Salut Keweul, your status of being a U.S. citizen should have no bearing on your French citizenship status. France allows dual citizenship thus far. Here's a French article dedicated to applying for the French biometric passport at the French consulate in New York: http://www.consulfrance-newyork.org/Passeport-biometrique#5

As the paragraph under "1.Passeport Biometrique" states, you'll be automatically registered at the French consulate at NY when you apply for the passport. How long ago did your passport expire?If it's less than 2 years it shouldn't be a problem.

You should contact the NY consulate to ask exactly what extra documents they'll need but I'm guessing your old expired French passport and your French birth certificate should be enough to establish that you're French. You'll also need to provide some proof of residence in the U.S.

I just renewed my French passport at the French consulate in Chicago. It was easy peasy...got the new passport in 10 days.

Finances are tight so I figured I'll get my US passport first (in case I need to travel) then apply to renew my French passport later on (but before I plan on visiting my home country of St. Martin which is in the Caribbean ). hi guys...quick question..I recently became a U.S. citizen in September of this year. I'm originally a French national registered at the French embassy in NY (which probably expired too lol ). Will it be a problem when I go to renew my expired French passport in the future seeing that I no longer have the green card? I was told not to notify them of update in residency to US Citizen, but when I go to renew the passport they'll want some form of proof that I'm documented to reside in the USA.. Anyone had a similar experience? What should I do?

I will be applying for my US passport soon but wanted to know if I'd be able to renew my French passport without traveling back to my country of origin. Any insight appreciated.

Hi Guys,

So tomorrow is my oath ceremony and I made a mistake filling out the form (N-445, Notice of Naturalization) that I need bring with me filled out. Like an idiot, I did not read the instructions carefully didn't realize that the questions being asked at the back of the form only apply to the timeframe after the interview. So i answered the first two questions yes (have you ever been married, or traveled outside of the US), when they should really be a no. What do I do!? I was thinking of using whiteout, but I am not sure if this is allowed.

No worries. A few people did that when they returned for my oath ceremony and they just corrected it on the spot. The person in charge noticed that they misread it and didn't make a big deal about it.

Thank God. This immigration process has finally come to an end.

My interview was scheduled for 12:30pm in Mt. Laurel, NJ (I live about 15 minutes away from it). I left home about 11:55am and arrived at the service center around 12:11pm. By the time I went through the security check and sat down it was 12:15pm. There was about 13 people in the room when I sat down. I was called in at around 12:30ish (don't remember the exact time, the room had no clock and I didn't look at my phone). You were allowed to carry phones in so I put mine on silent as to avoid disruptions.

The officer interviewing me was very friendly. She swore me in and briefly explained what was about to happen. After being sworn in she went over my application line by line asking me if information was correct. Then she asked the yes/no questions and at the end of that had me sign the application.

Next step was to read a question, she then dictated the answer and I wrote it down. Following that was the oral civics questions. If my memory serves correct she asked:

Who is commander in chief of the military?

What are the two major political parties in the United States?

What is the political party of the president now?

Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

There were 13 original states. Name three?

Name one state that borders Mexico?

Since I got all 6 correct she said I passed and asked if I can come back at 3pm for the oath ceremony today (of course I said yes). She finalized some paper work and handed me a form to bring back with me that just stated the date and time of oath and on the reverse side yes/no questions regarding any changes since interview (you have to sign this when you arrive for oath and turn it in).

I returned for Oath at by 2:50pm with my husband and kids (they initially separated us in different rooms). I was asked to hand in my green card and verify the information on the naturalization certificate. There was about 25 people from 20 countries taking the oath. We watch a few videos, swore the oath, said the pledge of allegiance and was given our certificates, They went over how to get a passport and them sent us on our merry way...whole ceremony took about 1 hour.

You're not sounding stupid. That's what this site is for, HELP. The yellow letter is simply a reminder of what to bring with you to the interview. It doesn't mean that you've been scheduled or that you'll soon be scheduled. When you get scheduled is all based on what your local office case load is like. Regarding your fingerprint being two months ago - not sure on how long it takes for the background checks to be completed. I believe this is based on country of origin, your name, and what, if anything, is in your records. If I've mispoken on anything please correct me (anyone).

Don't want to sound stupid but what does that yellow letter mean? I'm not really sure if I'm "in line" for interview or not. On USCIS site it still said just that they have scheduled me for fingerprints and that's all. I took fingerprint like two months ago.

Received email today that I've been scheduled for interview, yeah!

Hey guys, I just got back from getting my biometrics & fingerprints done in Philly, PA. Got there around 7:45am and was out by 8:10am (left me phone in the car as it was prohibited to be used inside). There was a handful of people there (around 10 or so), line went pretty smooth, no issues. BTW, they gave me a book to study that also that has an audio cd in it (guess I'll pop that into the car to listen to on my commute to/from work ) Now onto the next step!

Umm..you didn't use the latest either..I edited one of my dates in the post just before yours and I see its gone back to the old...No biggie, will re-edit, just saying

LOL...my apologies...the more ppl added the harder it becomes to keep track. All it takes is one person and we're all thrown off hahaha....minor fixes in the grand scheme of things.

So far, my check hasnt been cashed, nor have I received any notification of them receiving my paperworks - My packet was received by them on May 9, 2014. Im not in a hurry, but should I be concerned? Thanks.

I would think you'd at least receive your NOA by now...strange , not sure if anyone else has any insight/input. If it were me I'd give them a call, but just my opinion.

Got my fingerprints appointment scheduled for June 12 in Philadelphia, PA. Thought it would've been in Elizabeth, NJ but guess Philly is the logical place since it's closer to me. Also, I've added Faery to the list.

I sent mine priority 2 day mail last Friday and it still hasn't even been delivered (waste of money). Maybe yours is the same issue. Fingers crossed!

I received a text and email yesterday confirming that they'd received it. Hopefully you hear something soon. It's bad enough what they charge to file this application so I wasn't tooo concerned with spending more money to have it sent priority or 2 day (I was ok with "snail mail") lol.
