  1. If Montreal has it, they automatically extend it if you've sent back you Packet 3. I was worried when mine was getting close to expiry so I sent an email and got a response that as long as anything they have requested that you've sent back, then they automatically extend it. If your the reason why its going to expire, (i.e...you delayed in sending anything back) then you would need request to have it extended. But you've sent packet 3 in so its just a waiting game now. Good luck and I hope you hear something soon.

  2. If you can't get your vaccination records your family doctor can do titer tests to check and see what you already have been immunized against. I had to do it. Read the guides above to help you along. I got as many of the vacc. as I needed so that I didn't have to pay for them down here. My family doctor gave them to me. I only ended up needing one, and I had an elective one that I paid for when I had my vacc supplement transcribed. Here is the link for the vacc requirements.

  3. I know it would be nice if we had a copy of the thing. Oh well, I guess. NatPatBen has a good point, though.

At this point, I think we're going to go to a clinic and see what shots he's had and what he needs. I'm pretty sure he got all of them in Dakar, but the doctor-or his assistant-in Dakar won't answer the phone and he has no vaccination record. So, it looks like he'll need to be tested to see what he's had and what he needs. We'll get the necessary shots there and then go to the CS. Is that allowed? To go somewhere cheaper for the vaccinations, then get them transcribed by the CS? The nearest CS (45 miles away) charges $350 for the medical. I found a CS two hours away that will do it for $175.

Hope everyone is having a good three day weekend!

I went to my family doctor and had the titers test done to see what vacc. I needed. Then he gave me the shots for what I needed. I just took the slips from his office, and from the titers test with me. My CS accepted them. I managed to lose the one for mumps and it actually costs alot less to have the shot again then it was to run the tests. He said it wouldn't hurt me to have it again as they weeken over time anyways. So I opted to have it again. $21. for the shot verses $200 for the titer test to show I had it already. You might want to check into that. Oh and we had a wonderful weekend! LOL

  4. When we went to the Civil Surgeon, she told us that they are given instructions not to give out copies of that. She felt it didn't make sense, but the government tends to be secretive about that sort of thing.

So I brainstormed: Why would they NOT want people to get a copy of their medical results? And I came up with a likely reason: If a person doesn't "pass" the medical exam, and know that they don't, they may not use the sealed copy given to them. Instead, they might take the necessary actions (whether waiting, bribery, whatever) so that they can retake the medical and pass it.

That's the only reason I can think of for not wanting people to have a copy of their own medical results.

Kinda ticks a person off though cause you pay for it, and can't have a copy of it. It would make it easier when the RFE a person for it.

  5. Well,I didn't send in the I-693, so that makes sense. I was hoping to get away with it, but oh well.

It would be nice if they'd actually give the benificary a copy of the medical so you have it for a backup. At least if you get an RFE for something wrong you could look at it and see what the problem is. Considering you pay for the damn thing a person should be able to get a copy of it. Our RFE asked for the entire medical, after many phone calls I actually got to speak to an immigration officer who figures..."we probably don't have it...just got get another one". Good luck with everything.

  6. To be more specific-Page one says the I-693 was incomplete. Part 2, Section 5 on either Page 3 or Page 4 is blank or missing. I failed to submit proper documenatation of immunization for the form I-485 applicant. It goes on to say that I must complete a I-693 with a civil surgeon and that a properly completed vacintion record includes Part I, Part 2, Item 5, and Part 5, Civil Surgeon's signature.

Page 2 says that I-693 is incomplete. Page 1, part 1 is blank or missing or not signed and that I need to complete form I-693.

Page 3 says that the form I-693 is incomplete. Part 5 on the last page is blank, missing, or not signed. The vaccination record must be completed by a civil surgeon.

    It seems kind of redundant....

Actually the page 1 is understandable, that's the whole trans. of vacc, but your page two that references Page 1 part 1, is something wrong with your I-693 you submitted in the "about me" section. Page 3, the part 5 sounds like the civil surgeon didn't sign the original I-693. I could be understanding it wrong. I say they are having issues with three things on your I-693, your vacc portion, your about me section, and the civil surgeon section. If it were just the I-693 vacc section, you should have only gotten the one yellow letter. My 2 cents worth....:blush:

  7. That is very true. And one of the reasons that people still deciding between a fiance and a spousal visa need to seriously consider. It was the deciding factor for me in choosing the CR1 over the K1.

I would have loved to have spent my first year of marriage living with my husband rather than separated by the visa process but when it came down to the risk of not being able to fly back instantly to my parents if they needed me there was no real choice for me.

Of course in the end I have not needed to fly back for an emergency - but I couldn't take the risk. I hope threads like this help people still deciding between the two types of visa.

    So True!

  8. The Advance Parole document is the document you use so your case isn't considered abandoned when you depart the united states. It doesn't have to be for a emergency or compeling reason. Just a travel document that you need to travel with. The AP is usualy for multiple uses, may wish to contact Customs and Border Protection on this. Form takes 3 months at max to process. After its been 3 months, call NCSC to put in a request for the Outside of normal processing times.

