  1. Hello December Filers! Hoping you can help me... my brother and his fiancee filed their I-129F at the end of November and their NOA1 is dated December 5, 2011. They still have had no action on their case, no RFE, no approval, NOTHING! When my husband and I did our paperwork back in 2007-2008 it only took 3 months from NOA1 to get our N0A2. Is anyone else having this problem that they have heard nothing? I appreciate any input! :star:

  2. Hey there! Any advice you can give me on my question would be much appreciated. I loved feedback from members when I was first going through the K1 process with my husband and now I would love for some more feedback! Here goes...

My brother, who is a US citizen, has been dating a girl from Bulgaria. They met last summer when she was here in the US on a J-1 Visa. She went home in the fall and of course they are missing each other like crazy. We were lucky to spend the Christmas Holiday in Jamaica with my husband's family where she was able to join us. In order for her to fly from Bulgaria to Jamaica she needed to fly through the US so she was given a 1 year Tourist Visa. At this time she is planning on coming back this summer on another J-1 Visa. My question is, since their relationship is quite serious and they are talking about marriage, is their best option for her to come and work the summer on the J-1 and then return to Bulgaria and file a K-1 or is it possible for them to marry this summer while she is here on the J-1 and then file some kind of paper work to adjust her status? If something goes wrong with her J-1 Visa for this summer if she came on the Tourist Visa can she marry while she is here?

Thanks for your help. I am all over the K-1 situation but am completely lost when it comes to the work and tourist visas and how they factor in.

  4. Hey Yardies!

I am looking for some info on obtaining a Tourist Visa for my husbands sister (11 yrs) and brother (15 yrs) for next summer-ish. I have looked at the Department of State website and the Jamaican US Embassy Site and it looks fairly simple, but I am thinking perhaps it is not as simple as it looks. I was looking around the VJ site and couldn't find anything, so if someone has an advice or experience with Tourist Visas I would greatly appreciate any advice you may have! :star:

  5. Thanks for all the info! I started this process about 6 months ago and dropped the ball... and not for any good reason... I think I was just sick of paperwork! I was reading your list of required docs and I did not realize that copies of passport records were required, I thought it was just a notarized photo copy of the passport. Good thing you are so into the paperwork!

  6. When we had our interview I wore black capri pants with cute sandals and a nice top. I knew we were going to be waiting outside for some time so I didn't want to wear pants and get hot but I knew shorts were a no no, so I went the capris. Most people were dressed more on the professional side. When I was getting ready to go one of the ladies on here gave me the advice to look at it like a job interview, wear what you would wear to a job interview. And plus, being overdressed is never a bad thing!

  7. My husband had his medical last July at MoBay Hope and after the doctor examined his immunization records he needed to have an MMR and a Tetnus shot which including the medical exam it cost him about $12,000J. He had already had the chicken pox and told the doctor that so they did not require him to have the chicken pox vaccine.

  8. Since you are married to a Jamaican citizen you are entitled to be a Jamaican Citizen through that marriage. If you go to any Jamaican Consulate's webpage it will tell you as such. Different ones serve different areas of the US, the one in new York serves my state, their website it http://www.congenjamaica-ny.org/ so you would just need to find the one that serves your area. I know there is one in Chicago and Miami. If you go the New York Consulates webpage as an example they tell you to apply for citizenship you need the citizenship application (which I had to mail them a self addressed envelope to receive) notarized copies of your and your husbands birth certificates & current passports, copy of marriage certificate, a police record, and two passport sized photos. The application costs J$7,000 which is like $80US so compared to what we have paid for our husbands we get out cheap! I am sending in the paperwork shortly for myself so if I have any updates I will let you know. I have been talking to a woman at the Consulate in New York and she told me once I git my certificate of citizenship I can apply for a Jamaican passport. PM me is you have any other questions.

Are you planning a write a letter stating why you should receive citizenship? I looked on the New York and D.C. embassy websites and the NY office mentions writing a letter (Letter to the Minister of National Security and Justice requesting registration as a Citizen of Jamaica) and D.C. doesn't.

It's a little confusing especially if they offices aren't consistent.

I did write the letter simply stating that since I was married to a Jamaican Citizen I was allowed citizenship and that I wanted to obtain the citizenship since my husband had made the move from his county to mine I wanted to be involved with his country as well (I phrased it a lot better in the letter I promise!)

