  1. My uncle wants to try and co-sponsor my husband for his AOS.

100% of his income is under his corporation. He is self employed and "had to incorporate to reduce [his] tax burdens (self-employment tax, etc.). [His] income is run through [his] corporation only."

Would he still be able to be a "good" co-sponsor? What additional forms should we include?

I know it says that corporations cannot be sponsors but I'm not exactly sure what that means legally in our case.

  2. "What type of hardhearted person laughs and chastises someone in such a manner the night before the person asking questions is getting married"

An older person who has already had relationships that didn't work because of lack of money worries.

Doesn't help to have family that doesn't approve also!!

Brain is just starting to kick in at 19!

Oh your relationships failed because of lack of money worries? You require money worries to have a good relationship, eh?

My family and I were already estranged, we reached out to my father for the marriage alone.

Clearly the brain doesn't kick in at nineteen for everyone, some people seem to have them missing.

Also, you shouldn't reply to threads just to be a jerk. If you have nothing helpful to say, why reply? To troll? To twist the screw?

  3. 2K won't pay for dogfood.

    No money! No honey!

    Pops is right.

Also you have no idea why my father doesn't approve of our marriage now so I really don't appreciate your assumption. What type of hardhearted person laughs and chastises someone in such a manner the night before the person asking questions is getting married?! We all had to go through long hard ordeals to be with our loved ones, I wouldn't expect such venom from someone on here.

  4. Anyone can be a co-sponsor, not only a family member. Begin to talk with friends and other family members to find a co-sponsor.

What is your current annualized income? That is what is most important.

I haven't ever had to fill taxes on my own (20 years old, full time student, make less than 10k at a job with flexible hours). This spring and summer I had 14 hours, this fall I'll only have 7. Quick math puts me at 3818.40$ annually.

Ask someone else to be your co-sponsor.

We have no one else, absolutely no one. He was our last resort the first time we had to do this. Can I not reuse the same forms?

We have 8k saved up to make it until my husband can get a job, but thanks for your support and kind words. :) I thought visajourney had some conduct rules but I guess not.

  5. When we applied for our K-1 Visa my dad was a co-sponsor for the affidavit of support. My father now does not support the fact that we are getting married and will definitely not agree to sign this form or provide his information again.

What are we supposed to do?

If we send in the information again then we definitely will not be approved because I only made 2k in the past year.

Will they deport him even after we've gone through all of this to get married the "right" way in the eyes of US law?

We're getting married tomorrow and I'm so overwhelmed by the idea of having to do another I-864, wasn't it enough the first time?!

  7. I can't believe that no one has mentioned Caramilk, that stuff is like liquid gold, I swear. Apparently the Benson and Hedges smokes here are god awful, although I think the ones in Canada are pretty rank too.

We can get caramilk here...many cadbury bars actually (central Florida).

I actually meant Caramilk milk, left out one milk.

  8. To distract myself from not freaking out I read your grocery list and we totally have several of those things listed as not in the US here in Texas.

:thumbs: Maybe let us know which items. Here's the link. Where it gets tricky is that some items are available in the US but they use different ingredients in the processing. Like Coke and ketchup and chocolate bars and things like that. But it would definitely be helpful if you know where some items are available. :)

Unsweetened Shredded Coconut: central market, whole foods, HEB (sometimes)

Kinder Surprise Eggs: around easter they're at central market and whole foods sometimes.

KitKat: everywhere? Asian markets usually have the "different" flavors, in Austin we have MK Supermarket that carries the green tea flavor.

Smarties: World Market, Central Market (sometimes), Whole Foods. World Market almost always has them.

Cookies, Oreos: All over, but again Asian Markets tend to have the different flavors.

Jello, Cranberry: this shows up in fall/winter in Safeway stores (Tom Thumb/Randalls/Safeway). I've seen it at MK Supermarket once as well.

Tim Horton's: There are several Timmies locations in the US, they just aren't as good lol

Coke: Mexican coke and Canadian coke should be the same thing (no HFCS, right?) Safeway stores, Fiesta Mart, Central Market, and Whole Foods all carry that.

C-Plus: A comparable would be Sunkist, C-Plus is just a decaf version IIRC. Sunkist is all over the place, it is fairly popular.

Cheese Whiz: This is at safeway stores for sure.

Rice, Uncle Ben's: Safeway stores & HEB have these.

Cheese Nips: Safeway stores, HEB...anywhere really, maybe this is an ingredient change one?

Colgate Total: CVS has this, if you need a fluoride toothpaste over 1.1% you have to get it from the DR though.

