Went and had biometrics done yesterday. Very easy and painless. In the office at 10:00 and out by 10:35....now fingers are crossed that we simply receive the new card in the mail without an interview!!

We received our Biometrics appointment letter today! Hope it continues to move this quick!!

We received our NOA 1 today! The letter states that the green card expiration date has been extended a year, so when February comes along if we are still in this process we should be good. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back from CSC.

By the way.. I see your in SD too!! Then we'll probably have the same place for Biometrics.. are you planning to try a walk-in?

We'll probably have the biometrics at the USCIS Office in Chula Vista again. We'll probably avoid the walk-in and just wait for our appointment. That's one thing, nobody seems to like any deviation from the scheduled plan!!

Valerie received her green card yesterday!!! FINALLY, THE PROCESS IS OVER..........FOR NOW!!! Good luck everyone!! See ya back here in 21 months or so!!

Great news!!! Valerie was approved on Tuesday for her green card! She should receive it in the mail within the next two weeks! So happy that it is all over.....at least for 2 years! Interview was quick and painless. Our interview was scheduled at 9:00 a.m., and we were called in at 9:15. Interview ended at 9:25! The adjudication officer just looked over our paperwork, asked where we met and when we began living together. He then asked for her EAD card and said that she was approved. He didn't ask for ANY type of evidence regarding our relationship. We had bank statements, phone bills, insurance policies...etc. But, he didn't ask for any of them! Unreal! After, Valerie said, "Don't you even want to look at our wedding photo album?" He smiled and said, "I guess I have a few minutes." Kinda amusing. But, for us, it was as easy as could be. I know some people have a little bit of a tougher time than we had, but for everyone preparing for your interview...just relax, be yourself, and don't work yourself up by worrying. If you're marriage is legit and you've done everything the right way from the beginning, you have nothing to worry about! Good luck to everyone, and thank you for all of your input and support during our journey!

What's up everyone?! Haven't posted for awhile, but we've been keeping tabs on all of our fellow January '08 CSC Filers. Valerie received her EAD on Friday, January 23rd. It took 84 days to receive, and we also had an RFE. It's crazy how timelines can differ so drastically depending on where you live. I thought that maybe ours would be among the last ones to go through since we live in San Diego, but she has it. Exciting! We also have our AOS interview on February 24th! Won't be long! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear something. Things always have a tendency to happen when you least expect it.

We received an email today from CRIS stating that Val's EAD has been sent for card production! So hopefully she'll be getting that in the mail soon. With the interview on February 24, there isn't much time between the EAD and AOS, but regardless, it's awsome to finally see some movement and action with all of our stuff! Still have everyone who hasn't heard anything in our thoughts. Just hang in there. I think if there is anything all of us can take away from the whole "visa/adjustment journey", it's patience and appreciation.

We got it!!! Valerie received her notice for the initial interview for her AOS. Our interview is February 24th!!! We were shocked to see it in our mailbox last night, because we haven't received any type of updates or touches on USCIS' website. But, we're not complaining!! Just another reason to celebrate the new year!! Yeah! Good luck to all those still waiting to hear anything. EAD is next!!! Hopefully it's right behind.

What's up everyone. Great to see all of the October filers finally having some approvals come our way. We are currently "patiently" waiting to hear some kind of news regarding our AOS file. We received a RFE last month and immediately sent it back the next day with the requested document. According to USPS, it was delivered to Lee's Summitt, MO on 11/22/08....but still nothing. By looking through all of the timelines, it seems like the typical turnaround time from when the RFE is returned to when the case process is resumed is around 7 days. Has anyone had a similar exprerience of no coorespondance of over a month after returning their RFE? Val has already had her biometrics for both AOS and EAD.....just wish we'd hear something soon!!

Congrats to everyone who have been approved this week!! We can only imagine the joy that you all are feeling this close to the holidays!! We are hoping to hear some good news soon. The last touch we received was on the day of our EAD/AOS Biometrics appointment. But, the true frustration comes from the RFE we received back in November....I sent back the RFE two days later and it was received in Lee's Summitt on 11/19/2008....but STILL NO UPDATES ON USCIS!!! From looking at other timelines, it seems like once a RFE is sent back, the case typically resumes progress within a week of receiving it. But, ours still says on hold. Ugh!! Here's to hoping for miracles this Christmas! Too bad we don't live on 34th Street!!