  10. I think we are going to take the tags off and pack them in our own suitcases. I am going to be nervous as heck going through customs... I was always a bad liar! My husband thinks the barrel is still the way to go and I'm like, honey if you want to pay for it be my guest, but I am sure he will come around to our way of thinking! Thanks again for the advice...

    ~Alissa

  11. All he wants to do is bring home clothes primarily for his siters and brothers so I am tempted to just pack them in our suitcases... but when we are leaving the aiport and going through customs they will probably search our bags and then want to charge us... does anyone know how much charges are?

  12. So I know we have probably been over this somewhere before but I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for...

My husband and I are going to be going back to JA in October, this is going to be his first visit home since he came here last August and he wants to bring some gifts (clothes, shoes, etc) for his family plus all the clothes he has bought here that he wants to get tailored which he will then bring home to the US. We were thinking of using a shipping company and getting a barrel shipped but after some VJ research I can't seem to find any good posts regarding barrels so now I am hesitant. The other thing I am now worried about is additional costs at customs... even though these items would be gifts for family members (and NOT for resale) would they still charge us to bring them into the country? I have never done anything like this before so I am not sure how it works. I am assuming just packing these items into our suitcases and each of us bringing like two suitcases would not be a good idea cause I am sure they would go through the suitcases at customs since he is a returning resident and charge us anyway.

Any advice anyone has is much appreciated!

    Thanks!

  13. Just wanted to let everyone know that my husband and I had our AOS interview today in Boston and we were approved.

We got to the office at 8am for our 8:30 appointment and there were only a few people there at that time. We were called in at about 8:40am. When we got into the office he swore us in and then opened our file (HOLY ####### it was HUGE!!!) and started going through papers and writing and stamping things. Then he asked for his passport and social security card, my ID or passport, and his EAD. He looked at both our IDs, stapled his EAD inside the file, and then removed the I-94 from the passport and stapled it inside the file (As soon as he removed the I-94 I knew we were good!). Then he took his passport and wrote on the page where the I-94 was, below the entry stamp. The interviewer asked me to confirm my husbands name and how we met. Then he asked my husband all the usual "NO" questions. He also asked if he was working yet, which we said no that he has an interview later this week. When we told him that he asked if the employer had seen the EAD yet which they have not so he gave us back the EAD and told us to mail back the card once we receive the Green Card in the mail. He said that we were approved and the card would arrive in the mail in the next two weeks. He explained how to remove the conditions. I then asked him if he wanted any of the evidence I had brought with me and he didn't really seem to want it and said he would add it to the file. When I brought out all the evidence (which was at least an inch ad a half thick) you should have seen the look on his face! :innocent: I told him I was over prepared! He took it all but didn't even look at it. He also never mentioned anything about the TB skin text, which we had done and was ready to submit. I can not believe how easy this was. He had stamped and signed everything before he even asked us a single question! We were back to the waiting room by 8:50am and were told to wait for a couple minutes and we would be given a letter stating that we were approved. Once we had the letter in hand we were out of the office by 9am and headed home for a nap!!

  14. I have my interview next week and on the interview notice it says "If your eligibility is based on your marriage, your husband or wife must come with you to the interview". However down at the bottom, it also says "If an emergency, such as your own illness or a close relative's hospitalization, prevents you from appearing, call the US Citizenship and Immigration Services National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 as soon as possible. Please be advised that rescheduling will delay processing of application/petition, and may require some steps to be repeated. It may also affect your eligibility for other immigration benefits while this application is pending". So good news, they tell you to call the number to reschedule, but bad news because it will delay your application. Another thing to keep in mind, is that if your case is transferred to the California Service Center (CSC) you will most likely not have an interview. I sent my application in Decemeber and out of the December filers, I'd say about half were transferred while the other half have interviews. I am one of the lucky ones with the interview! I wouldn't stress about it now, with any luck you won't have an interview at all. Wish you all the best... and by the way we got married on the same day! (L)

  15. Thanks everyone for your help. We are going to the Medical Center tomorrow, where the CS is, to get the skin test done. Our health insurance is going to cover the test! Woo Hoo! I am paranoid too and I want all of this to do down without a problem... I am know I am not the only one who is sick of paperwork! I am hoping for one of two things, #1 that his skin test is negative or #2 that the Immigration Officer doesn't notice the TB skin result is missing from the I-693 and doesn't ask for it. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me!
