i got my non-o in 2006 so it makes sense that the price is up, looks like tourist visa went up also (it was 25$ per entry last year). having a thai spouse must make it much easier to get a non-o, i got mine for doing volunteer work and needed to provide lots of documents. my first application was denied at chicago and the i applied in denver (now closed i think) and got approved for multi non-0. i did manage to stretch it to 16 months like others said.

Getting a Non-B visa for Volunteer work would require a lot more paperwork since you also got a work permit at the same time.

If you can get a non-o from oregon (be advised most thai embassys and consulates state side will reject you for non-o without heaps of documents and you lose your money) that easily it may be a good option. It does cost 125$ for the non-o multiple entry visa (dont know the cost of single entry) and after 3 months you have to border hop anyways. So if all you need is 3 months a touist visa is great (total cost around 85$ with extension). Or if you need 4 months just do one month on arrival and then a trip to Loas. I like to go to Loas as a vacation within a vacation when i visit thailand, its great fun there!

Non-O Multi Entry is 200, single entry 80.00. Tourist Visa is 40.00 per entry + Extension is 1900 baht (approx 60.00 USD) to make 90 days, and the hassle of having to go to Immigration for the extension. They are now giving 30 days at land border crossings again instead of 15 days. Still cheaper and more convenient to do Non-O.

I am not sure who told you heaps of paperwork to get a non-o visa from the embassy or consulate.

I have used Fedex to Oregon on all my Visa applications, I send out on Monday morning, get the passport and visa back by Thursday. I send it overnight, and then have it returned via 2 day Fedex.

The extra paperwork and Income/400K comes is required when you are applying for 1 year extension of stay in Thailand. You only need to apply for the extension if you are planning on staying here long term, and even then it is not necessary if you don't mind leaving every 90 days.

The increase in the income/assets for Non-Immigrant "O" visas for spouses to the same as for retirees was widely discussed on ThaiVisa as being put into effect in England and Australia.

The Thai Embassy in D.C. does not spell out the requirements for income/assets, so not sure if this change is worldwide or just for the two afforementioned countries.

I just got a Non-O visa in March through the Oregon consulate, only thing I had to show was a bank statement from a US with the equivalent of 40K baht.

As for staying in Thailand and doing a extension of stay based on marriage is 400K in the bank, or 40K in income. The law or requirement has not been changed, and I know several people over the past 2 months that have done the extension of stay in CM and the requirement is 400K or 40K, or combination of both.

There was a Thai Visa thread where people were saying it has changed, and it was proved to be completely false, and the people quoted had no idea what they were talking about, as proven over and over in the thread. Thai Visa is a very reliable and unreliable source of information. Just like on this forum and getting any visa everyone's circumstances are different, some people might have overstays in their passports, possibly multiple tourist entries, and it looks as though they are living in Thailand on the wrong visa and abusing the system, which is more of what I believe they are trying to crack down on. The land border crossing now have a sign that says you have to show you have X number of baht when coming in (20K for tourist, 40K for Non-O), I have never been asked to show I have the money, however a friend of mine has been asked, and almost they almost wouldn't let his Chinese GF in with him because he was carrying all of their money.

The principal difference marriage gets you is you can obtain a long-stay (O-A) prior to 50 years of age and previously you needed to have only half the money in the bank and/or pension income but this is changing I believe to be the same as retiree's O-A requires (800K Baht assets/ 65K baht pension)

We haven't register our marriage yet - want to be sure that doesn't place barriers in the way of Gob being a fully entitled Thai citizen - the restriction on Thai women married to foreigner buying land has been eliminated, but want to make sure of what else may result from registering with the Amphur.

The requirement is different than a retirement visa, you only need 400K in the bank for 60 days the first time, and then 90 days on the next extension of stay, or you can have an income of 40K baht a month.

From what I've been reading on TV, almost every province has an immigration office where you can do your 90 day report now. I think some of them even let you do it by mail. Of course I also read on TV that all of them seem to have different rules from each other. You know how it is there. Today's rules will be different tomorrow. Best bet is to just follow the posts on TV.

