  1. I am in the process of filing my I-485. My son is sponsoring my green card. In my birth certificate, my last name is mentioned only with initials (first letter of my last name). This is a common practice where I born, the last name will not be expanded in the birth and school certificates. In my passport and also in all my visa documents, my last name is expanded. My questions are: 1. Will this be considered as a name mismatch because my birth certificate has only the initials of my last name? 2. What can be the potential fix for this situation? Cani add my name with initials in the alternate name section? Should I give an affidavit that both the names are the same? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  3. Thanks. The SSA statement has the payment history and he downloaded that. Thank you, we will write cover letter with the specifics.
  4. I am in the process of concurrent filing of I130 and I485 for my father. I am 21 year old USC, sponsoring greencard for my father. My father already got 40 social security credits through his legal work in USA. Thanks to this forum, I got lot of inputs on the documention for I864 waiver through 40 social security credits. Here are the documents my father has to support the waiver - Social security statement Benefit verification letter Cover letter He was on L1B visa for 4 years between 2001-2005 and then on L1A from 2015-2022. He is in USA now through L1A visa since Feb 2025. He do not have all the old visa documents, but he was able to get IRS wage and income transcript from 2015 onwards. Considering this scenario, what should be the additional documents to prove the 40 social security credits? Really appreciate all your inputs.
  5. Thank you. Will it add more merits to the application if I have my father provide the financial information besides the 40 work credits? I am just trying to check if there will be a situation where the i864 waiver may impact the outcome. Any experiences or observations on this?
  6. Thank you for the quick response. I believe i864 is for affidavit of support, but as I mentioned earlier I am a college student and don't have a large income to show. My father is working in US and has 40 work credits. My primary residence is the same as my father's. Can I just use 40 work credits alone and waive off the affidavit of support or can I have him provide the evidence of support or both? Please advise.
  7. I am a US citizen, I will turn 21 in another few months. I am currently studying in college. I would like to sponsor my father's greencard, he is currently in US and on L1B visa. My father is from India, but I read that there is no wait time for immediate relatives so I believe I can file i130 AND i485 together. Also, my father already have 40 work credits from social security, so I think I can be exempted from financial sponsorship evidences. Need guidance and support from experts in this group on my assumptions and the next steps. Thank you all for your help.
