  1. I keep ready bits and pieces of the US embassy in Bangkok not issuing K-1 visas dealing with co-sponsorship on AOS. Is this true? We have a pending interview in April. Does anyone have any real information on this issue? If it is the State Dept., how can some embassies play by their rules and disregard others? Thanks. RexT

  2. We have a pending interview coming up in April and I am wondering if the 2007 (for 2008 gathered documents) tax returns and other co-sponsor related documentation will be suffice or could/would they want the 2008, now that it will be April 09? Sounds confusing, but we are dealing with IRS one year prior. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance....RexT

  3. The Bangkok Consulate has an updated Packet 3 Checklist that is not yet on their website. There are a few signficant changes, such as sending in all forms and most evidence.

I am attaching the English version in hopes it will help all those who want to get a head start on getting Packet 3 together.

So when did this come about? I have every thing together for the older protocol. I am hoping I have all we need, as our interview is coming up fast (I hope, again). Thanks for the update....RexT

  4. This is Nathaya’s minute by minute recap of her US Embassy K1 Visa interview in Bangkok, Thailand on 3/19/2009. Her interview was approximately 5 minutes in length. She waited approximately 1 hour before her name was called. Three other Thai women were interviewed before her, each one leaving with their passports (not a good sign). After her name was called, she approached window number 5 and the following illustrates her interview:

The Embassy Interviewer (E.I.) gave instructions to Nathaya to scan each of her hands/fingers on the electronic scanner for identity authentication.

The E.I. then gave Nathaya a compliment about her hands after she finished with her digital fingerprints. (She had just freshly manicured and painted her finger nails)!

    What is your name?
    ” the E.I. asked.

    “Nathaya,
    ” she replied.“

    "
    Is your Fiancé’s name, Christopher?
    ” the E.I. asked.

    Yes
    ”, she answered.

    "
    What do you call him?
    "

    I call him, honey
    ”.

    Ok, I’ll call him Chris,
” the E.I. stated as they both chuckle.

When was his first trip to Thailand?
    ” he asked.

His first trip was in May of last year
    ”, she responded.

How many times has he come to Thailand?

    3 times so far
    ”, Nathaya replies.

The E.I. then opens up a small photo album that Nathaya prepared. It contained pictures of recent trips and photo moments of places we visited together.

Was this picture taken at the tiger temple in Kanchanaburi Province?
” the E.I. asked as he pointed to a photo of us at the Tiger Zoo in Chonburi Province.

No, it was taken at Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Chonburi.

Was this photo taken in Phuket?
” he asked as he pointed to another photo of us in at a viewpoint near Kata Beach.

    Yes, in Phuket
    ” she replied.

Where did you take this photo?
” his 3rd and final question of the picture album.

It was taken in Cambodia at Angkor Wat.
    ” Nathaya answered.

Have you traveled to the states before?
    ” the E.I. asked.

    Yes, to visit my friend,
” she replied. (Nathaya did in fact visit her friend for a short time on a tourist visa last November before visiting me).

His response as he smiled was: “
Why don’t you just say that you visited your fiancé too?!

    Her response then was, “
I visited my friend before I spent the Thanksgiving holiday with my fiancé’s family.

When will you get married in the states?
    ” the E.I. then asked.

Soon after I arrive, probably in the first two weeks.

    Well, congratulations!
    ” he said!”

    Who is [ex-husband name]?
” he asked as he looked over her application.

    My ex-husband,
    ” she answered.

    Where does he live now?

    Up country in Lopburi province.

Have you ever stayed with your ex-husband where he lives now?
    ” the E.I. asked.

    Never,
” she expressed. Nathaya then offered up (on her own) that her husband was unfaithful, the reason for the divorce and the reason she never left Bangkok.

The E.I. then directs her to come back to the Embassy on Monday to pick up her Passport (with visa) at 3pm.

He finally says to her, “
You can pick up your paper work over at the other counter on your way out. Have a good day; Sawadee Krup!
    ” (goodbye in Thai)

    Nathaya replies with “
    Sawadee Ka!
”, picks up her packet of evidence and paper work and proceeds out the embassy doors.

