  1. I brought my wife to the U.S. on a K-1 visa in September 2010. We've been married over a year now. She has her Permanent Resident card (expires 07-14-13) and combination Employment Authorization & Advance Parole card (expires 04-11-12). I think she is now eligible to apply for a Social Security Number. I'm just a little lost on the next step toward citizenship. Also, how does renewing the Perm Res card fit in? Thanks for the help.

You probably want to head on over to the Removing Conditional Status Forum in order to see what your next steps (after getting that SSN!) are going to be.

Suerte from one half-Ecua couple to another!

  2. Update!

Got email in the morning 11.05am telling me that my case has been put in line for oath scheduling.

My status changed to "oath ceremony"

Just sat down for dinner and got a text that my case status has changed. Checked online and it says I've been scheduled for an interview!!!!!!

Please update my status cause I can't figure out how to do it:

    Interview letter received 01/19/2012

    Interview 02/23/2012

In line for oath scheduling 02/27/2012 morning.

    Oath scheduled 02/27/2012 evening.

    Cincinnati is fantastic!

Congrats! Cincinnati sounds wonderful. I wish Hartford would step it up!

  3. I received a yellow notice today :(. They recommend me bringing my State Drivers's License. Why would they ask me for this? I live in Houston 1 1/2 years ago but have not changed my Driver's License due to time and because I will go back next year. Any idea why I received this notice and any suggestions ?

Because the majority of us are receiving the same notice. It's not personal. It appears to be an automatic thing sent to a large number of us waiting for interviews.

  4. Success finally! I have been obsessively checking the USCIS website every day for progress on the case, and this morning I logged in to see my husband's work auth was approved on Friday! So exciting, the card should come in the mail any day and I know this will lift his spirits. I am going to consider this is Valentine's Day gift, hopefully in comes in by then.

Congrats! Here's hoping that he finds work quickly and that you both regain the pep in your step.

  5. Thanks guys, that does actually make a lot of sense. I'll try not to worry myself too much for another month haha (yes, easier said than done, but I never looked at it this way and it does give some me some perspective). But if I haven't heard anything yet by early March, I think I'm going to make a phone call lol :)

That's one of the reasons I'm so ready to be done with USCIS. No more anxiously checking the mailbox to see if today is the day for some notice to arrive!

But I will say waiting this time around is easier. As opposed to the CR-1 visa, at least now we get to wait together instead of being 3000 miles apart.

  6. And it's so much worse in winter. We experienced this and had to wait out all the snow before practicing for the driver's license. Anything to be out and about you have to do. Is there an inexpensive gym in your area? When it's too frigid to spend much time outside, a trip to the gym is usually helpful, especially if you can go together. Or a local indoor team to join (soccer, basketball, etc) for the winter months?

As others have mentioned, the ESL courses are good for learning the language and just for meeting people on your own. We have a lot of free options in our town, even down to weekly conversation classes at the library.

When Spring comes it will be better. When he can work, it'll be doubly better. But let me add that the adjustment period can last a long time. My husband is working and generally happy with what we've made for our life here. But, the longing for 'home' is still buried in there. I imagine this is true for everyone who gives up his/her life in one area and starts anew in a completely different country.

  7. Hey guys, can someone update my info? I received a letter saying my biomethrics is on 01/30/2012 but I did it today on 01/20/2012.

So is it true the Washington DC field office is slow? How long does it usually take from here? Thanks

Yes, I hear that DC is very slow. One filer, Arlington on here, sent their stuff in in July and they have their interview at the end of this month.

  8. Just a note - I went and had my biometrics done at the Oakland Park service center today as scheduled and it took all of ten minutes! There were only three people ahead of me in line and three behind me by the time I was done, so the longest part of the procedure was sitting down and filling my info in on the clipboard. It sure was a change from going out to the overcrowded Sunrise office five years ago! Now to wait for my Interview letter...

    Glad it went so smoothly.

    Now back to waiting!

  9. I read on an earlier month's N-400 submission thread that they are good for 15 months. It appears some folks ahead of us in line didn't have to do biometrics. So I think it's possible that since yours are within that 15 month timeframe that you *may* not need to redo your fingerprints.

I did mine on Jan 30 2011, but I had to do againg for N 400!!!

Yeah, I think it's best for us to just plan on having to do them. And then if we get news that we don't have to, it'll be a happy surprise.

  10. are some of us exempt from biometrics if we are filing under the 3 year rule? had my last biometrics done in December 2010 for removing conditions on GC, its only been 13 months since that.. I am confused
