  1. The dentist billing difference could be because your wife hadn't been to a cleaning, some places have a regular cleaning and an extra hard cleaning cause you been naughty and didn't show up for a year so there is more build up cleaning... but they call it something like deep cleansing or some other much shorter thing.

  2. Or Light as a last name... Candy Light... =D

i think initials are funny too my initials used to spell c.r.a.b now its going to be craa lol

My initials are DBK... or... DBJK if you count "Jovi"... I was convincing my nephew that my middle name was Bon Jovi or something... and when I said my full name I screwed up and said Brian... oops.

My wife on the other hand... CACK (Well, the A is from Ann and is technically part of her first name, but it's funnier this way). I think more people should get middle names with vowels for the first letter just for good initials. I want to name my first kid Freddrick, after our very own Fred, and the middle name Ulisies (sp?) after the character in night at the museum 2...

  3. If his last name was stripes... or caine... or land... or capped? (The last one is a slight stretch, but just imagine that you got married and it made you candy capped? You'd have to explain to everyone you meet that you were candy capped in a horrible marriage accident...). My wife's name is cherry so there is a lot of room for funny names there too (but my last name isn't tree... really... it's pretty hard to come up with a good way to mock my last name... down side is names with 8 or more letters mock you every time you have to write them).

  4. i'm having a problem here...when i try to add our aos files in our uscis account it doesnt recognize them, how long should we wait to do that?

You have three different numbers for AOS if you filed all the documents (the AOS, AP and EAD applications), each one can show up at different times. I think the AOS itself showed up pretty quick but EAD for example didn't show up until it was approved... I think the AOS showed up pretty much as soon as we had the receipt numbers but I could be wrong. In the march filers thread there were a lot of people who could only add 1 or 2 of the three numbers to their accounts, some could do them all and some couldn't see any... traditionally after going to the biometrics appointment a lot of people suddenly could enter their numbers, but I don't think that is a general rule of thumb now, like it used to be (based on reading the forum).

In short it's probably nothing to worry about to much, it's normal now for that kind of stuff not to work right...

  5. chnst: After reading this thread I have to wonder, how well do you know this girl? How certain are you that any of what she has told you is true? I've known a pathological liar or two in my time and honestly this just sounds like that. If her situation is truly as described, then she needs to be on these forums and providing direct answers to the questions, you just don't know enough of the details to get her the information she needs to have.

  6. The whole name change thing from a marriage is kind of weird... but from what I got basically, you could change your name to anything you want once you marry, it doesn't have to be in any way related to your current name or your husbands name, you just decide what your name is going to be and start using it, and notify a few places of the change like the dmv, etc. Marriage license = license to have a zany new name for women... men have to do some kind of court procedure to change their names... it sucks... but that's the breaks in life. Not changing your name shouldn't cause any problems, it's somewhat common these days.

  7. Thank you all for your replies...very kind of you..she has REALLY been going downhill emotionally since her father was sent to prison last month for 5 years..on..er...child porn charges...She was very close to him and really came unglued when he was arrested 2 years ago and sentenced last month..EVERYTHING pisses her off....

There are about a billion nightmares in that short paragraph of yours. I'll even go so far as to say that there is a very high chance your wife was abused as a child by her father and that's part of why this is so hard for her to deal with, if that's the case then I'd be very worried about the possibility of your wife having custody of your daughter.

  8. That's a good point, what the heck is the deal, someone should be able to give you information about your case even if your lawyer is in germany. Isn't there a paralegal, assistant, casemanager or something in your lawyers office that actually probably does the bulk of the work? I work in a law office, and while we may not be typical (we have a case manager for every attorney... actually they now outnumber the attorney, as I understand it typically law firms tend to have one assistant for each lawyer... but the boss figures this way attorney's can spend their time in court and doing the things only lawyers are legally able/trained to do vs pushing paperwork which just about anyone can do), but there should be someone who can tell you whats going on.

  9. How is it for the driving license whats the first thing to get started?

Step one, read the instructions, you can get them at a license beaurea (however that is spelled)/dmv location. Then you take the learners permit, some people takes classes etc, after getting your permit, get as much time in driving with someone who has a license as possible, then you take the test, it's not too complicated... however, unlike american citizens foreigners probably have to wait an extra couple weeks for DHS to send the actual license, if you haven't done AOS yet, then the license is probably only good for the amount of time left on your I-94 (maybe a few weeks longer than that), if you have an EAD already that might allow them to give a longer license period of say a year, but I don't know... I just know if you go before AOS they will likely issue you a license but the expiration date will likely be less than a year away. BTW, my wife is going to take the written test today, that'll be the easy part... the hard part... getting the necessary experience driving to pass the actual driving exam.

im thinking we are for sure going to get an attorney onit for his adjustment cause this was allot of stress so somone else can deal with it.

AOS is a cake walk, and fairly easy, you applied for a visa for a man from the scary towels on heads section of the world, that automatically means there is going to be some ludicrous background checks and special processing etc to get the visa... it's pretty much common knowledge on this site. You can do the AOS on your own, and I wouldn't expect it to be any more complicated than anyone else here, even if it takes longer than average, you'll still be together and I believe the EAD/AP is pretty much always done within 3 months or less (I think 2 for the AP). I'm guessing that there are still some extra hoops to jump through even in AOS for people from the middle east... but the only thing I can think of is that they are more likely to insist on doing the AOS interview (most k-1's AOS's are processed at CSC and no interview is done usually). Anyway, save your money on the AOS.