It was that easy. Just as easy (if not easier) then getting her US Tourist Visa. I hope everyone has the same luck and patience we’ve have. Three pieces of advice I can give to this entire process is: 1. Make sure you dot all the “I’s” and cross all the “T’s”. 2. Collect your evidence of relationship wisely. And 3. use this website and forum as a resource and tool to help you through the process. It will lower your stress levels and prepare you for your next milestone. Good luck everyone. We now need to get started on our AOS (I-485) packet. ;)

Congratualtions...I am bitting my nails as we speak. Our case was sent to BKK embassy on the 11th of this month. I have not been able to verify it, but we at least got a case # from NVC and they said they sent it. After 78 days of USCIS sitting on our approved petition before sending it on NVC, I take what ever I am told with a grain of salt. I plan on going over and attending the interview if that is allowed. Again, congratulations on your journey thus far....RexT

  5. If anyone is freaking out because it has been way too long in between the time you receive your NOA2 and getting notification from NVC, and you have sent inquiries to NVC and still no record of it, call USCIS and be sure to ask the representatives to speak to an OFFICER. Reps will tell you anything, but the officers know exactly what is going on. It took me 10 times calling USCIS to finally get in touch with an officer and this was her advise.

I was approved on Dec. 22nd and still nothing from NVC. They are saying 30 to 45 working days sometimes, before NVC gets the paperwork....why the hell so long I would really like to know, but......half of the Reps told me that K-1 visas do not go to the NVC, but straight to the Embassies and that is a bunch of malarky. So make sure you get an Officer to place questions with. RexT

  6. I was assured that K-1 visas do not go to NVC, but straight to assigned Embassies. This fellow claimed that is the proceedure for the last several years that he has worked there. I hope it isn't smoke being blown in my direction, but has anyone else got this story from USCIS before? It is quite contrary to what I have read on this site, but hell, I don't know....our NOA2 was Dec 22nd and still haven't heard squat from anyone. Anyone else?????RexT

  7. I received our NOA2 back on Dec 22. I went to Thailand for a month to see my SO and was looking forward to seeing at what stage everything was in upon my return. When I called the number to NVC and went through all the automation, I got an answer of the NVC not having any record of our paperwork! It has been 39 days as of today, Jan 30, 2009. Even snail mail doesn't go this slow. I am wondering if it got lost or misplaced or what???? Anyone had this problem and is there anyway I can find out more about it? Thanks....RexT

  8. Thanks to all...I am just going to put in BOTH, since I already have the one notarized. That should cover it all I would hope. I wonder if VJ is aware and has updated any thing related to this new form? Again thank all of you for your input and I leave for Thailand, December 29...a couple of days from now. I know everything won't be in place for the interview while I am there, but I am taking everything with me to give to her for when that time does come. Happy New Year to all....RexT

  9. Has anyone noticed that the New I-134 Affidavit of Support form has changed (from the older one, especially the one I already had filled out) and nowhere is there to have it notarized? Does this mean it no longer needs to be notarized, but just signed and dated? Anyone with any information on this? Would greatly appreciate it to get this in order. I have received my NOA2 and will be taking the interview materials to Thailand in a week. Thanks in advance and happy holidaze to all. RexT

  10. I have a friend that will be a co-sponsor for me as I have been in graduate school for the past 3 years and have not worked much during that time. I have used the past year applying for positions in my field with no avail. I am sure that will change with the administration change, but not right away. Along with the notarized I-134 forms from the both of us, would it be prudent to include some form of a letter of intent from my friend being the co-sponsor? I have adequate savings and some assets, but have read that income is more of a determining factor in granting the visa. Thanks in advance for any advise on this issue. Rex

  11. We have our NOA2 but do any of you Thailand K1 people out there think there will be problems with precessing due to the current situation in Thailand? If the NVC sends our info to the Bangkok embassy by mail, will there be a big delay due to the airports being closed by the protestors in Bangkok? Just thought I would ask what anybody thinks about this!! Thanks!

I would not think that it would cause a delay with the mail...having said that, I sure am hoping it is all back to normal by the end of the month. I have a flight to BKK on the 29th and sure hope I can get there. I have had this ticket purchased since last May! I am still waiting on our NOA2 and the time line indicates a mid-December comb through. I have my fingers crossed. It would be great to be able to go to the interview with her, but I doubt if it goes that fast even if it is looked at in a couple of weeks. Good luck. Rex

  12. Does a co-sponsor have to fill out an I-134 form besides a letter of current employment? I know I have to fill out an I-134 to submit with the petition materials. On top of petitioning for a K-1 visa, I am also in the midst of trying to procure gainful employment after finishing a grauate degree and am not having much luck with it. I have adequate savings, but no immediate income so far. Any adivce would be greatly appreciated...and thanks in advance.

Thank you for the info. I see your interview is coming up in a couple of days...good luck with that. Rex