If you are in an area without a Immigration office you can do the 90 day report at the local police station.

How long are you planning on staying? If you're planning on more than 30 days, you might want to look into a Non-O. If not, just get the 30 day stamp at the airport. You can actually make a couple visa runs if you want and turn that 30 into 90. That would require a quick flight to Penang or something like that. I hear they're only giving 15 days at the land borders now. Like the other poster said, best to ask on Thaivisa. Anything more than that, you need to look at a Non-O. Non-O is 1 year visa that requires 90 check ins at immigration. You can actually turn it into 15 months if you do it right.

I lived there for 2 years on 30 day stamps. The coup in 2006 brought that to an end.

The land borders are doing 15 days only, and some of them are limiting the number of times you can do it back to back.

With the Non-O multiple entry you get 90 day stay on each entry, but you still have to exit the country and come back every 90 days. You can do an extension of stay based on marriage at immigration which removes the need to exit the country every 90 days, but still requires you to report to immigration every 90 days. With the extension of stay you need to have 400K baht in a Thai bank for 60 days, and/or have income of at least 40K baht per month.

Doing the paperwork and getting the extension is not bad, and is a lot easier than doing any of the paperwork for the US. The biggest issue is that there really is no standard guidelines at Thai Immigration, some follow the immigration code, some officers don't and make you bring extra paperwork.

Which airline are you trying to book through and is it more than 1 month out. My friend that runs a travel agency here said always book your flights out of Bangkok in the 3 to 4 week before the flight and buy direct with the Airline, that is the time they release the group blocked seats. I just checked Korean BKK to LA and the One Way was 875, RT was 1275, 3 weeks from now. I normally fly Korean, EVA, or Thai. Used to pay the Thai premium when they had direct to LA, now I deal with the 11 hour layover in Korea to have Seoul straight to Vegas.

Change fees are not 250.00 depends on the airline and the ticket class. Korean doesn't charge a change fee if you change to another flight with the same class ticket on a different date, otherwise the fee is 100.

One way saves some money, the last time I booked a one way back it was around 750, and the RT was 1200 from Bangkok to LA. Go directly to the airlines and you can find good deals, especially 2 weeks before the flight.

I want to apply for the passport, expedited....The website says 2-3 weeks....Can you guys share how long it took for you the receive the passport recently...I want to apply the day of my oath and travel 3-4 weeks afterwards...Is it safe to buy the flight ticket now and trust that the passport will really be there within 2-3 weeks...any Advice is appreciated! I am in florida, I don't know if all the passport will be produced in Miami for Florida!? Thanks

My wife got hers in 8 days. Applied on Friday at the Oath, and got the passport the following Saturday. Paid Expedite.

The wife is finally done. She had the oath yesterday.

I have been on this site since the start of our Visa Process in 2008. We are coming to an end in a few weeks with my wife's oath ceremony. I have used the site extensively for searching and finding information on my questions and it has been wonderful. One of my pet peeves with lots of posts and topics on the site is the fact that there is so much hearsay. When I was searching for information specific to a topic, I would read well I heard about this person or that person, but never had any credible first hand experience. Then when and if I did find the information, it was followed by a ton of negative comments. It is always better to deal in firsthand facts, if my employee's ever tell me: They said this, or this happened to so & so cousin, I dismiss them and tell them to speak to me with the names of who "they" are, and which employee's cousin said what. Drives me nuts.

I think if a topic area was added that was titled First Hand Experience (or something similar), with people required to put in what the posts pertains to, and not allow for comments or follow up. Make that Topic area read only, and just the experience of people (Only related to the Visa Process), no questions, just statements and what issues or roadblocks they had to overcome on their journey (not personal, just things they ran into at the embassy, NVC, USCIS, interview).

