  1. It was not until Post 23 that the information was given to sensibly comment.

It could have been mentioned in Post 1.

You posted in the UK forum, how was anybody supposed to guess the situation?

Perhaps because a number of people in the UK forums have been following Marm's case with all its up and downs (all of which have been posted in the UK forums) with baited breath in the hope that the US immigration people could prove to be more efficient than their UK counterparts and get her fiance back his passport in time for them both to attend family weddings in Pakistan before they head off together for their new life in the US.

I do hope they get this sorted for you soon Marm /hugs

  2. I think it depends on which operator you speak to at the NVC which phrase they use. We too were told both during our stay.

The same is not true of DoS operators when you are enquiring about a case at the embassy, they use the phrase administrative processing to mean the ordinary paperwork steps at the embassy and additional processing to mean the security checks. I found this out after freaking out on the phone when I was told we were in administrative processing at the UK embassy after just being released from AP at the NVC.

  3. my greencard finally arrived on july 18th!

i tried to go to the social security office today with my greencard to get that offensive "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" line removed from my card and it didn't go very well...

when they tried to verify me with dhs, apparently she could only see my maiden name and could not proceed as the names didn't match. she said that they sent an electronic request and i should hear a response in four weeks!

has anyone else tried to do this?

Congratulations Rocks, sorry you're having a hiccup with the SS card.

  4. It should be a real doddle for you. I eventually got round to taking mine on Thursday and passed :) One of the things I will say about the written part is there were questions on the amount of fines and prison sentences and state laws on insurance levels as well as the actual driving questions. Obviously this may vary from state to state but Texas want you to know the every bit of the nitty gritty. The driven test was much simpler and shorter than the one I did many years ago - no 3 point turns, no reversing round corners, no emergency stops - just parallel parking.

  5. I guess 6 years of waiting is still not enough...we thought we will be together really soon but now our papers is stuck in NVC for administrative processing...They got our papers last July 6 and we have no idea how long it will going to take...

Welcome to the thread - sorry you got stuck here, hopefully they will keep up the pace and your stay won't be too long

  6. You don't need a SSN to file AOS.

Ok, cool, thats such a relief. We're going to file as soon as we get the I-693's back from Dr Arnold next week (hopefully!).

I just have one more question; is it ok to submit copies of the letter from employer, bank etc that we used for the K-1 process a few months ago? They are still relevant as they refer to his income this tax year, and maybe just submit copies of up-to-date payslips as he is still with the same employer?

I just submitted the 2008 tax return and a copy of the same employer letter as before with the I-134 and that seemed to work.

I didn't use a lawyer the process seemed very straightforward after having gone through the K1 already.

  7. When I flew Dallas to Manchester via Amsterdam the luggage is automatically transferred for you and I am fairly certain that my arrival gate opened onto the main departure lounge and all I had to do was walk to my departure gate and I did not have to go through immigration. Each gate has its own security checkpoint and x-ray machine so the queues at the gate can sometimes be quite long though the plane from amsterdam to manchester won't be that large so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I know I had a 2 1/2 hour transfer and got to look round all the shops 2-3 times each and was bored out of my mind by the time we got to leave.

  8. When I first got here I thought i had suddenly lost my ability to navigate a shopping trolley around a supermarket as people were constantly saying excuse me. I then realised that a lot of them were saying excuse me when you could get a bus through the other side of the aisle. I just assumed that some people have a habit of saying excuse me everytime they pass somebody and are not necessarily asking you to move out of the way.

  9. Haven't caught up with posts because we just got in, but...

:D Yis, Knight and I tied the knot! A thousand thank-yous to Nich, my surrogate mum, who made it all happen. Shaz :( I wish you coulda made it...

It was all very madly planned, and we had no idea if it was going to work so we didn't say anything :D but it worked! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Am le tired (flight got delayed because the plane was borked, Continental was VERY sorry for us missing our Anchorage connection and put us up in the Sheraton in Houston for the night -- would have called you Nich, but we were utterly out of it and I know you're outside the city!), need a shower, and found Bean somehow killed a bird by the front door on the inside, even though he's been in all week and Knight's buddy's been checking on him...

I've also got a very mysterious package with a hair pin, a thank-you card and no name...

Yooooo! :D But, more later. Now, shower + sleep.

    Magpie.

    Congratulations on the wedding Magpie!

