  1. VJ NAME-------Airline----Flight Schedule---Flight #---Departure---POE-----Destinatio

hi shape, please add my flight details too..thanks a lot!

    iamincognito ---- PAL ---- nov.11 ---- PR102 ---- 11pm --- LAX ---Durham, NC

  2. congratulations on getting your visa. i am sure you are excited like heck, like i was a few years ago. an advice i can give you is to spend a lot of time with your friends and family, make each day count, build lasting memories and eat a lot of your favorite filipino food...although if you're going to live in LA, they have a lot of filipino restaurants anyway.

make sure you bring extra copies of your birth certificate, your college transcript and diploma. leave some blank sheets of paper with your signature at the bottom, in case your mom needs it for something (my mom used it to get my tax rebate and close my credit card account).

i'll be eventually settling in jersey. LA is my POE, and my destination is in Durham,NC (with my fiance's family) until my fiance arrives in the states on january after his current deployment.. thanks a lot for the other tips though!

  3. thanks! i was able to find the site for the vaccination in the US by the civil surgeon, only costs $10-20. have to verify on this. i decided not to get my 2nd shot of MMR here because the last tym i did (during the medical), i had the measles after 2 weeks even though i already had measles during childhood.. weird.

    God bless,

    Irene

i am feeling the same way right now. i'm leaving on november. i intended to leave on january because by nov, my fiance will still be at russia for his deployment. but sad to say, the expiration date of my visa is until nov 15. so i have to leave by nov 11.

i cry almost every night because i feel sad that i am leaving my fam esp my 10 year old sister whom i am very attached to. and my dad left for work (abroad too) last september so that's the last time i saw him until the time i come back here in pinas after a few years in the states.

i'm happy that i am finally bound for the US but at the same time i feel very sad.

  5. hi everyone.. at last i am leaving for the US on november 11 via PAL to LA. i have few questions on my mind though..

    1. VACCINATION

i had my vaccination last august(during the medical) and i was advised to have another shot of the MMR after 2 months (that's by the end of october).. do i have to get the shot or i can just do it in the states??

    2. CFO

does the new NAIA (w/c has the PAL flights) have a CFO booth?

    3. BAGGAGE

how much is the baggage limit for PAL? i intend to bring me one suitcase and one carry on only.

and if there are any more things you would like to share with me about traveling to the US the first time, it would be a lot of help! or maybe there are some of you who'll be leaving on the same date as mine, that would be great!

    thanks everybody!

  6. if u want a hotel that is ACTUALLY near the embassy, you should try out SORIENTO. only 15-20 steps away from the embassy. it's a very simple hotel but very convenient. the outside part looks old but the rooms are decent enough, because they just renovated them. i was there last may. my parents and i got a room with two beds (with a lot of space too!) and we only paid 1800/night.

but i tell you soriento is the most accessible hotel near st lukes. u may just have to eat at robinsons though because soriento only provides rooms.. but if u intend to fall in line at slec at 4am, then this is your best bet.

    btw, here's is soriento's number: (02)5239480

  7. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FLT..

    here's the address:

Good shepherd Convent, 1043 aurora blvd. 1108 Quezon City (it is infront of PSBA QC)

thanks a lot. i just found their number and called them. my queries have been answered!

  8. hi everyone!

does anybody have a complete address on the place where i can get the CFO sticker? and what are the things that i need? i intend to go there at the morning because my flight is on 10pm pa naman.. or do i have to go there a day before my flight? thanks!

  9. Thank you all for your response. Naiyak ako but then again, wala na akong magagawa and all the wedding plans will have to rescheduled from December until summer next year. I just feel so weak now that all the holiday plans will be cancelled. Unfortunately, I will need 4 weeks pa before I can resign from my current job, of course, I dont want to burn bridges so I need a graceful exit before I leave the Philippines :)

Anyway, it took me a few hours to dwell on this sad fate and now I have accepted it. Salamat sa advice, it really helps!

    Regards,

    LMY

i just saw your post on my medical woes topic.. after 3 days of sputum exam, you will have to wait for 2 months upon the release of the results of your sputum exam. but don't worry, once it is all clear, st. lukes will be the one to schedule for your interview, that is 2 days after you have completed your medical exam..

that has one advantage though, the embassy will not be as crowded as the usual days. the only interviewees on that date will be all of the applicants who experienced delays due to their med exam..

    good luck. stay healthy.

  10. my fiance just got our MNL case number, what to do next? how long it will take before they forward our case at the USEM?

    Thanks VJs!!!

if you're one of the extra excited ones  , you can already schedule yourself for an interview. or you can let your fiance do the scheduling for you through a 1-900 number in the US. he can purchase a PIN that is about $18 and good for 3 calls, whatever the length of the calls. then after confirming an interview appointment, they will email a copy of that appointment. you can show that copy at the entrance of st. lukes and tell them you want to have an early medical.

CLICK THIS LINK, IT WILL HELP YOU A LOT.

    good luck! God bless =)

  11. Welcome, welcome!

Check here to find the SS office near you. Your fiance will most likely know where it is. You can also download the form beforehand. You will probably not be able to get a driver's license until you have either your EAD or your GC. NC-DMV requires proof of immigration status but they will not accept the NOA. Perhaps you can try with your I-94 and see if they will issue a DL even if it expires in a few months.

Good luck and welcome again. We have a growing number of Filipinas coming to NC and a lot are in the Durham/Raleigh/Cary area.

i intend to get my SSN and DL in my maiden name because my fiance will not be able to get back to the states until january because of his current deployment. so i am bound to stay at NC from nov until january.. so will i be able to process my SSN and DL just by showing them my visa?

  12. i just got my visa, but the problem is they only gave me nov 15, 2008 as expiration date.originally, we both planned that i should leave on january because that will be the time that my fiance is done with his deployment. but because of this new development, we had to change plans and act fast!

so we are planning my flight on nov 11, then my inlaws would be the one picking me up at the airport. will i be able to file for an SSN, get a driver's license in my maiden name while waiting for my fiance to arrive at the states?? any help or tips are highly appreciated.. thank you!

  13. thanks for the replies. I have found a travel agency that gives reasonable price even if there's no first time immigrant discount....i will get that one. thanks every1

Thanks for the reply honeybadger...did you call embassy? what are you doing now to keep you busy while waiting for this visa delivery?

Keep me posted! Thanks for the reply...

we have the same predicament! i was interviewed last aug 29, and i am still waiting for my visa. last sept 4 delbros texted me that in 2-3 days my visa will arrive but it still hasnt arrived yet!
