in our case, our check already got cashed in but no sign of NOA1 yet. i did learn through some posts here in VJ to look for the case number at the back of the check and voila... there it was! i wonder though, since we hired a lawyer (of course, now I know we never should have) whether our NOA1 will be mailed to our lawyer or to us.. hmmm..

maybe u did get lucky and they didnt let u pay

"I agree to them esp to russelmarie,,samething happened to me when we used lawyer during our application...but once i got the letter from USEM,,the lawyer we hired,,its USELESS...!!!! sana nga alam ko na itong VJ b4 the application so that way we didnt hired that useless lawyer..kasi here in VJ they will help,give u lots of info and guidelines esp advice, u can do it w/out using lawyer unless u dont have heavy case or issue..

If any of you are looking for a K1 or K3 visa attorney to help you with any forms etc, do not use the lawyer Calvin Knickerbocker of Sagaria law. I hired him as my visa lawyer and payed him $500, and he never completed my visa I had to do it myself. So he took $500 for nothing and wont pay me even part of that money back.

OMG!!! I nearly fainted when I saw this thread. If he is the same Calvin Knickerbocker from Oregon then he IS the lawyer my fiance hired for our K1 visa. We have filed, I believe, last month September '08 so we are just in the first stage of the process. What should we do?!? :

What stage are you at? He is worthless and will do nothing but take your money and delay your case. Have you paid him in full? I am sorry you hired him.

My fiance decided to hire a lawyer to avoid mess ups that we thought may cause delays and that was long before I learned about VJ website. I told the lawyer I am starting a timeline journal yesterday and asked for some details and he said he sent our papers to California Service Center and that it was sent last September 22. So, for now I guess we are 10 days into waiting for NOA1. Knickerbocker has been prompt answering my inquiries so far. He has already been paid full for his services and so we are just hoping for the best for now.

It helps that I am learning a LOT about the K1 visa process through this website so that we cannot just totally rely on him. Thanks VJ and more power!

p.s. fiance said his cheque has been encashed. we are keeping our fingers crossed.