  10. being in the south with no greencard is causing me a lot of problems, i wish this was all over so i could live a normal life like everyone else. :( i'm so tired of justifying myself to the xenophobic morons here. i've had my work permit for two months and i haven't been able to get a learners permit due to xenophobia at the local dmv, i only managed to get it by my husband taking the day off to travel to a different county and waiting there all day. i also encounter problems like i did when i tried to buy some cigarettes from a gas station a few miles from here, the lady decided she was homeland security, going through all of my passport with a fine tooth comb and checking my visa to apparently verify that it hadn't expired... i've also been told that i won't be served alcohol because my british passport is in french and they can't read it? i've never been made to feel so bad in all my life. my husband tells me to laugh off their ignorance because it isn't that frequent but when i encounter it i can't help but feel very angry, upset and insulted.

Sorry you are having such a hard time, those experiences would make me feel very down. I find it upsetting enough when shop assistants can't understand my accent. I hope they speed up with getting your card out to you.

  11. So Hi all

Have been incredibly busy and yet not busy at all. Hope you all don't mind but as I spent so much time going through the process with you all in the K1 lead up I thought it might be nice to continue on the journey here. (even if I am an Aussie)

A a result have only started AOS. However have managed to get the forms out of the way and get my MMR jab. So now just need to collect evidence AGAIN including getting MIL to fill in co-sponsor forms etc.

Plans for today get new passport pictures, called Dr Arnold's office to get my MMR transcribed. But have realized I never got a copy of my medical. Did anyone else have a copy from London??

Welcome to the thread :) Good to see you again.

Grats on being transferred Damian, have fun at the wedding Nich (they having it in San Antonio?), and grats on the AP SkParker

  12. I'd use the date in your timeline if you updated that around the time you sent it off then it should be fairly accurate

Best of luck, this does seem a longer wait than normal

  13. They refused to give me the code until after my interview date had been scheduled. I tried twice to get it - once with a query about a previous marriage certificate that they didn't know the answer to but they didn't think I was entitled to send an email to ask the embassy staff about it, the second time when I wanted to ask for a specific time frame window for the interview. They eventually gave it to me after the date was scheduled so I could ask for it to be rearranged.

  14. Just dropping in to say hi.... I used to be a regular on this thread, was stuck 50 days in AP back in Jan/Feb/March.

I see some of the old-timers are here: hi Lisa, cdneh, Talyss, and Badgerella!

Sorry to see people still getting stuck in AP, but glad to see that the wait times really seem to be shorter than they were.

Well, I just wanted to update folks of some good news....

we finally had our embassy interview, and we PASSED!!! My fiancee Thanti had a straightforward interview, after all the hassle we had at NVC and then getting Packet 3/4 at the embassy in Bangkok. She'll pick up her passport with the K-1 visa on Wed, board a flight on Thursday night, arrive in Chicago on Friday morning, and be here with me in time for fireworks on the 4th of July on Saturday. So, things do have a way of working out well in the end if you're patient. Need lots and lots of patience.

Also a head's up .. another veteran of AP@NVC, Mike (girarm) was stuck for 38 days, and his fiancee is having her interview in Bangkok literally RIGHT NOW (8 AM BKK time Tues morning). Hope she gets her visa too!!!!

Keep the faith, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

BTW - for those not aware of it, I built a website to track the AP@NVC statistics. You can see it by clicking the link at the bottom of my signature (below the scary messy commie thing, just ignore that :P ).

You may find it useful to track your progress.

Unfortunately it doesn't refresh automatically, I never got around to doing that.

So it needs to be refreshed manually. You can do so by going to http://apnvc.info/vjcron.pl . Your browser will spin for about 10 seconds, and then tell you it has a "500 Internal Server error". Just ignore that. Next time you go to the regular site http://apnvc.info, the statistics will have been updated.

I note that there are now only 14 names on the K1 "stuck" list <55 days (I ignore those over 55 days since they probably didn't fill in their timelines correctly).

And there are only 4 K3s "stuck".

This is much, much less than there was back in March when we had many more stuck people.

    Good luck all!

Woohooo!!!! Congratulations I'm so glad for you both after the long, long wait you had

    *fingers crossed* for Mike

  15. Wow, after a couple weeks of relative quiet it looks like more people are being put in NVC jail.

I just want to tell the newly imprisoned that you will survive even though it is so frustrating and disappointing at first. I was stuck 50 days - it was not fun ... But tomorrow I leave for the Philippines. I am going to my fiancee's interview on Tuesday and we hope to return together on July 4th. Its all worth it.

Just to follow up, we were approved on Tuesday and picked up the visa today (Thursday). They did not ask for any evidence of relationship at all since I was there.

The time spent at the NVC seems like a distant memory now ...

Hope everyone else's Journey goes as smoothly as ours has (after NVC that is).

    Congratulations! thats great news :)