You forgot Bacon and Sour Cream flavored ruffles on your list, as well as Fruitopia, and Rolo/Caramilk/Coffee Crisp flavored milk ;-; The closest thing to fruitopia still in the US would probably be the Arizona brand fruit punch that comes in a can.

  9. No worries. He can go to the appointment and explain the situation and they will hold his file until he can drop it back off to them.

Thanks so much for your info. It is nice to have someone who has gone through this part already in Canada, I appreciate everyone else's answers too though :) Maybe I'll be super lucky and even get a response from someone who did the same thing, lol.

  10. My fiance is already on the train to Montreal from Windsor and he realized a few hours into the ride that he accidentally left the medical at home. His mother is mailing it ultra express or NextAM, and we're hoping to get a confirmation of the possible arrival time soon but if it doesn't get there by the time he needs to leave for the interview tomorrow...

Would it be possible for him to bring it back to them later the same day, or on the next day?

    What should we do?

We're both worried now that this will likely ruin everything we've worked for. :crying:

  11. Hello, hello everyone!!!

I got my Appointment Letter today! I'm extremely excited and happy about this, because I'll finally be able to start life with my Ashley, just as soon as I get approved and finish packing! However, this happiness is not absolutely worry free.

My fiancee unfortunately has to move to a new apartment on 02 February 2009. (Her last place flooded for the third time and she just had enough of the horrible management at her current location. Not once did they cover any of the damages they've caused with their inability to fix and replace extremely old and worn piping. However, she managed to get out of her contract without having to pay the last few months.) So shortly, she had to change her address out of an emergency.

This creates an issue though that I simply don't know how to solve. My appointment is scheduled for 08 April 2009. (Got an extremely short notice for the appointment. Sent it in on 19 February, Embassy dated the Appointment Letter on 25 March, letter arrived on 31 March.) I'm all over the place, torn between my regular school, helping my fiancee out with the move, rushing with a hotel room and travel arrangements, and now the realization that I have no idea how to handle her address change on such short notice.

Should I not mention her address change and fill out my DS-156 with her old address?

What if she sends me a signed letter that provides her new address and apologizes for the inconvenience of an address change at the last minute?

Perhaps ask for a new appointment date and notice them of the address change in the extended time frame? (Is it even possible for me to request an appointment rescheduling on such short notice?)

Thank you all in advance for any advice on this, I truly appreciate any help with the topic!!!

  12. In my personal opinion and experience, it is better to do it ahead of time.

I did my medical in Toronto through Dr Seiden on a Wednesday. They were dynamic, speedy, and well organized. I nearly managed to get the entire thing done in an hour, but I had one tiny problem with my immunization records. One of the required shots for my age was not present on either documents, so I had to fax them back a confirmation document that proofed my vaccination, along with their request document signed by the examining doctor as a cover letter. My local Health Unit was extremely speedy with issuing me a new health record, (they are yellow tiny cards here in Ontario,) and I could have even picked it up and faxed it the same day as my medical... but the Windsor - Toronto - Windsor trip was killer haha. I picked it up and faxed it the following day, also called Dr Seiden's office and left a message on their answering machine, requesting a confirmation for my fax's arrival. The receptionist called me back on Friday of the same week, telling me that they got it and my package will be arriving the following Monday... and it did!

So yeah, if you manage to not bring absolutely complete documents, (like me,) it is better to do it early than be sorry afterward.

If you do decide to do it in the same time frame, do make sure that you have all your records complete, and bring more than they ask!

  13. Here is what most people submit and have great success with.

    • Letter of Employment (if you can get it, not all employers will do this).
    • Pay stubs - as many as possible (not just 3)
    • Most recent Income Tax Return (including supporting documents such as W-2, 1099 etc) (Or an IRS Transcript which can be ordered for free and don't require supporting documents such as W-2, 1099 etc). Even if you're not self-employed.

The idea is to send as much evidence to support your income claim - not to send as little as possible.

What do you do if your most recent pay stubs are serious chump change <_>? I'm talking less than 100$ each here.

  14. We've written this letter;

    To whom it may concern,

xxxx (your spouse name) has been employed xxx (full-time or part time) with the XXXX (company name) since XXXXX (date) as a xxxx (job title) and is an employee in good standing with an annual salary of $XXXX.

    Signature of employer,

    name of employer

    title of employer

important! The letter should be on company letterhead..

Aw gosh, he just sent the letter in a doc, I should probably ask if it's possible for him to print it on company letterhead. I work for a community college so I don't know if we even have official company letterhead available for our little tutoring lab. :(
