  1. Ok, how do I do a search..just when I thought everything was calm  I filed Head of household

For IRS purposes you are ok w/filing HOH. I was told I could either file that or married filing jointly. I chose to do the MFJ b/c it had a bigger refund & of course another proof of relationship..

I tried doing a search for you but wasn't very successful. I'm still learning that option.

Oh ok,,thank God  thanks Nyseness..I was trying to search as well but I was doing it by going back into the pages  I hope there is a easier way

Oh wow Anna I didn't know that. My tax guy said it was a must. Darn I could of got my refund already but I guess it will be bigger then.

I filed single for 3 years, eventually got the ITIN, but the tax forms included in the Affidavit of support were that of filing single. Late last year I refiled for those years after receiving the ITIN. Got a BIG refund. With interest.....

  2. The 3 year ban is not controlled by Kingston, they just use the existing laws. It is a 3 year period starting at the last time you admitted to smoking weed, or from the date of the interview if tested positive.

Hey just dipping in on your conversation, and I just wanted to say that I got so scared recently about the same thing my husband testing positive, so I rescheduled his interview date. I just didn't want to deal with traveling to jamaica for 3 more years I prefer to wait 3 mths for a reschedule. I must that VJ cause I didn't know that I could have gotten a reschedule thanks guys. But good time go by quickly and you can start again....good luck

I spoke to a consular officer who used to work in Kingston. She said it's up to the officer how long the ban should be. She used to tell people to come back in six months but they can ban you up to 10 years :o

And she said it's worse to admitting to smoking than testing positive

  3. Things could be different, but my case was denied for the same reason, but was a K3 rather than K1, so the I-130 was already applied for. It was approved 11 months after the K3 was denied at the embassy. It was approved even though there was a 3 year ban. Of course it was denied at the embassy, but the case remained active until the 3 years were up. I did not need to refile.

Hey everybody!! I have a question: Who do I call about clarification in regards to being able to file for the CR-1 visa BEFORE Gregory's eligibility to receive a visa comes around...since I originally assumed that we wouldn't even be able to apply for a visa until 2009, I hadn't given it much thought. However with this new info, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. After all, receiving the visa (in hand) and applying for one could be construed as two different things...if so, then maybe we could start the filing process late next year...

You know when I read about you waiting to file for 3 years, I thought that was correct as well because of WHY he was denied. Even though many people have said file the CR-1 before that 3 years, I am still wondering.

    Hi Belly's Girl.....

I don't think you can refile before the 3 years. When our denial came through (for the same thing)...I was going to try the other route...and spoke to 3 attorney's...and they all said that it doesn't change the outcome of the prior denial. I'm sure there are lawyers out there that will take the case for the cash....but I would be very careful. Good luck! And best wishes on the upcoming wedding!

  4. Yes, but this isn't Jamaica. I know a guy who ended up shooting 3 people on one of those party boats in Mobay. Eventually he got off that charge, but ended up getting lock up during a Kingpin bust. I was renting an apartment from him on Mobay back in 2002.

I hope it is Saturday June 16th!! I wouldn't be able to go on the 17th being fathers day.

It's actually Sat June 16th. It's the Father's Day VIP Boat Cruise. Check this website for the flyer. Click "enter" and then "events" to the right. Tickets are $60 for single entry & $100 for couples.

:crying: I wish I could go.

We aren't going my husband says to dangerous on a boat  . I guess we will have to wait until July to see who is going to the Fest then. Oh well.

    Have fun Anna

I remember a few years ago I went and the DJ said to rock the boat like the Titanic...it was crazy!!! The boat was moving side to side and I was getting nervous, thought we were going down.... Girl I can't swim so I would have been salty for real...

:lol: He said he watchs the news and has seen people die on party boats. I could rescue you I use to be a lifeguard back in the day.

  5. I read about this at http://www.naptownreggae.com the local connection. We are considering going. Chitown's not that far from Indy.

For those living in the Chicagoland area there is a Reggae Boat Party on Sat June 17th on the Odessey at Navy Pier. It's has 3 levels (Reggae, soca/calyso (sp), and hip/hop) and tickets are on sale at various carribean stores in Chicago. Many artists and DJ will be playing that night. I went to a couple of them and always had a nice time.
  6. Last time I was in Mobay I paid $4000J a day. The person who handles my companies employee transportation in Mobay arranged it for me. We aren't operating right now, and won't be again until probably August, but I could call him and arrange something for you.

