  1. My husband and all of his family is in Southport. It's beautiful there and going through this process sometimes makes me wonder why I didn't move there instead. Oh well.

I would absolutely go for the biometrics early. Especially if the wait time is 3 weeks or more.

Panterchen it will be interesting to see if or when you receive any info on your case, if it's before you bio appt. was.

we might do that, do we just show up at the place with appt letter and id? My wife's just worried they'll turn her away lol

Will you let me know how it goes? Waiting for my letter and then I'm going to go early I think to get it done with..

  2. So now we've sent them in, can we track them online using the A number? Anyone know where to look? I tried USCIS website but it said the number was not long enough.... Thanks

I don't think you can track it with your A-number, you need your case number. It should be on the NOA 1; soon as you get it you can go back to the USCIS website and check on your petition, I guess.

Thanks! Hopefully that will arrive soon!

    Am I missing something?

WOW! It looks wwwwwwaaaaaay more organized than what we sent in yesterday!! Looks great... now I have my own concern.. are we supposed to send extra copies of the I-94 and visa page with the other forms even if there's already a copy in the packet? *biting lip*

I did at least send in 6 passport pictures...

And ummm... we do have certificated copy of marriage certificate, but we send in a copy of it (we'll bring the actual certificated copy to the interview -- hopefully!!)..

    *sweat forming*

I don't think I was as thorough with this packet as I was with the K-1... :(

I didn't send enough passport photos! I didn't realise they were needed for the travel permit application! Guess we're getting an RFE.. Will that hold up the EAD anyone know?

  4. Hi, I'm in Ohio and I want to get my drivers license.

I'm in the middle of AOS/EAD and my EAD just got approved (got letter in mail today).

What all do I need to get my DL, what documents do I have to show them?

Do I need to wait for my work permit to get here, then get my SSN and then DL? or can I get my DL already without having my workpermit?

I'm also in Ohio and I called the DMV. They said I just needed my passport with visa in, the NOA1 for AOS if I had it or if not, a letter from husbands work saying that he worked there, earned x amount and was married to me and was supporting me. Bit random but that's what they asked for! We sent in our AOS documents last week so as soon as I get the first response, I will be going to take my test...

  5. Just finishing up the last bits for AOS, and sending off...we've been busy busy busy with the Little One and all that...plus I changed hours at work, so it's a bit hectic!!!!

We ran into a wall with SSN, as the stupid woman at our office didn't understand the policy even with it spelled out in front of her...so we're going to try again on Thursday...

Jason, which office did you go to? I went to the one in Worthington and it took me about 2 minutes to get my card... Maybe try there if it's anywhere near you? I think it's worthington, right next to the bid mcdonalds.....

  6. Oh yeah! How was your wedding guys? Where and when did you get married? Was it a big party or a small private ceremony?

We got married March 7, 2009 in Tulsa. It was a big party and tons of fun. We had alcohol for free for everybody so everyone was on the dancefloor grooving until midnight when we had to leave the mansion that we booked that day.

Unfortunately, Dan and me ended up a little too drunk. We shared that place right next to the toilet that night and one of his friends who was too drunk to drive home anymore shared our hotel room with us that night....hahaha....So far our story, which is a little different from what one could expect from a wedding night I guess. Here are some pictures too.

    The pictures are gorgeous!!! Congrats!!!

We just had a tiny ceremony, our parents all came to the house and Hals parents are friends with a judge so he came over and married us right there. We're having the big wedding in May for everyone...

    Sending my package off today!!!!

  7. Not sure whether I should put this on the checklist thread or here but I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Here's what I'm going to take to the interview to support the I-134. I'm concerned (paranoid) about my fiance being self employed, so I want to take lots of evidence:

    I-134 original signed & notarized + copy

2008 1040 Tax returns (full 68 pages) originals + copy

    2008 W2's & 1099's + copy

Self Employment letter signed by my fiance & notarized + copy

2 Employment letters originals signed & notarized + copy

Retirement account statement showing $20k+ available cash + copy

12 months bank statements + copies

Will we be ok with this? or is it a bit over the top?

i took SO much stuff - deeds to the house even! the more the merrier, i think you'll have plenty though. they didn't really want to see any of it in the end so all those trees wasted...

