Thought I'd share this for completeness, and as when I was worrying about this last month, I didn't spot much in the forums about this.

For some reason, after I filed my I-751 I never received the NOA1 receipt. I had seen the check had been cashed, so I knew they had done something with my packet.

Luckily, the Biometrics appointment did eventually appear, so I knew that things were progressing normally. I phoned up the USCIS help line to ask about the receipt and eventually was told I could only inquire about it after 30 days. So, I waited, phoned again, and eventually was told that they had sent the NOA1, and they don't re-send copies, but I could make an Infopass appointment to get a stamp in my passport.

So, earlier this week, I visited my local USCIS office and they were very helpful - they took away my now-expired green card and gave me a temporary I-551 stamp in my passport, extending my residency for a year (and it explicitly says employment authorized).

So, in conclusion: if you're missing your NOA1, don't panic

So the good news is that I got approved Mar 16, and received my GC Mar 27!

By the timing of the approval, I can't help but wonder if they were waiting for us to file our taxes, to make sure my wife had earned the amount we put on the affidavit of support. It could just be a coincidence, but I had filed a few weeks before the approval.

If that's not it, I assume the FBI check is for any criminal record and might even involve them asking your home country for your criminal record there. That can definitely take ages, especially if you don't have a criminal record!

Update from my InfoPass appointment... The USCIS officer in Seattle was very nice, friendly and reassuring, she told me that my application was being put through additional review, which happens sometimes. She basically said they're waiting on the FBI to get back to them, which can take 4-6 months, but I shouldn't worry. I have my EAD and AP already, so the wait isn't really a problem for me. She said that the Officers had been telling people 2-3 weeks, but that's the best case scenario, so there are others in the same boat as me.

I'm wondering whether they're waiting for our tax return to be filed, or something like that. My wife got promoted last year, so her income is going to be higher this year than it was in 2007, so I figure they might want to check that the info we put on the Affidavit of Support is correct. That's just my guess.

Anyway, I just have to be patient for a few more months. I should be used to this by now!

If you have an American Express card from your home country, they'll transfer your account to a US one. Instantly gives you a credit history, as they declare you've been a member for X years (including the time as a member abroad).

My InfoPass appointment is Tuesday, but my mum made an interesting point - we've not been married a whole year yet, so if I did receive a Green Card before Mar 21st, and it lasts only 2 years, then I still wouldn't have been married for 3 years when the 2-year GC expires.

Could it be that they're waiting until 1-year anniversary? Does anyone have any experience of receiving a GC too quickly

Yeah, I just called to make sure I'd tried all the hoops.

I wasn't told I was approved or denied, just that we'd find out in 2-3 weeks. The officer seemed to be positive, though. I've not changed address and I'm pretty sure the mail should have been delivered okay. I'll schedule an appointment.

There is no point in phoning the 1-800 line they are not USCIS officers they are a call center. Make an infopass appointment use any reason that will give you an appointment. it is coming up for 3 months since your interview. Most people have their greencard within 2 weeks of their interview.

Were you told you were approved at the interview? you say your last touch was Dec 17th have you changed address at anytime or have you had letters from USCIS returned to them as undeliverable? You need to find out if you have been approved and if so where is your greencard?

Do not wait another month or more.

I've just got off the phone with the USCIS helpline, which didn't tell me anything new apart from that Seattle's current processing time is Mar 29 2008, so I'm within the timeline.

Will InfoPass do me any good here, and if so which option for a reason do I pick - the website gives me these options, none of which exactly apply:

Order from Immigration Court - If you were directed to us for processing based on an order from the Immigration Judge. You must bring all documents required in the post order instructions given to you by the court.

Case Processing Appointment - If you received a notice to go to your local office for further case processing.

EAD inquiry appointment - If your I-765 employment authorization application has been pending for more than 90 days.

Case Services follow-up appointment - If it has been over 45 days since you contacted NCSC and have not received a response to your inquiry.

Am I just being impatient?

Hi all,

I had my AOS interview on Dec 10th in Seattle. It seemed to go well, and the Officer told me that I'd hear back in 2-3 weeks. It's now been 10 weeks and I've not heard anything - the last touch of my case online was Dec 17th.

It seems from the Immigration Timelines section that other people interviewed in December have had their Greencards already. Is there anything I can do? Am I just being impatient? Before this, everything was proceeding quickly and fairly smoothly!

Any thoughts?

My interview was today in Seattle... I'll know the result in "two to three" weeks. It all was fairly pleasant and relaxed - she asked a few general questions, looked through our photos (kept some). It took slightly longer than otherwise, as me and my wife don't have any shared bank accounts - so we had to answer a few questions seperately. She asked us a few things like:

Is there a clock in the bathroom?

Do you have any pets?

Which side of the bed do you sleep on?

Where is the mailbox?

What did you eat for dinner?

All pretty simple, really.

Anyway, all we have to do now is wait

I just got an email saying card production for my EAD has been ordered... now I wonder if it will appear before my GC interview

Hello folks,

I'm very excited - I received a "Request for Applicant to Appear for Initial Interview" today. That's good, right?

It says it's regarding my I-485 - am I right in thinking that this is the interview where they accept you for a Green Card? Do they ever interview you more than once? If not, this is *amazingly* quick - I wasn't even expecting my AP until Christmas!

Anyway, I'm not in your September list - our timeline is:

Jan 2005 - Entered US on L1-B visa

May 2005 - Met Jenni

Mar 08 2008 - Married in Seattle (Lake Union Cafe - highly recommended!)

Sep 11 2008 - I-485 / I-130 / AP / EAD package received by USCIS

Sep 15 2008 - NOA1 - I-485 / I-130 / AP

Sep 25 2008 - EAD refiled (first one I used an old form... )

Oct 10 2008 - Biometrics Appointment in Seattle - (btw: had a later appt date for my EAD as it was filed later but they combined it with this one, and was very quick.)

Dec 10 2008 - Interview!

Finally, my interview letter is dated Nov 5, but my case online hasn't been touched since Oct 13...

You should have received an NOA with case number... If they rejected your EAD because of an outdated form, you will get the entire application back.

Just to complete this, the day after I got the NOAs, as payxibka said, I received my EAD form returned as it was an out-of-date form. Apparently a bigger envelope takes longer through the mail.

So, anyway, I've refiled my EAD with the correct form.

Hello all, I'm new here.

Yesterday, I received NOAs for my AOS package. I received 3 NOAs - I-130, I-485 and AP, but I didn't receive a NOA for my EAD application.

I now realise, as I took a long time getting my package together, I actually sent an old EAD form, not the latest one.

1) Should I have received a NOA, or a letter informing me that I sent the wrong form? If so, does that letter just take longer to mail?

or,

2) Do they only send out only some of the NOAs and I should not worry about it?

I'm thinking that I should just send in an updated EAD form.
