. But over here...no way, people are crazy, I don't trust them.

I'm glad to hear you complained, I certainly would have. The reaction of the staff seemed typical American to me though.

  8. Hi everyone, I'm just updating the list, it seems like I was kicked off after my last update. Ifeveryone uses the last updated list when posting their update, then everyone's time line should be up-to date. Not trying to sound prissy about it, just trying to make it easier for everyone to track the process.

Sorry, I can't get it to align right.

  9. If the chocolate is good why complain?

That's a really sweet idea though, I don't see how it could hurt anyone what's he's doing. Maybe the haters just don't like chocolate - those heathens!

It really sounds a little like when people are not allowed to call Christmas trees for, well, Christmas trees. It should instead be holiday tree?

  10. By News Channel 3

Two people have died after a shooting inside the Toys-R-Us in Palm Desert Friday morning, Riverside County Sheriff's Department confirmed.

The shooting happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the store located at 72314 Highway 111.

The identities of those killed have not been released yet. No word if a gunman has been captured.

Several people have been arrested including a teenager who was held inside the store. News Channel 3 cameras captured at least two arrests outside the store including a woman who was heard screaming and banging on a Sheriff's cruiser.

Deputies told News Channel 3 that some shoppers inside were evacuated while others were kept in the store shortly after the shooting as deputies swept the store for suspects.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department as well as officers from the Cathedral City and Indio police departments are on scene.

The shooting comes on the morning of Black Friday, one of the year's busiest shopping days.

News Channel 3 has a crew on the scene and we'll bring you live updates on the air and online at KESQ.com.

  11. I could be wrong, but from what I understand it does not matter when you apply for the job, what matters is what dates you EAD say. If it is expired you are not allowed to accept that position and if you are already working, you are supposed to quit/take vacation until you new EAD is approved (and possibly in you mailbox/hand)

You work permit doesn't have anything to do with your I-485 unless you get a RFE from what I can understand, that will delay that too. You have to wait for your I-765 to go through, not just you I-485.

I wouldn't suggest you work on an expired EAD - the penalty can be quite high from what I understand.

  12. It's not that they have everything paid for as such, it's that you cannot deny service to a pregnant woman in a USA hospital. After the bay is borne and a bill has to be sent, who do they send it to? An illegal immigrant most likely does not have insurance and they probably don't give you their real address and since there is not a SS #, the hospital can't even report it to the credit bureau who can then sue the non-paying customer for what is due.

In the end the taxpayers and those who donate to hospitals foot the bill...it's not fair but that seems to be the rights illegal immigrants have in the US of A!!!

In my opinion they should deliver the baby, make sure everyone is healthy and then ship them home. But that doesn't seem to be a very popular opinion.

  13. I read that this morning - how very sad. You know those Walmart employee's don't earn that much...especially not to die for. Something about a pregnant woman in the crowd and some other people got knocked down too.

I wonder if the people who helped push down the door feel at least a little guilty over acting that way over some discounted items. I still don't understand the whole excitement over Black Friday. I see some good deals but I guess I just can't be bothered to stand in line that early and fight with people over items. I usually stroll in after nine and if the item is still there, I buy it, if not, oh well. This year I had to send my husband and sister-in law to get some toys that were half off, but they didn't get there until 9:30 and they got what we were looking for.

Why so violent people, it's just stuff. Like someone else said; consumerism at it's best I guess.

  14. Wow SterlingGirl, that sounds like a real pain! And it kinda made me laugh....sorry!

I kept my last name after I got married. I love my last name and we have a coats of arms - apparently we're related to a knight.

Really though, I just don't see the point, it's such a hassle with everything needed to be changed and what about my signature? And I love my family and I live so far away from them, I just feel like I would completely disown them if I did that. That sounds really lame but it's true though...

I did ask my husband to change his name though. I'm glad to say he is considering it...no pressure from my side though.

  15. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking but if you are asking whether a non-US citizen can apply, then no. They are worried in general about all imigrants in the USA regardless of what visa is allowing you to live here (GC and non-GC holders). The applicant has not paid taxes for very long if at all so they don't really want them to receive benefits they have no yet earned. Hence, the need for a sponsor.

    Is that what you meant?

  16. It seems a little dumb really to reply to this since we all obviously have different definitions of what is fraud.

Lucky for me, immigrations sides with me; if they considered it fraud to adjust from F1 then it would not be an option.

And just to clarify, when I entered this summer I had no particular intentions of marrying and staying; we were at that point seriously discussing moving back to my country but I was offered a job over here I really wanted, so we went ahead and adjusted status. It would make no sense to leave and go the long route when we already have a life and a child together, especially when there is the option which is also available for F1 students, to adjust status. It is not considered fraud unless you apply for the visa with the intentions of marrying - but why would you do that when there are visitor visas if that was your intentions.

