  1. Hi all,

had my interview on Friday and got approved so I am extremely happy about that. It was not nearly as scary as I expected although there was a bomb scare just before my number came up so we were all hearded into the only windowless room for about 20 minutes! I have my flight booked for a week on Monday (the 7th, BA strikes permitting!) which I thought would allow 5 working days for visa to arrive but I forgot about the bank holiday tomorrow  so not sure whether to take a chance and wait it out or rebook?!

I will put a full review of my interview in the relevant place.

Good luck to all of you still processing and a massive thank you to everyone that helped

  3. Hi Guys, I have my interview a week on Friday and have just checked all my paperwork for the 10th time! But I think I have found a problem so would appreciate your advice quickly! My joint sponsor's tax return is filed with his wife yet he has only sent me his w2's so the amount on the tax return is more than his w2's. not by much as the wife only works part time but do i need to get her w2's also? On the i-864 he has only stated his earned amount for last year (which is what his w2's add up to) its just the form 1040 that has a higher amount as wife is included.

He is my joint sponsor and the i-864 is in his name only.

Please advise - trying my very hardest not to freak out right now - cant believe i did not think to add the w2's up before - i hate the finance bit its the worst :(

  4. Simon, I moved in the middle of my case to stay with relatives while waiting for my interview date. I called the extortion line and they gave me the correct email address and the code to put in the subject line of my email so I could directly email the correct department about the address change.

I did this and then they replied saying they had updated thier records and now had my new address. Unfortunately you have to call the extortion line to get the code to put in the subject line of the email as it changes weekly

    Good luck

  5. Hi, have not posted here before as been following the London DCF thread but now i have my interview date I thought i would add my details.

I am applying for the IR1 visa through the London embassy as hubby and I were both living here when we applied (he returned to the US a couple of weeks ago to start his new job).

I sent packet 3 back on March 22nd and got packet 4 letter today April 23rd. My interview date is May 28th.

Interestingly I called the extortion line this past wednesday to see if a date had been given (which it had not at that point) and he told me i would hear in the next 5 - 6 weeks so was definetly not expecting the letter today! The letter is dated Wednesday so the date must have been given after I called.

    Good luck all

  6. Well done jhphi, good for you!

I just wanted to let you all know my progress. This week was 4 weeks since I sent my packet 3 stuff back saying I was ready and I was feeling really down as missing hubby who went over to start his new job on April 5th. So i decided to call the extortion line on Wed 21st to see if a date had been given as I started to get all paparanoid that my letter may have been lost or some such silliness! Anyway the extortion line said no date had been given for my interview yet and I should hear somthing in the next 5 - 6 weeks.

I was very disheartened as you can imagine and got a bit upset. So imagine my surprise when the packet 4 letter arrived this morning! My interview date is May 28th which is 5 weeks today so hopefully I will be there with hubby in 6 weeks :D

The letter is dated the 21st so the date must have been given after I spoke to the extortion line - what a waste of a fiver! Oh well - am very excited now.

Thanks for all your help as usual

  7. Hi,

Having read the last few posts I am wondering about this domicile thing. I understand it is to prove the USC is intending to return to the US permanenetly but I have not seen a request for it anywhere on the packet 3 web page

    http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/ds2001.html

so how do I know what to use?

My hubby (USC) has already returned to the US to start new job so we can get something from his employer and by the time my interview rolls around he will be in our newly rented place so I can get a copy of the lease. Will this be enough?

Thanks as always for all your help and good luck everyone

  8. Hello all,

So hubby flew back to the US today to start his new job and move in with his brother for a while. I had my medical last Tuesday and I am now waiting for my interview letter so I am hoping we will be apart for only 4 - 6 weeks which is a lot less than most of you, I know. Still tough though after 6 years of not being apart!:crying:

Anyway, not sure if I am posting this in the right place but I was wondering if any of you that have immigrated to the US from the UK can suggest a shipping company. It is only to ship paperwork, photo albums and books etc. I dont mind how long it takes as its not urgent stuff and it will only be a couple of boxes but a lot of it is books so quite heavy.

    Any suggestions would be great,

    good luck everyone

  9. I agree with others on here that the reason we get stressed and upset (and a little crazy!) is because no one likes to be apart from the love of their life for a long time.