No but if you request expidited service on it, it has to be for "good reason". I believe the OP is looking for that service on the AP. They process them on a first come first serve basis. You have to provide reasons, illness in the family etc. Not because you just want it. When you call the 1-800 # it actually gives examples of reasons for the speedy request of the AP.

  9. Then you need to be prepared to deal with the consequence of your action. There is a procedure to help people in that situation that can let them legally leave within a day or two. if they chose not to follow that legal course, they need to accept the ramifications of their decision. My husband and I both knew what to do if an emergency came up and knew what we would do if something did occur.

You never actually know till you go through it yourself. Being able to leave in a day or two doesn't do a person much good when they are literally saying "hours" left. Being able to see a loved one before they leave this world would be more important to me and I'd be on the first plane out and like you said, deal with the consequences later. On a happy note though, when we came back from ice fishing today I had an email from my friend that she's back in the US. I called to find out the details but there was no answer. I'm sure I will hear from her tomorrow.

  10. I don't see any "TOUCHES" on my USCIS portfolio at all. The last update was on 12/28/2009. Just wondering

whether I would still get e-mail alerts if there were new updates on my case?

We actually got our biometrics notice, and and RFE all while our status never changed. When I called to inquire, I was told that its up to the officer working on the case as to if he or she updates. They are not oblilgated to do so. Ridiculous! Why bother having a system that allows people to check for themselves that saves them phone calls if they aren't obligated to update it.

  11. That sounds easy, but when you get a phone call that your parent or sibling is dying, what's more important, saying goodbye to a loved one, or waiting for paperwork or Infopass and then regretting not seeing your relative before they died?

I agree with you. I know my friend is someone who wears her heart on her sleeve. I know the minute she got the call, she dropped everything. She was very close to her brother. Its easy to say think about everything first...but honest, some of us can't.

  12. Difficult news to receive the day before the interview.....I will say a prayer for you both that this turns out to be nothing more than a benign (harmless) cyst or something else of little significance. I work for a physician and we see things all the time like this; a good percentage of the time they end up being nothing to worry about. I will send positive thoughts your way for a good report.....

On a more "clerical" note, isn't something like this a good reason for folks to try to get their medical scheduled a few weeks ahead of the interview? I thought that in general you shouldn't try to schedule the medical the day before or the same day as the interview. (although I realize that the OP may have had extenuating circumstances for needing to do it this way....) Maybe this situation reminds that it is best to have it done and out of the way ahead of time so that no stressful "surprises" crop up......

However, the bottom line is that I truly hope things turn out ok for your fiancee'. Hang in there.

Being from Canada I think I can help you understand why alot wait till so close to their interview date. Travel. Canada is a big country and USCIS has decided that only 4 doctors (I think we're still at 4) in the entire country and do these medicals. One in BC, One in Ontario and Two in Montreal. The cost alone to travel and the time involved. Myself, I scheduled a week in Montreal so that I could have the medical on Monday and to give them time to get it completed and interview on Friday. It was a 14 hour drive one way, plus hotel and meals, the medical. I know alot of people say, "but you knew it was going to cost $$ getting into this" and yes I agree. But everyone wants to save where they can because who knows once you get to the US, get married, file AOS, etc if you will get a job right away. Ideally if it was closer it would be best to have the medical a few weeks out to address such issues as the OP has posted. To the OP get to the interview, ... your just waiting for medical results..and hopefully they will extend some time to get the medical in. I hope it all works out for you.

  13. Wasn't this question asked here about an I-94 wth multiple entries and weren't they advised not to do this?

In this process if ANYone makes a mistake, it is YOUR problem. when you enter on a K-1 it is SINGLE ENTRY ONLY and the I-94 is valid for 90 days. Period. Anything else it says is wrong and YOU will pay the price if you ry to take advantage of someone else's mistake.

    Thanks for the reminder

Yes Gary and Alla, I asked when I got my I-94 as it said, multiple entries on it...I thought maybe it had changed or something. I told her not to go, but her bother was quite ill. I didn't know that till today, he passed away before she even made it back to Nova Scotia. Hopefully she will get a sympathetic ear at USCIS. She did do her biometrics.

  14. Just wanted to post this as a word to the wise. My friend who came here on a K-1 visa and is in the process of AOS is back sitting in Nova Scotia at her parents as they would not let her cross back into the US. She argued that her I-94 says multiple entries, and its still valid but the CBP officer said that it was her responsibility to know that a K-1 only gets one entry till they adjust status. She was in tears as she read someone posting on here that its "ok" to go back and forth. I told her, "I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO TILL AP" but she didn't listen. Mine says multipe entries as well, and I questioned it on here. She just responded back a couple days ago for the RFE she received for the I-693. Hopefully her honey can send her the AP when it comes and she can get back to her new life.