I know we talked about this before but what is the cheapest place to rent a car in MoBay? Dwain needs to move his belongings to his mothers house. He has many items he will not be bring up to the states. He told me the cheapest he could find is 150 dollars a day and he has to rent the car for at least 2 days. Is there any better options out there?

    Thanks

    Jax

  7. Our I-130 was approved 11 months after the K-3 was denied. I started the rest of the process 11 months later. CR/IR1's don't expire, but your case needs some kind of action every year to stay active.

what shipping method does everyone use to ship packages to ja? I have always used the regular postal service which is reasonably priced but takes forever to get there. I want to send a package to get there in no more than a week...but don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money...any thoughts?

I was wary of using the post office because I tried sending something priority mail and it took weeks. But someone here suggested that maybe I didn't use the right envelope and that must have been it because the next time I sent something I used Global Express and it got there in under a week. It cost me under $30 with signature. It would have cost much less than that but I wanted the signature. It was a light envelope, though, only a few pages.

I'm reading and realizing that you said packages, so you may be talking about a box or something like that. It might still be the same time frame, though.

You do not need to wait until Oct 2009 to apply again. Your reason for denial of the visa will not stop the I-130 from being approved. Watch the timelines and time your application so it gets approved 3 months before the excludability expires. This should give you an appointment just after the 3 years are up. No wasted time.

I wondered if that was possible, filing again before the three years was up.

For those of you that have recently filed for the CR-1 visa, what forms do you need to file initially? On this site it states that you need the I-130 and the G325 A. On the Dept. of State website it states that you need the I-130 and the DS230 along with the I-864. Which did you guys do FIRST?

First you will need to submit the I-130 and G-325A forms along w/the necessary documents to USCIS. Once you recv your approval your case will se sent to the NVC. At that stage the I-864 and DS-230 part 1 along w/your spouse biographical page will be needed then. Also if he doesn't have access to email then you might want to bring the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) form.

I'm not sure how often you will be traveling to JA (after the wedding) but it may be a good idea to bring ALL the forms and have him sign them. Make sure he doesn't date them so you can once it's due w/o paying add'l mailing charges.

Thanks...I know this is WAAAAYYY premature since we can't even file again until Oct. of 2009, but I just wanted an idea of the order of things...I'm not really pressed right now about getting anything done, just wanted an idea of how it would go...unfortunately I will have many many trips to JA between now and then....unless, by God's grace some miracle occurs and they actually happen to take a real look at our case again... :(

  9. Problems with the bundle, blacked out in my area for some reason.

tee hee hee  Thanks ladies!! Keep buying! I'm addicted to ebay too - but I want to sell everything! I've already sold a gold belly button ring ($63) a pair of silver boots ($15) a pair of black boots ($36) and some concert tickets for Gwen Stefani that I had extras of. I need to find more stuff to sell!!

I have SOOOO many clothes that I can't take with me, just in the process of selling them all. I also sell the clothes my son has grown out of.

I love designer brands but not willing to spend the money for them in the normal shops.

My favorite brands are Burberry and Moschino but they cost a FORTUNE in the states (they still cost loads here though)

Just bought a GORGEOUS Burberry shorts and shirt outfit for the baby, brand new with tags, for £17!!!!

Made a lot of money these past two weeks, my Paypal account is £150 in credit!!

Was thinking of selling photo restoration services on Ebay once I get to the states, will see how that works out.

Ebay can also be good if you have time at home, if you know the prices of certain goods, you can make good money buying it cheap and relisting it for a profit.

PM me your Ebay user name and store! I'd love to get some stuff from you (I love the fashion from UK, I rarely buy anything here unless it comes from NY via Internet)

Congrats to all those that are finally moving upward on their visa journeys

Eric - does your wife like the Jamaican Internet channel bundle I mentioned here earlier?

Those with wedding dates - (L)

And happy belated Mothers Day to everyone

  10. I have heard that was only good for six months before being submitted. Not really sure about that part. But I do know for a fact that Kingston considers it valid for 1 year after issue date once it is accepted.

