No (or not in Seattle, at least), but they give you the relevant form you can fill out. From the travel.state.gov website:

"You must submit Form DS-11 in person at an Acceptance Facility or Passport Agency."

Use the links to find your nearest one. You need to bring a passport photo and your check-book with you, as well as your naturalization certificate (which you have to send with your form).

NB: When I applied I had to get a new passport photo, as the one I had to hand from my naturalization submission was actually too dark and wasn't up to spec. I guess the USCIS doesn't really require pictures as they take their own.

Guys just a question to those who had their oath taking,

can we apply for a US passport there on the area of the oath taking,..?

Wow, that's fast! I applied with expedited service late last Friday (21st), my check has been cashed and the application is "being processed" according to their website. Will be interesting to see if it arrives early next week. The website only claims 2-3 weeks for expedited, so I wasn't expecting it for a while yet anyway.

So after taking the Oath on the 19th Sept, I applied for a passport on the 20th at a local acceptance agent (USPS). Not expedited or anything special, received my passport in the mail today, Sat 29th. The passport was completed and mailed out on the 27th. Pretty amazing it was that fast, thought others might like to know. SS update Monday, and once the certificate is back I'm completely done!

My wife's cousin works for Social Security - she told me that when you go in to update your social security card, it's a lot easier for them if you just show them your new US passport instead of the naturalization certificate. Apparently they have to use a USCIS computer system to verify the certificate (which can be slow), whereas they can accept the passport on face value.

Hope that's of help to someone!

My wife's cousin works for Social Security, she said one of the computer systems has been down that they use for verifying citizenship has been been down - I'd imagine this is just an oversight or a bug. If you have a passport and your naturalization certificate you have nothing to worry about, I'm sure they won't take that away from you.

Hey Guys i Have a question : i was done with my oath ceremony last month and then i got the passport too .

but today i looked up on the uscis.gov site with my receipt number and it still says TESTING AND INTERVIEW ??!!

should i be worried about this or should i call the uscis people or what, its been more than a month and they

have't updated my case status . this is kinda spooky.

And I'm an American! There were 98 new citizens from 37 different countries at my ceremony. I've registered to vote already (online, but they had forms at the ceremony) and now I have to go and apply for a passport, as I'm travelling to the UK at the end of October. The sad thing is, the passport application requires the original naturalization certificate, so I'll have to be without for a few weeks until they send it back with my new passport.

I received the text on Jul 3rd and my letter arrived on Jul 12th, so 8 days (but there was a holiday in there). My oath letter came in just 4 days - I suppose that's about right for standard first class mail.

I also received an email and SMS informing me that I was in line for the oath ceremony very last night too. But the email says it happened on Aug 16th (that was 3 days after the interview). The system must have had a hiccup and a backlog to get through! I'm still waiting on my oath ceremony letter. Hope it turns up soon, I've got a trip at the end of October planned.

I got an online update/notification today mentioning that I am now scheduled for interview, this is 18 days after I received the actual letter in the mail.

I passed my exam too! Unfortunately they interviewed me after they'd done the oath ceremony for the day, so I'll have to wait for the oath.

The most difficult bit was probably proving I was still married to my wife - we don't have a shared bank account, but I brought a Life Insurance document, our shared health insurance, a payslip from my wife and few other documents to prove we lived at the same address and were married.

Questions (in order I can remember them, we went through them pretty quickly):

• What is the name of the national anthem?
  
• What happened on 9/11?
  
• What is "rule of law"?
  
• Why does the flag have 13 stripes?
  
• What is the ocean on the West coast of the US?
  
• How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?
  

Did they asked you to bring those documents in writing or you just happened to brought them?

With my interview appointment letter, there's a page with a list of things to bring, and one of the things for applying on the basis of marriage:

E: Proof of marital union as well as proof of residence;

I'm not too sure quite what to bring exactly - we don't have a shared bank account. At least our tax records show joint residency, I suppose.

What's the wait time like for getting the actual interview letter in the mail after getting the email??

Yeah, my initial notification came 2 days after my fingerprints - and I just got notification that my interview is now scheduled... so the Seattle line, at least, was only 2 days long.

I thought that's the norm. I hope that line for scheduling is not a month long though.

Adding my NOA.

Quick question - my NOA just tells me my address and DOB, asks me to check they're correct then says "Upon receipt of all required Record Checks, you will be scheduled to appear for an interview at your local USCIS field office". There's no mention of fingerprints. Is that normal? I know the appointment is a separate letter, but I was expecting it to be mentioned on my NOA. I did get my fingerprints scanned about a year ago when I was removing conditions from my green card, don't know if that matters.

No update after that. If no a NOA for the next one week, what should I do? Should I contact them?

I can tell you now that they'll tell you to wait at least 90 days before you can contact them asking about a missing NOA. But, it'll probably turn up soon!

I sent my packet yesterday and I was tracking my package and it was not delivered to the right zip code!! Should I be worried????? The zip code I sent to was 75266 and it went to 75260!!

I'm really worried! I tried calling USPS but they are closed for the day so I have to wait til tmrw to call.

What should I do??

I shouldn't worry, it's more likely to be a mistake on the USPS data entry than anything else.