Also, no the migration officer did not specify which papers I should fill out, I honestly don't think he would know the exact forms if he was asked. He did not, however, suggest that I travel home. I do not remember the exact wording, but the conversation we had made us realize I could adjust status from within, something I was not aware of at the time. We had always just planned on marrying in Denmark and apply from there to keep our little family together in case we decided to come back to the USA.

You don't have to agree, I have noticed a lot of people who seem a little miffed by the whole AOS status when they waited abroad. I'm sorry for you if that is what you had to go though, but that does not make all students AOS's fraudulent. It is an option that is available for students regardless of original intentions of going home when your studies were over.

My point all along when I started to reply was that migrations are people with families of their own - they are not always cold and heartless as some think and they do not attempt to break up families just because you are on a certain visa. They could apparently have denied me entry several times since I obviously had ties to the USA and instead in airports I was always asked to enter through the line for American citizens on my F1 visa when I traveled with my then boyfriend and child.

But I guess the definition of what fraud is can be pretty broad.

To the OP I hope you figure things out, obviously I don't think you will be committing fraud, but you never know what an immigration officer might think I guess.

  17. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Yeah...I got my biometrics letter just Wednesday. I will be fingerprinted on Dec. 8th, at 8am - how very early! We'll have to go the day before, I'm not driving at 4 in the morning to be there on time.

hmm, it's all messed up . Was there something about a certain font?

  18. I usually only discuss money with family and close friends in which case I'm very open and so are they. We don't discuss it to brag or really advise each other as we all are in very different fields, I guess we just talk about more out of curiosity than anything. We're a nosy bunch I guess!!!

I wouldn't want to discuss it with strangers though, not so much because its tacky, unless they are bragging, but I just don;t see why they need to know.

I do think it's a little drastic to fire people over discussing salaries, although I can see why the companies don't want you to - it costs them money when half their employees find out they are getting ripped off! In the US though, it's not all about the salary and it can't always be compared. I might make a little less than someone with equal qualifications, but maybe I negotiated myself to more flextime or better benefits. You never really know over here.

But obviously its a personal thing and often cultural too it seems.

  19. Oh, that is so funny!!! I'm sorry, I'm not really trying to laugh at you but I just imagined a baby sorta falling out...how great that would be though!

I had a planned c-section and although I have not had any kids since then, from what I understand, it's not supposed to open up on it's own..I guess anything is possible but it's not supposed to, that would be really unlucky. I think if you try and have a baby again in the near future there's a higher risk of a rapture and they will most likely recommend another c-section but I would talk to my OBG if I were you. They can explain everything a lot better and have actual facts.

My sister-in-law had a emergency c-section and she had hoped to have her 2nd. baby naturally but the doctors decided that it was safer for her to have the 2nd one by c-section even though it had been almost 5 years since her first one. I'm guessing it all really depends on the situation.

    I'm sorry about your loss.

  20. Justashooter, life in the USA is NOT cheaper for me and my quality of life is a lot lower over here. I would be making a lot more if I lived in Denmark and I would still be working less hours with 6 weeks guaranteed holiday.Yes, things would be more expensive but after paying for insurance, medical bills, daycare, and education over here, my disposable income over here is even less than it would being "taxed to death" in Denmark. Daycare would be cheap, education would be free and although they ould technically be paid for trhough taxes, I would still be able to afford the same things if not more living in Denmark.

Really though, things aren't that cheap over here anymore and wages don't seem to be following suit. I pay the more for clothes and furniture and almost the same for groceries in the USA than I do in Denmark. Doesn't seem like such a good deal when my wages are so much lower....and I still have to buy my own insurance.

But maybe if you come from a very poor country the USA might seem like a relief....for many of us, I doubt we dreamt about living in the USA, it just sorta happened when we met our significant others. It's not a bad country, it's just not as great as some American's seem to think. It's really all about preference but at least I'm not under the impression that the Danish way of life is the answer to everything, I'm fully aware not every one wants to live that way.

  21. Well said! I agree completely and do not understand why on earth would you think European's have less rights than Americans?

I love living in the USA but I will tell you my American husband and I both have less rights here than we would if we lived in my country. And although I obviously really like the USA, otherwise I would not have moved here, I can promise you, no one I know back home envy me. They like to visit the USA and come often to visit but they would absolutely HATE living here. We have two good American friends who have both moved to Denmark with their Danish spouses and are appalled that we have chosen to stay in the USA and raise our child. They used to think America was the world too until they ventured abroad and realized there are better/different options out there.

Enlighten yourself a little instead, you are the reason so many foreigners dislike Americans.

You have a wonderful, lovely country with many great people but you are not any better than the rest of us.