We both believe that we will never use an evil credit card again and just stick to debit.

What's wrong with credit cards? I LOVE my credit cards. I have a Northwest Visa and I earn tons of miles each month - I'm flying for free again to Jamaica this August on my frequent flyer miles  I almost always pay off my cards in full every month - I don't believe in paying interest! I guess if you're only going to pay the minimum payment each month, you could get in BIG trouble!

  11. Since it is only a matter of a few days, I'd take the oppurtunity to show up with your husband. It looks good.

I don't know if it's still possible but other couples were completing the form online and sending to their SO or had them downloading the form themselves. And when they went to the appointment they would drop off DS-230 part 1 so the Embassy could start the processing for scheduling an interview.

I just spoke to him, he said he could courier it to the embassy. I'm going to be in JA on Saturday so I could just bring it. So should he courier it or should we go to the appt we have for next thursday in kingston?

  12. So far so good. It does not appear that she is missing Jamaica. She does want to go back in Dec for a visit, though I expect to go down for work in Aug/Sept 1-2 weeks and she wants to stay here.

She is having a bit of trouble with the accent, having to repeat herself often, so she make me do the talking when we are out shopping. What a turn around that is. In JA I'd hide so they didn't raise the price.

Her SS card came in Thursday, Friday a welcome to the US letter, and today the 10 year greencard.

Nothing more to do for 3 years.:dance::dance:

It was only 16 days, but this was a blue sheet interview that was rescheduled. I'd guess you are looking at 2-3 months.
Actually $70 isn't bad for a Razr, one usually pays less because they sign up for a plan and the cell provider charges less than the real value of the phone to get your business. That is why they gave it to you for $25, they wanted your contract. Now they have it.

Unlocked Razr's are still going for $125 total cost on ebay.

    :ot:

Anyone have T-Mobile? I have a razr (btw piece of ####### phone & waste of money) and it dropped into some water. Now it's completely dead and T-Mobile is telling me I have to pay $70 for my deductible (even thought I pay $6 a month for ins). I'm a little ticked off right now b/c $70 is WAY TOO MUCH for a razr. I bought my phone for $25 back in Nov. Is there anyway to get around this ins policy? I used to be w/Sprint and they had the same type of ins but I knew how to work them so I never paid a dime.

Hey Eric how long did you have to wait when you rescheduled your wife's interview ?

het eric how are you guys managing with the adjustment period?

  15. The conditional green cards (2 year) is for K1 visas or I-130's where the couple is married less than 2 years before the spouse enters the country.

I just wanted to let you guys know when I was at the Embassy a couple was being denied because they had not know each other for 2 years before filing. Make sure you know your SO 2 years before filing the Visa Application. Just wanted to make this note to help any one out who maybe lurking who has not know their SO for 2 years yet.

I did not realize that was a requirement. I thought you just had to have meet in person within the last two years. No worry none of this applies to me. Sorry...still learning how to post replies.

You can still file for a visa without knowing your partner 2 years, you just get a conditional green card right? I've read on this, and there is a 2 year limit on a certain kind of green card. If you have known each other over 2 years they give you the other one. There are many people who have filed for a visa in less than 2 years knowing each other. I think the embassy was giving that couple the run around or there were probably other outstanding issues that nixed the visa.

  16. This is a bit odd, as I know my friend filed for his wife before they knew each other for 2 years. She actually arrived in the US about 15 months after they met. Now their wedding did a good job of tearing me up, with my wife stuck in JA.

I'm sorry to see everyone leaving, but I certainly understand your reasonings. And even though I personally don't have anything to contribute here  , I vowed that I would stay to see Jax and Anna through their journeys. So now, Anna, I'm waiting for you girl-so hurry it on up :P . But now we have babies on the way, new puppies and some great new people who've joined recently. I guess I'll stick around for a while.

Michelle I'm trying.....someone needs to tell CSC

Hang in there Ana once you get your NOA2 NVC is very consist. I hope you receive the NOA2 soon. :luv:

I know this is off topic but....

I PASSED MY COMPREHENSIVE EXAM TO GET OUT OF GRADUATE SCHOOL!! I AM DONE!! I WILL GRADUATE!! YIPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!:dance: :energetic: :P:P :energetic: :goofy:

    Now, back to the discussions...

