Congratulations!! You said you were moving, did you get the card forwarded to your new address??

Please confirm, I just want to know for sure if USPS forwards USCIS mails.

We got the card the very last day before mail forwarding kicked in. However, the envelope did say "Return Service Requested" as it was a standard USPS priority mail envelope exactly like this one (including contents):

So....that leaves me confused as I was under the impression that they were going to remove that "Return Service Requested" requirement. That said, if you have filed a forwarding address form with the local post office, they may forward it - as they want a valid address. I cannot guarantee they though. We'll be doing the online AR-11 with USCIS this weekend.

  2. do you guys seeing ur case status updated when you check online uscis website ? when i check it shows initial review

My NOA date is 11/28/2011 i did not recieve any RFE something but still waiting i see there are some december filers already got their approvals so how is that happening while we november filers are still waiting?

Ours was approved on Sep 13 according to the letter we got - it just updated on the USCIS website late last night (Sep 19) (I know cause the text messages woke me up)

  3. Hi All,

No news for me today. I dont know why they taking so much time, we have to move next month. I am getting anxious

Believe me - I understand your anxiousness. We are moving this weekend and only got our approval on Monday. Cutting it WAY too close.

The good news is that I found out the USCIS mail will be forwarded by USPS and not returned, so even with the green card now "in the mail", we should be able to get it in short order at the new address if it doesn't come by Saturday.

My recommendation would be to would wait until the very day you move to forward your mail with USPS (you can do it online with them as well), and make sure you file your AR-11 change of address with USCIS within 10 days AFTER moving (also online).

  4. Spoke too soon. Got home today and got our answer - APPROVED!!! Decision date was 9/13. Hopefully others waiting on RFEs like us will hear very very soon.

FWIW, I checked our status on the USCIS website, and it still says "Initial Review". so clearly this is not a good indicator of approval or not - even after the fact. We are just glad to be done for now.

For those still waiting, hang in there. We sent our RFE back a week after we got it and it took 3-1/2 weeks.

  5. Did not know this thread existed, but here to announce that we too have a Brit "bun in the oven"!

Just passed 20 weeks today and been through nausea hell for 14 weeks :(. The doctor keeps telling us that as long as mum is sick, baby is fine. Well baby must REALLY be healthy then! Thankfully though, we think we are finally coming out of that phase (we hope!!!).

Our ultrasound at 17 weeks revealed that we are - without a shadow of a doubt - having a boy!

Due date is Jan 30 and with everything else, we are still waiting on our I-751 approval as we got an RFE (ugh). Response due any day now. Complicating things further, we decided the house we were in was too large, so we entered a contract back in July to build a smaller house. Problems with the permits though means that the new house won't be ready now till early Feb weather permitting - right when baby is due. And further still, we ended up selling out existing house too fast (19 days) and now we have to move into an apartment.

I, as Daddy to be, am trying to balance all this so that mom to be doesn't stress, but I think I'll have earned every single grey hair I'll get from this.

  6. So I sent my RFE in back on Aug 24 - still no reply yet but......

We sold our house faster than anticipated, and our new house is still being built. We have to now move to an apartment for a few months. I am waiting until the last possible moment before moving out to submit an Form AR-11 in the hopes that a response letter gets to us before Sep 28.

My question is, if the letter is in transit, will the USPS forward the letter per my change of address on file with them, or will it return back to VSC?

The timing is agonizing for us.

  7. I was thinking the same thing...unusually high number of RFEs within this group? My thoughts are it impacts the individual cases as a delay but I wonder to what extent it will impact other cases within this group and thereafter. Hopefully it won't be too bad of a cascading effect.

I just sent off our RFE packet a few days ago. We originally filed with what I thought was a lot of information and proof. Couldn't believe it when they wanted more - just didn't make sense. I was able to dig up a lot more documents, but I'm concerned out the timing. We are building a new house (I sent contract in RFE packet as well) and as we just sold our current house with closing end of Sept. Would really like to have the card in hand before change-of-address goes into effect.

  8. Hey everyone,

Our lawyer was asking way to much and money is tight right now so I figured i'd give it a go on my own. My wife and I have been married coming up on 2 years. Her temporary greencard expires on 2/15/2013 and from what I collected from the lawyer is that we can submit the next form(s) 90 days prior to it expiring. Now what is it we have to do for the next step? Hope someone can point me in the right direction.. our lawyer really screwed us over.

As someone else mentioned, the I-751 process can take up to a year to complete - well beyond the 2 year expiration date. This is NOT a problem so don't panic. When you do file, you will get an NOA letter that states the 2 year card is extended for an additional year while your case is pending.

Do NOT lose this NOA letter.

If you travel outside of the US, carry this letter along with expired GC as this what will get you back in the US.

    Good luck!

  9. Yeah you'll be fine with the extension letter. We are traveling to Canada in August for a friend's wedding with the expired GC and extension letter. I've read that if you get an officer who doesn't know what it is, ask to speak with a manager or someone else because it is a legitimate way to travel.

Agreed. We did a multi-country Caribbean cruise in February and at the re-entry point they didn't blink an eye at the letter. You are good to go.

  10. With our NOA1 dated 11/9, no Biometrics appointment letter yet and well beyond the post NOA 30-day window, we called USCIS today for a service ticket. Got our confirmation number and VSC has 15 days to respond. Hopefully that will resolve the missing letter and we'll be able to move forward.

For anyone still waiting for those biometrics appointments and its beyond 30 days, I would encourage you to call.

Well this move paid off!!! YAY - the Biometrics letter arrived (12/16) and our appointment is Jan 9.

  12. It amazes me that USCIS doesn't mail everything certified.

We already pay a hefty fee, but I'm sure people wouldn't begrudge paying say $10 more for the certainty that their NOA1, biometrics letter, any RFE's and ultimately their GC will actually reach them.

I couldn't agree more. It would be $10 well spent for some peace of mind. Considering that USCIS (IIRC) is self-funded through fees and not taxpayer supported (other than oversight), the additional process would be covered by that fee.

Now if I could only pay for expediting....

  13. I don't get why people are so obsessed about the biometrics letter. Unless you have an upcoming scheduling conflict, why don't you just relax and await its arrival. And even then, you can reschedule the appointment. Your extension letter is valid for a year. Have a cup of hot tea and read a good book instead of worrying all the time.

Several reasons...mostly due to the holidays and not wanting to miss appointments. I know with my business travel schedule, it's difficult enough staying home long enough to get the mail let alone finding out I'm 2000 miles away with less than a week's notice (short notice flights aren't cheap). Throw the holidays in there and the eternal wait and costs we've all gone through, and you worry about every step till it's done.

And yes, we are still waiting for our biometrics letter too - 30 days later.

  14. Hey Magicfn1, ROC is a little different to AOS, from what i've read we have to wait for the Biometrics appointment notice - which will have the correct tracking number on it...

    Ahhh...government at work.

It's the NOA that effectively extends conditional residency and employment authorization. Since we give a copy (I keep the original) of the NOA to the HR department, they only have the NOA receipt to verify on the USCIS site. What good is it to have online tracking via the biometrics letter receipt number when companies don't care about that notice?

Of course, if receipt numbers are the same then my rant is worthless