Well got SS office done today with no troubles at all. They asked Gareth for permanent residence card and I said how we hadn't gotten to that step yet and that according to immigration website we didn't need that, just the visa/passport and marriage license. So she was all "oh ok" and typed up stuff and said we both would have our cards within next 10 days.

So here's hoping they both really show up! Changing all bank info over as well and then will go get my new drivers license next week sometime.

Then onto good ole AOS stuff.

Valerie went on October 23rd and took care of her SSN. Same thing here in San Diego. They zipped through the paperwork, had her sign, and said that it might be up to 4 weeks for her to get her card. But, here we are 5 weeks later, and nothing yet. Val called the SS Office, and they said that they haven't verified her immigration status yet. So who knows? We presented her passport w/visa and I-94, and our marriage certificate. Everything seemed like it was in order. We'll see.

In other news, we filed for AOS and EAD. We received an RFE on the EAD due to an outdated form, and we also received an RFE on the AOS because I only submitted my W-2's. I guess they also needed my actual tax return. Needless to say, both were sent back and received, so hopefully our process will resume shortly. Valerie had her biometrics done on the 18th, and they were able to take care of both EAD and AOS at the same time, despite different appointment dates. I guess some things do work out in our favor!

Hawkeye, I am just really working on the citizenship for a crack at a new program in the US Army that expedites training for qualified special forces applicants called 18x.

There may be a few other benefits when creating a biz or something similar, but again, that endless tax is the primary issue/concern.

Beantownbabe, thanks for the good wishes. Yet again, nothing in my mailbox. ;( I wouldn't be so upset about it but to see you all getting yours in 3-4-5 days and I am going on 10, just makes me wonder. I was reading another thread and someone said they're wife hadn't got her Biometrics letter for 3 months. I can't believe that. It that happens to me I'll go nutzo.

Like I said yesterday, there is always tomorrow.

Oh...gotchya TonyDanza. I'm going to look into it further in case we have kids or other such nonsense....but until then I'll just keep the greencard.

Got my biometrics done this morning. They were able to do both the EAD and AOS prints even though my EAD appointment wasn't until next month. It was really busy and they were less than friendly to say the least, but all went smoothly.

Thanks for the uplift. I am feeling like I should get my biometric letter tomorrow but who knows. I am going to do the walk in, and if you say the afternoon (for Boston) is a better time to try, then the afternoon it is! Maybe 1 or 2 ish?

I didn't know that the RFE and Biometrics letter were independent of one another. I foolishly thought it was a whole linear process, where one delay caused others.

Another interesting fact which I have just learned and is applicable to all if not most people here...

If you are let's say Canadian as I am, you can leave Canada to reside in another country and claim yourself as a non-resident. If you meet all the requirements, you effectively retain your Canadian citizenship, without benefits say health care, and you are exempt from paying your income tax. This is different than the foreign gains, or foreign income law.

This is not true with the US. So once we all accomplish our dreams of finally becoming US citizens, we are in effect financially glued to the state for ever. So if me and my wife were to move back to Canada, or Britain, or anywhere for that matter, we would always be paying our taxes in the US. Just thought it was one of the few negatives to becoming American when other than that, all I see is positives. Interesting.

I'm curious as to why you are anxious for citizenship? I just can't see any advantages except the ability to vote and obtain federal law enforcement positions. What do you think? At this point I'm planning on keeping my green card until I'm convinced it's worth it for me to give up Canadian citizenship. Any insight?

Ugh!! Just when I thought everything was moving smooth....our case status on USCIS says that they sent out an RFE on 11/10/08!! Unreal! Anyone have any idea what it could be? I was sure everything was sent in. I don't know. We even received our NOA 1's for both AOS and EAD, and Val's biometrics is scheduled for Tuesday 11/18. I guess we won't know for sure until we actually receive the RFE in the mail. Wish us luck!

It's amazing how three little letters fill someone with so much dread! R-F-E, ugh! Good luck with it and hopefully it's something minor.

So true! Thanks for the support. All is well. We were just missing one income tax paper which was an oversight on our part. Justin sent it in today, could be there tomorrow but Wed at the latest...not too much harm done.
