  1. I just love how you guys make selecting a Filipina sound like going to the best butcher to get the best cut of meat.

It is exactly what I was thinking. And I don't see what is the point with internet (BTW Al Gore is a good politician but sorry he has no link with the creation of the internet...). I don't want to be mean, and I don't want to throw rocks on people but it is like "you know I'm american and alone, I would like a beautiful girl, let's go to philippines and choose a girl who wants the greencard". I'm so sorry cuz' I know that for some people it is not true but com'on what is the deal with Philippines ?

I was also wondering the same! If you look at the statistics for people who became LPR in 2007, there are more than double the number of new LPR from Mexico than Philipines (148,640 vs 72,596), however I have seen more posts from people from Philipines here...

    Here is the report

  2. Green card = eligible for student loan (but most probably not accepted yet)

    need a co-sponsor with a good/long credit history

Such as my mother-in-law? This would make sense.

How long until it would be accepted?

And what is the best way to build a credit history here in the US as a green card holder?

A secured credit card is good to start, talk to Capital One, they won't mind giving you a card with a low limit with a 22% interest rate. Just always make sure that you pay more than the minimum amount due the entire balance due each month and try not to use more than 50% 30% of your credit limit. It's not an exact science, but that will work.

You also need some kind of income, that helps your credit in a big way.

And nothing helps more than an installment type of loan - and as you probably won't be buying property soon, try to get a loan for a cheap car. This is one of the best ways to increase your credit score quickly, although you have to suffer with a high interest rate for your first few loans / revolving accounts.

And never ever make a late payment or miss a payment.

I won't address which company you should apply for a CC - I don't know enough about any of their business practices - but someone will likely give you a card.

You could also try opening a store card (Best Buy/JcPenney's etc..) with a U.S co-signer with good credit. It is usually easier to get approved for store cards than credit cards.

Also about the student loans, for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you do need a green card .. *BUT* that is not the only way.. you could also get something called Private Student Loan (google for CitiAssist Loan).

In general private student loans have variable APRs and higher interest rates, but they have the advantage that you don't have to have a green card to apply for it (just a U.S cosigner).

I created a Google Docs spreadsheet using the data you have collected so far. I think is easier to view/mantain.

To view/edit the spreadsheet just go here:

Also there's a "read-only" version here (updated automatically):

Wow! that must have taken you quite some time... If you are interested, we could add this information to the vJ wiki, that way anybody can update it. Currently there is a page for September 2007 fillers, but we don't have to use the same page:

UPS said my AOS package will be there (USCIS) on tuesday!

    woooohooooo!

just curious... since my package will be there on tuesday which is sept 30th..

the form i-485 will expire on this date..

do u guys think il get RFE for this???

I also sent my AOS package today  .

I was also curious why they haven't updated the I-485 form yet. I don't think that they'll request a RFE...Actuallly if you look at the USCIS website, for immigration forms it shows that the current edition of the I-485 is 5/27/08 *and* that previous editions accepted.
