  1. Thanks so much for reading. You make a great point, it didn't NOT WORK per se. It just hasn't worked YET. But given our tight timeline, it might not materialise before July 2026. We only did the congressional inquiry + ombudsman a few weeks ago, when we realised there was a risk of it falling through. I'm sure eventually they'll get back to us. But with our work, it was incredibly hard to ask for leave + plan a trip like this. It took >1 year of coordination to make sure we get time off work and my work was properly handed over, hence the disappointment that they haven't followed through on their suggested solution. I guess it may well have been a change of personnel in the N600 team (USCIS LACFO), and whoever is there now may simply view this as non-viable and not feel a strong urge to inform us about it. I'm sure they are overwhelmed. If you have any suggestions at all, we welcome it. Thanks for your time and engagement anyways - LC
  2. Thanks so much for reading - Applied too early = We applied in July 2025, but we could only go in July 2026 (12mo later). To keep the case administratively open, they required us to go before Dec 2025. Hence why they suggested this close + reopen solution if we indeed wanted an interview July 2026. USC parent residency time = Parent had 10+ years in US after age 14 (provable) and met the threshold. Appreciate the great questions, if you have any suggestions, would love to hear it. BW LC
  3. Thanks for your reply. Yeah we considered this for the future. Hope you can understand our frustration, because we did everything down to the T of what they asked, and now they ghosted us. You are right though, that's our legal recourse if it really falls through. Thanks for reading our story though, appreciate the feedback
  4. Hi all — posting in case anyone has had a similar experience with N-600K and the USCIS LA County Field Office (USCIS LACFO). ====== < PART 1 - OVERVIEW > In July 2025, we filed two N-600Ks for my kids (4yo / 1yo), who were born abroad to the US parent. At the time, they reviewed all our docs, and told us it looked great, the case was strong, no RFE needed, with only the interview as the last step. Problem - We applied too early, and we couldn't attend the interview for another 12 months (i.e. July 2026). ===== < PART 2 - Request to Motion to Re-open Case without Fee later > In 2025, the USCIS LACFO proposed a plan via email - 1. Close both cases via i797c (on basis of failure to appear within 90 days) 2. Email them again in April 2026, and they will promptly schedule an interview for us in July 2026 (i.e. within 90 days of appearing). They called it a Request a Motion to Reopen without Fee, and they assured us they did this all the time and works well, (+ specifically told us not to file any other forms (e.g. I-290B), as this route is more than sufficient. We decided to book flights / hotels well in advance (1/2026) for the July Trip (w travelling first time w toddlers >12hrs, we wanted to plan things super well). Just before we paid, we cleared with them, the USCIS LACFO said YES, GO AHEAD and book it. Your July interview is safe with us. ===== < PART 3 - 2026 USCIS Non-Responses > So we followed exactly what they told us to do. We emailed multiple times April - May 2026 to request reopening, but sadly the USCIS LA County Field Office has gone radio silent. In contrast, in 2025, they were super responsive (reply within 2 days). It may have lulled us into a false sense of security, together with their strong wording about how sure they were this is going to work. Today, still NO WORD from USCIS LACFO about if they got any of our April - May 2026 emails, and NO INTERVIEW DATE in hand. ===== < PART 4 - Closing > At this point, we need to fly very soon for July 2026, but we still have no interview date, and we honestly do not know what to do next. We have already tried: Multiple follow-up emails to the field office DHL a handwritten letter to USCIS LAC FO (N600 team) for a reply USCIS Contact Center multiple times (still awaiting tier 2 call) Congressional inquiry DHS Ombudsman inquiry Nothing has worked. ==== If anyone has gone through something similar, especially with N-600K or the USCIS LA County Field Office, I’d really appreciate hearing from you. A) Past experiences - Has anyone had N-600K cases reopened this way by email with the field office? B ) Non-Response - And if the field office stopped responding, was there anything that actually helped? === Thank you so much in advance. Appreciate any and all input or suggestions at this point. - LC