However when I feel down I remind myself how the family of those in the Military must feel as they also spend months apart from their loved ones and there is a chance they will never see them again, and they don’t always have Skype and IM to contact them whenever they want as we do. This makes me realise what we are going through is minimal and we really have nothing to complain about.

However I did a silly thing yesterday and read an entire thread about why people get denied the visa on interview day which kept me awake last night worrying!

    Good luck to all

  10. This is not necessary for those doing DCF through London, where it is possible to pass the domicile test more easily than it is currently in Montreal. The only rule is that the non-USC must enter the US at the same time or later than the USC spouse.

Well I guess we will still be ok as he is going there before me and he is the USC

    Thanks elmcity :D

  11. Another quick question! Does my spouse have to enter the US with me when I immigrate as he was planning on going over earlier as he has a firm job offer? Just saw something on DS-230 that made me nervous about this as he already has flight booked! I will be staying here at my mums until the visa is ready in next couple of months. Is it ok if I come into US alone when I have visa or does he need to be travelleing with me?

    Thanks again!

  12. Hello all - I too am a fellow london DCF - we sent the initial I-130 Jan 2010. Anyway I am a bit late signing up to VJ but I do have a question.

I got the packet three letter from London and I am awaiting my police check back. I am also awaiting my joint sponsors paperwork to come to me in the post (they are in US so this will take a couple of weeks max). My question is - am I safe to send in my DS-2001 and checklist now even though I dont have the above documents in my hand? It seems like the wait to interview is currently very loooooooong so I am assuming I would def have both of the above documents by the time my inerview date comes around.

Or do you think to be on the safe side I should wait until I physically have these things before sending DS-2001?

Just want it to go as quickly as possible as Im sure you all do, this is a very stressful process!!!

    Thanks very much

  14. So far, you've done absolutely nothing wrong. You can get back into the US, though depending on what route you take, it may take some time for the paperwork.

If you lie or omit a material fact (and the fact that you've got a husband in the US and have immigrated is probably a material fact) in order to gain admission, you'll subject yourself to a permanent bar on entry. DON'T DO THAT!

I'm not sure whether you have abandoned status or not. It sounds like you may have. But in the worst case, if you have, all it means is that you've got to start over and get a new immigrant or K-3 visa. If anything, the process should be easier this time, because you've already met all the admissibility criteria, you know what to expect, and your marriage is more than two years old, so you won't have to go through removal of conditions. Abandoning status isn't a permanent thing, and it's not at all a bar to future immigration.

Thank you so much for your reply - you have put my mind at rest that in the future I will be able to move back, THANK YOU, I understand I will be able to go through the K3 route in the future. What should I do in the meantime if I just want to visit for a holiday, will they give me a hard time?

    Thank you again

  15. Hi all,

I left the US a year ago - I had a 3 year green card and was able to apply to lift conditions and get the 10 year green card in about November 2007 (I left in August 07). At first I was just visiting for a few weeks to take care of a sick relative, however my stay has gone on and on and I am still here a year later. I never filed any paper work when i left as at the time it was just going to be for about 6 weeks. Unfortunately I have still have no idea when I will be returning to the US as there is no one else to take care of my relative (his only carer passed away hence the longer stay). My husband has now got employment here and is going through the British immigration system as we now think due to the situation with my relative we will be here for some years to come.

Have I 'abandoned' my immigration status as my 3 year green card has now expired?

Can I ever go back to live in a few years?

Will I have to start the immigration process over or have I totally blown it forever?

Will they let me in for a holiday to visit my husbands family?

Should I admit everything on the way into the US for a holiday or should I just act as normal tourist that has never had visa etc???

My husband is really upset with me for letting it go this far - it was just so up in the air with my relative that I kind of buried my head in the sand (I know I have been stupid) and I am now really scared they will never let me back in, even for a holiday.

Any advice greatfully recieved, thank you

  16. Hello all,

having recieved my 2 year green card back in January i have been lucky enough to not have to worry about immigration for a few months :D

However my husband and i may be moving back to the UK (where i am from - my husband has fallen in love with the UK!!) and i wondered how this would affect my status here - i think we will be leaving before the 90 day period when i can apply for the 10 year green card so i would not be able to get it.

What would my status would be when my two year card expires if i am residing in the UK?

I read that the adjustment is usually easy and does not usually require an interview - should i go ahead and apply for the 10 year (when the time comes) as if i were still living here just for the benefit of having it?

Hope this makes sense, i know this is quite a specialist question so all advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Stacey