Example:

For instance my wife received a 10 yr GC at AOS (should have been a 2 yr). I called USCIS 5 or 6 times spoke with different people over the years (all documented on my end), and even made an Infopass appointment, and had been told by every single one of them she does not need to file ROC she has a 10yr GC. We get to the citizenship interview the officer called us in and says the GC is invalid because it has K1 on code and not C or P, so we can't complete the process. The AOS officer made a mistake 3 years ago, and now we were delayed, even with all the information of who I spoke with etc. The officer even told us we were lucky she was let through the point of entry, if the CBP officer would have noticed her physical card was wrong she would have been denied entry even though the computer had the correct code with 10 yr permanent.

We were lucky in the fact that USCIS admitted it was their error and they expedited our ROC (2 1/2 months start to finish). But could have been avoided had I been able to get first hand knowledge of someone's similar situation. I would have filed 2 years ago, and not had the issue. I did searches on the site and could not find anyone that had the same situation, although I did find people asking the questions, but never got an answer. I myself posted a question and never really got a good answer from someone it had happened to. I have gotten quite a few emails from people asking the outcome as they were in similar situations, I did reply to them all with my experience and what they should look for and the questions they need to ask USCIS.

We got the Oath Date today.

Wow i guess i am the only one left .. Not good

My wife just had her interview a couple weeks ago, and was approved. The status online changed that they sent her a date for the oath, which I hope we have in a couple of days.

I thought we were going to be the last ones out of June.

Have you called to check that they received the information?

Here is what stands out to me .... in the first Q./A., it says that absences of more than 6 months will generally disrupt your continuous residence UNLESS YOU CAN PROVE OTHERWISE. There is a checklist that you can look at to see if you can prove this BUT ... we also know from the many many many stories here on Visa Journey that over and over again, people who even come close to staying out of the US for 6 months at a time often experience significant delays and there have been reports of denials. At this point, it will be up to the discretion of the IO (interviewing officer) to determine if you have made your case. And I wouldn't want the fate of my citizenship being at anyone else's discretion.

One of the huge perks of becoming a citizen is that you no longer have to count days spent outside of the U.S. and worry constantly that you are doing something that will cause your permanent residency to be revoked. For me, staying out for more than 6 months at a time is simply a risk I would not take (barring extreme extenuating circumstances). All the work to get here, all the years spent married to USCIS ... to me, it's worth just taking shorter vacations for the next few years and then filing for citizenship ASAP before going on your world tour.

Regardless, there are so many opinions on this, I would STRONGLY urge you to do all the research you can and make up your mind for yourself. This one's on you.

We got through with an absences of 10 1/2 months. They reviewed all our documents that we brought, made some copies of a couple of them, and approved on the spot. Our oath letter is on the way.

I was a bit worried about that absence, but with the proper documentation and a valid legitimate reason for being out it was a non-issue at our interview. Our reason was awaiting a decision if our son was going to need surgery and with no medical insurance in the states it was going to be very expensive. They did read through the medical history and make copies of the medical records, and asked us questions about the length of stay out. I did keep my US company, along with having cars, mortgage, etc here in the States.

Everyone's situation is different and every officer is different and it is most likely very subjective. I did a bunch of research on the site, and I did not find anyone who was denied because of staying out over 6 months (just hearsay, but no one with the direct experience), but then again, doesn't mean it won't happen and if you can avoid being out over 6 months, I think it is best to. Why add more hassle if you can avoid it.

I don't think you can stay out of the country for more than 6 months without breaking the continuous residency for naturalization purposes . There is difference between keeping your GC, and being eligible for naturalization

You can stay out of the US for more than 6 months but less than 12 months without breaking the continuous residency. You have to prove you have kept ties to the US and not abandon your residency. Some of the valid ways to show you are keeping residency, a place to live (lease or own), working for a US company, etc.

Today we had out ROC interview, and since it was the same office and our Citizenship was pending due to the AOS error, the officer went ahead and did the wife's citizenship interview. I feel sorry for the officer having to listen to our son cry and squirm, it was well past his nap time, and he started having a cold last night. Went very smooth we did the ROC interview, then they asked me to go back to waiting room, did the citizenship test with my wife, called me back in to make a copy of our son's medical records since we had stayed out of the country for more than 6 months waiting to find out if he was going to need an operation.