    Congrats!!!! :thumbs::dance::dance:

  17. We've lived together in Jamaica, so it's really only the culture shook I'm worried about.

Even her flight has gone the way of issues. They held her up in immigration so long that she missed her flight to Indy. Now she's flying to dallas, and then to indy. Will be here 11pm.

So she's fillanally landed so the visa side is over.

    Congrats Eric!! Welcome home Nickiesha!!

SO ERIC EVEN THOUGH YOU BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS MOMENT AND YOU BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH ARE YOU STILL HAVING THE FIRST DAY JITTERS FOR WHEN SHE ACTUALLY STEPS OFF THAT PLANE? WHAT ABOUT GETTING THE HOUSE CLEANED UP? THE CLOSET READY FOR HER STUFF? SHARING THE BATHROOM SINK....LOL GET READY BUDDY.

  18. Go figure, they probably provided the wrong date. They can't do anything right there. I think it's the fact that most of them are Jamaicans, stuck in Jamaica... so they don't care about the lucky ones that get to leave.

There are quite a few of them that would have lost their jobs had they been working for me at one of our Jamaica centers.

The Visa showed up today, Nickiesha will be able to make her flight tomorrow.:dance::dance:

WELL ITS ABOUT TIME SOME GOOD THINGS BEGIN COMING UR WAY. BUT NOW ITS COMIN TO MY SIDE. SEAN WENT TO THE EMBASSY TODAY AND WAS TOLD HE CAME ON THE WRONG DATE. BUT THIS IS THE DATE WE GOT. I WAS SUSPICIUOS ABOUT IT BEING ON A FRI. NOW HE GOTTA GO BACK ON MAY 15

  19. Birth certificates of parents are enough. That is all I had.

Hey..I was wondering if anyone has checked into getting dual citizenship now that we are married. I think Jax was looking into it....anyone have any ideas on where I can go to get the paperwork started. I think I want a Jamaican passport so that I can skip those LONG immigration lines at the airport and buy Jamaican property with my husband in the next few years.....Any ideas?? :help::help:

    http://jhcuk.org/citizenship.asp#marriage

Thanks. I have been thinking of getting dual citizenship but thru my parents. I didn't know you could also do it thru marriage. Looks likes all the requirements are the same just takes different processing times. My parents are now USC as of 2002. Does anyone know how that may affect me since they don't have a Jamaican passport anymore?

  20. You can alway try google jamaica, it does do a bit better for jamaican releated searches. But, the data found is accurate, as furthur up the page it described what I went through, only less fees as I went directly to the Ministry of Immigration and Passports on Constantspring Rd in Kingston.

wow i was just looking up the same info on yesterday. it was hard to find but i kept trying in google. it seems like all we need is 7000j and marriage cert, birth certs, the worst part is that it takes a year. that was the turn offf for me. but i only found it one place maybe you can do a better search. i looked up citizenship by marriage to a jamaican.

  21. A better method would be to go to the office in Kingston in person with the documents. They will copy everything they need. You don't need an appointment. Once they send you the Citizenship paper, go back and have then stamp your passport with an unconditional landing stamp.

I did this claiming citizenship through my mother, so it only took 6 months instead of a year. But think about all we are going through to do the same for our SO. You can easily leave JA and return for the papers.

WOW....that is crazy one whole year it could take to get the citizenship...and you have to send in both passports and get a police record...wow the whole passport thing i think is crazy...you can't leave the country for basically a year....

at least until we have kids...i'll do what rhonda did....

  22. Yes, at http://www.foreignphone.com/

I'm pretty happy with Cable & Wireless Canada's Foreign Phone. Cost is in Canadian dollars.

For $34.95 a month I get Unlimited Calls to US, Canada, and Great Britain. 0.03 to a Jamaican land line, 0.17 to a Jamaican Cell phone. I have an Indiana phone number and a Jamaican number. So I am a local call from JA.

Call forwarding is great, I have gotten online and changed it to forward to the embassy, then call my US home phone number from the office when I needed to call the embassy. I also change it with my cell browser to call my wife when I'm on the road.

Now as she is planning on leaving JA, she is giving her family and friends a local number that they can call her on.

Wow, that's a cool plan. And they have that in the US? I need to check that out.