  10. I think the 30% obese thing is wrong, I think 30% of the country is MORBIDLY OBESE... I'd say it's probably closer to 60% are significantly overweight.

Every time I see a seriously overweight fat kid... I just think holy #######... when I was in elementary we had one fat kid in our grade, something like maybe 1% or so and by todays standards, they wouldn't even be considered a fat kid. Admittedly a lot of those not fat kids have become fat adults... but still, it's a little depressing to see so many kids with man boobs...

I'll admit my own weight isn't exactly ideal... and even if I get to my own personal goal weight medically I'm still considered obese (even though at my ideal weight I'd be lean... curse my short stocky build for making my BMI sound unhealthy), but yikes... what'll it be like in another 20 years, I'm confident I'll still be around, will it be like seeing a 25' coiled phone cord every time I see a child with a normal body weight... (napolean dynomite for the really young ones that haven't seen a non-wireless phone, has an example of how we used to do things)

  11. My wife landed her first regular job (I say regular because we have been cleaning my work office on weekends and some other minor side work has come up). She's the hostest for a japanese restaurant (rumored to have the best sushi in the area... no one else seems to dispute that either so I suspect it's true). The owner/manager is filipino which probably has a lot to do with her landing the job, and there are apparently several chinese working there, she made no mention of any japanese people working in the japanese restaurant (but hey, this is america... we have thousands of chinese restaurants, mexican restaurants etc, even quite a few japanese restaurants... but maybe 1 and often none for any other asian country.... I think we have 1 korean and 1 vietnamese place, about 6 or 7 japanese steak houses, a LOT of thai places, countless chinese restaurants (most of which are buffets).

That was a bit of a side rant... like I said, the good news is my wife landed her first job in the US, it even has some benefits but I don't really know the details on that yet, it'll be awesome if I can drop her off my works health insurance (I don't know for sure what they provide for health insurance but apparently they have something... then I don't know if it's comparable to what my office uses... I just know it costs 340 a month to add my wife to it.... I'd have to compare what they provide to make sure the coverage is reasonable before making any changes... as well as make sure this job doesn't fall through after a short time period). All that good news aside though, her working hours are pretty much the opposite of mine, I work 9-3 (those numbers being pretty flexible but that's the normal hours) and she'll be working 4 to closing (I think about 10 pm).

  12. Dang! I been registered on this forum for over a year now, sheesh! time do go by fast! I also changed my username!

Yo Mal, how long did your biometrics appointment take?

Sorry for the slow response, the biometrics itself was about 10 minutes or so... we went to the building, did a quick security screening (that's done for all federal buildings now) and went into a room with about 30+ chairs... none of which were in use... we saw another lady came in while we were there but I think they might have been having a slow day...

Of course, if you want to count the travel and everything else involved, it's 4 hours to get there and 4 hours back, plus we had to hang around STL for 8 hours and see some sites, too bad it was cold and a little rainy that day.

  13. I'm generally for the gardisil vaccine, I'm not so keen on the price of it though, it shouldn't cost what it does, THAT part is big business. I think overall the vaccine itself is a good thing, and once the patent on gardisil ends and the generics come into the picture, I'm sure we'll be seeing the vaccine administered in schools much like many other vaccines are today (or at least were while I was in school).

  14. New West Coast, it's what you have once california sinks into the ocean after "the big one" which is an earth quake... I think the lady got ahold of Escape From LA and didn't realize it was fictional... Maybe the power went out in her trailer at the end of the movie so she assumed it was real... yeah...

  15. Back when I was single, I spent some time on some dating sites, and well, I talked to some polyamorous people, what I noticed was that usually these people are often exceptionally unnattractive, and it's more often than not that there is one woman and several men, polyamorous or just an easy chick with a bunch of dudes who don't really care so long as they get some action...

  16. HW: Just a clarification on the SSN, you can get one from about 10 days after entering up until about 14 or so days from the I-90 expiring... once the I-90 is about to expire they will not issue a SSN until you have at least work auth or maybe you had to get a green card... I'm a little fuzzy if you miss the I-90 window but basically what it comes down to is make sure you get the SSN in the first month or two to avoid problems. Congrats on the marriage and hopefully you've started the AOS.

Good luck Chris & Mara, I think success means you are moving on to the next step, NVC, hopefully they won't ####### you around there and things can just go smoothly to the embassy.

  17. But.. what, exactly, is Advanced Parole? The .gov website says it's supposed to be for emergency situations.

AP is just a pair of papers that you give to the immigration officer on the way back into the country, it's kind of like a visa. If you can avoid using it, it's best, but you should apply for it. Most people don't wait a year for their greencard, but some people still do, if you happen to be one of those unlucky ones, you'll wish you had applied for it. The AP form asks reason for requesting travel, I think I wrote in case of emergency. You can't wait until there is an emergency to prepare for it, though I think you can get expedites on AP fairly easily if you have a real emergency. Just fill out the form, send it in, and hope you don't need to use it, and if you find you may have to, do your research here, some people have run into trouble with the actual use of AP.