They gave her a paper letting her know she is recommended for citizenship, and we are now waiting for the oath letter. Took us a few months longer than expected, but everything is looking good.

Unfortunately we are still trying to fix the green card, we have an interview for that this Friday, as long as they approve it. We can get re-scheduled for the citizenship interview. I am sure we will be the last June filer to complete this process.

AaronLV I find strange you haven't get an Oath letter yet have you call them?

We haven't had the interview yet. When we went in for the first interview, they found an error on the wife's permanent resident card. When my wife was issued the card, the officer had put down the wrong code on the card, and no one had caught it until the officer at the interview was reviewing all of the information. The computer was correct, the card was wrong. He told us we were lucky that CBP didn't notice when we came back in the country from our trips, because they would have denied her entry. So we had to refile for a GC, and are now waiting for that to process before we can complete the interview, they put the N-400 on hold while we get the GC fixed and then will complete the interview.

I have requested an expedite since it was USCIS error, but of course I have still heard nothing....

As I said that there is no any process of registering to serving in a jury duty or in other words-people in the United States don't make a choice of whether or not they can or can not serve in a Jury duty; rather courts randomly pick up their name from a list of database that they receive from various govt. agencies. Once someone receives that letter, s/he must need to notify the correct requested information to the court within permitted time.

Even in United States, some govt. officials are seen to be providing Voter Registration Form in the court house where Oath for citizenship is being taken, but not at all places though. And once someone is registered to Vote, then a person's name is placed in govt. database for a possible juror. But registering to vote is not mandatory here in the United States nor one could automatically be entered in Jury pool by virtue of registering to vote.

I've lived for 22 years at the same address and never received any court letter about Jury duty until recently despite of being a US citizen for many years. While on the other hand, I know a lady who is in this country only for 9 months and recently became a LPR but she has already received 3 letters from the court relating to Jury duty. So it's about randomly picking up names by the system.

Every state decides themselves how they select jury members. Nevada does it from Drivers Licenses Database. My wife got a jury summons, we faxed over a copy of her PRC, and she was excused.

It's my personal opinion, without judging or going into any personal attack with you or anyone else, that updating or making this kind of list wherein you post/update who has been interviewed or taken oath doesn't help much; instead it just prolongs a thread because of a such a long list of this kind. I think most people come on here to get help and to read stuffs that could help them than looking into such a long list of people as to who has been scheduled for the interview or who has taken oath. We all know that each case is handled differently and each district office operates differently. Thus, we can not make out much from this kind of long listing. It just takes so much space on a thread away while reading important issues. Just my opinion. Please disregard my opinion if it has offended anyone.

I disagree. It gives a good idea of when different offices are processing, and a way to gauge how long it might take to get your case completed if you are in the same office. Obviously all cases and circumstances are different, however it gives us all the comfort that USCIS is actually processing cases and not sitting around doing nothing. We are in a situation where USCIS made an error and is making us re-file our removal of conditions, so we are on a wait on our citizenship. I have requested expedite, since it was their error not to mention the fact that it has put my business in jeopardy.

Wife went in for her interview today, the interview didn't happen. Apparently the officer who processed our AOS made an error and now we have to re-file some paperwork. Grrrrr....

I am a American living in Las Vegas. I am thinking about moving to Thailand. I am a licensed Real Estate agent in Nevada. Does anyone know what is required for me to sell Real Estate in Thailand? Any info would be great or if someone knows someplace online I can get info would also be great.

If you are just looking to be an agent in Thailand, I am guessing you are going to be out of luck as you will need to find a company to hire you and get you a work permit, as there are many Thai nationals that are doing the job. If you are at looking at starting your own real estate business I would suggest working with a lawyer in Thailand to get everything set up, it is a tough process unless you are fluent in Thai. Getting our business setup was not easy, and we still got screwed in a few areas.

The wife still does not believe they are going to send it to her I told her to get back to studying.