  8. I apologise as i know that have been numerous posts about problems getting a SSN but i'm going a round in circles now...

At POE i asked the immigration guy when i could apply and he said on the 10th day of you being here.

So on the 10th day i went to the Social Security office closest to us, i had the SS-5, my birth certificate & passport with I-94. I was told by the lady that on a K1 i couldn't get a SSN!

So i came home and printed off all the information from VJ on K1's can get a SSN, should have taken it 1st time around!

Back to the SS office the next day armed with all the documents required and the information on Employment authorization for nonimmigrants (RM 00203.500) and the memo. The girl i saw this time input all the information and gave me a letter saying it had all been forwarded to Homeland Security to determine if i could get a SSN and i should hear something within 4weeks.

So 4days later i get a letter from the social security office to say that they cannot give me a SS card at this time because Homeland Security have verified my status as a n alien nonimmigrant not authorized employment in the United States.

I tried calling the social security office and everytime i got through and said what the problem was they hung up on me!

So yesterday i went to a larger social security office close to a Military base, thought they may have more experience of K1's, took all paperwork with me and waited 2hours. When i got to the window and presented all the paperwork the girl input everything. She then advised that it would be forwarded to Homeland Security for them to decide and i would hear back within 4weeks.

I showed her all the paperwork showing a K1 could get a SSN and she said she didn't know of many successful people getting it on a K1 regardless!

Well this morning i received a call from the social security office to say NO i couldn't get a SSN!

What am i doing wrong?? does anyone know of an office in NC that does approve SSN for K1's i'm willing to travel to get this sorted out!!

As i have been told that SC have changed the requirements for getting married and we both must have SSN to get married! We'd booked the wedding when we had been told that i didn't need one so now i'm freaking out!!

I can't really help as I'm not in NC, but I got mine straight away - only took a couple of minutes, no questions so you should be able to get one... good luck!

  9. Copies- USCIS specifically says so on the I-485. Originals will be required at the interview.

Thank you! Just one more question - the A number - is that the number on the K1? and if so, what is the visa number then? the long one along the top? thanks!

  10. The name on file with the DHS will become your legal name. When you file for EAD and AOS, you will be able to change your legal name there. If you are interviewed for your AOS, you can make another change at that time.

sorry to be stupid - but you're saying i just put my new name on the forms and that's it? i don't need to go anywhere/do anything else? thank you so much!

  11. Welcome to the states and Congrats on your incoming wedding, once you are married, you can start out with social security Department take your marriage certificate there to have the name change,

Go to DMV to change your name on your driver's license, your bank account, they can issued you new cards on your married, and basically just start using your new name from now on.

Should I get a social security number before the wedding and does it have to be in the same state? i'm in ohio but i'm going to be in illinois for a couple of weeks and want to get my aos forms sent out asap.... do i need to change the name for social security first? or just send off the forms with my new name? i feel like there is something i'm missing... sorry if this is a stupid question!

  12. Please post any links to health insurance companies here! We've been looking, but are a bit overwhelmed. We're getting married immediately after his arrival, but we're not sure when he's technically considered a resident. After AOS is approved, or immediately after marriage since his K1 is null then?

the best i found so far is the post office which will cover you for 17 days until you can sort something else out... not great, but i'm not getting anywhere! left it a bit last minute...

  13. it is only 2photos you need. and they have a booth in the Embassy £4 for the pics if you don't have any US size ones.

If you keep 2nd & 3rd guessing all you've done/not done you'll go insane!! i know i was heading that way!!

I thought that you would have worked it out by now that I am already insane

God I wish I knew that you could get the pics at the embassy, much cheaper than snappy snaps

Might get some more done when I am there not to keen on the ones I have got

Take them in case... that way you dont have to worry about getting them, and make sure you have copies of everything... they lost our packet 3 forms, i had copies so we were ok!

  14. oh thank god that is great news.........I am feeling so bad for Dawn and Zoe I keep looking out the window checking that it has not started snowing again

I heard we're supposed to get another 8 inches overnight...
