After. And it's something you have to do in person. Go to the SSN office bring your Certificate of Naturalization along with the form filled, they will update your status in the system and you will get a new card in the mail a few days later.
Of course, if you SS card is old enough that my immigration status is *not* on it, you can tell them not to generate a replacement card. I showed my passport card as proof of citizenship and told him not to generate a new card, as it was not necessary.

Don't assume submitting an AR-11 alone will update the address on the N-400. I would call to ensure the proper contact information for the N-400 after it is submitted.

They can do it different ways. Some just read the question and you answer. The study document is not "multiple choice" it is multiple answers. ANY of those shown are correct and accepted.
In some cases they give you pencil and paper and ask you to write your answers. But if English is your native language I doubt they will do that. Alla has a masters in English and Teaching English so they did not challenge her English ability either.
Mine was totally verbal. The IO started went right into the questions after verifying what was on the N-400 application to ensure nothing had changed and that it was me that had submitted it. Can't remember most of the questions, but got stuck on the very last question: (paraphrased) What was the reason for the American Revolution ?
Too funny... I sat there a few minutes thinking how to phrase the answer. Now, what's funny is that I know all about the reason being dual UK/Canadian citizen (UK dropped "subjects" at some point).

US laws are silent on multiple citizenship. US laws neither permits or prohibits a person from having US citizenship and other citizenship.
The UK and Belize may or may not have laws addressing multiple citizenship. You'll have to check on that.
A US citizen (regardless of other citizenships) must use his US passport to enter and exit the US. As a US citizen, you cannot use your other passports to enter and leave the US.
UK does not prohibit multiple citizenships. I had been dual citizen since birth (both NATO countries) and now hold US citizenship.

i am really worried and i know for shore taht i will get my interview when hubby is out of town.(he will be gone for 6 months).i'm allready starting to look for someone that would be able to watch my kids.and i told them to.once i get the big letter and depending on time..i willl know when i have to be there,but i wont know when i will be back.

From personal experience, once you hit the 5 year mark, they don't ask for marriage evidence. This happened to me as I applied after the 5yr mark instead of 3yr mark (due to other factors that prevented me from remembering anything for the test). I included the tax transcripts, but wasn't necessary.
More important that the foreign passport is current, valid ID (license) and valid GC. And of course to pass the test... LOL

Re-opening a very old thread. So, do you simply accept American citizenship (which requires one to renounce oaths to other governments) but simply retain/maintain a Thai passport as well?
Pretty much. The US cannot force you to give up citizenship of another country, just like they cannot take your foreign passport, which belongs (technically) to the foreign country.
Others on here have said there are certain countries where you *must* maintain citizenship and the foreign passport as well.
Be aware, once you are a US citizen, you must report all worldly income to IRS. This is different compared to most other countries' income tax laws.

My interviewer was a bit...stuffy, but not aggressive in any way. Despite the fact I was from the UK, I still had to take the English language part of the test, which was a little bit surprising. The civics questions were fine - they literally didn't deviate from the 100 questions so, if you've memorized those, you're fine (I actually think that they should make that part harder and make the questions more open-ended).
The interview itself was short - I think that was because I had tomes of documentation with my application. He asked a few questions about how the marriage going, etc, nothing too crazy.
I had my interview in Pittsburgh, which is an extremely efficient office. Had my citizenship interview and ceremony within a month of each other and only had to wait about three months after I filed. Very impressed.
Everyone must take the english tests, written and oral portion, regardless of where you were born or raised. I was born in UK and spent a lot of time in Canada, so I was pretty confident I could pass the english portion without difficulty. It's basically evidence on the part of the IO to show proof on their side that the applicant knows english.

I went to Social Security office today to let them know I'm a US Citizen now - I was told to leave the office not even a min later because I had a bottle of water in my bag and the security officer "nicely" told to me "Ma'am, you need to go to your vehicle now and leave your water"
hahaha! Anyway, the lady asked me for my Naturalization certificate and she updated wahtever info in their system and said I was all set - I asked her if I'll be receiving a new card in the mail and she said that my card is in perfect shape and I don't need a new one. I don't have any restrictions on my card, I believe a few years ago, my old card had a note "Valid for work only" with some sort of authorization, I don't remember the wording exactly. Although I'm not getting a new card I still had to fill out one of those new SS card forms (update of status).Sounds like each office has their own procedure for updating the SS status. I just went into my local office, rattled off the social number and handed him my passport card. He asked some questions, which were probably there from when I first applied and he updated the computer entry. He said it would take 24hrs to be updated there and said I'd receive a new card. I told him my current card has no restrictions noted on it and I really didn't need a new one. He cancelled the new replacement and said, 9 out of 10 need a replacement card.
Took all of 5 mins. Was pretty painless.

I went to the Social Security office today to let them know I was now a US citizen.
First, they couldn't find me in their system, despite the oath having been 2 weeks ago.
Second, they said once they verified the info, I'd be sent out a new SSN, and it may be a new number! Why? I have a card which shows no restriction or annotation, I don't need a new card (and certainly don't5 want a new number, my SSN is everywhere and used for so many security checks!).
On the plus side, registered to vote Wednesday and got my voter registration card today
Don't know why they would produce a new card. I haven't done mine yet, but then mine is over 20yrs old and was before they started tracking immigrant status on the cards (employment or not-for-employment etc.)
I'll probably go into the office on Joyce early next week.

Exactly. Once you hit the 5 yr mark, marriage evidence is basically ignored (not necessary). I hit my 5th year, although not intentional. Realized it after the fact. As long as you have passport & GC, that's it. Evidence becomes irrelevant.

I used my AP tons of times. The only drawback is having to go through secondary to be processed. Other than that you're good to go.
Yup, used AP to travel to eastern Canada lots of times since it was taking over 2yrs at the time for AOS. These days, need to make sure you have proper passport to go with the AP/EAD. Be ready for grilling at the border any time. I was driving back at the time.

The US requires when you leave or enter the US to use your US passport if you are a US citizen. However, the US does recognize multiple citizenship but does not encourage it. This is the statement from the Department of State:
The U.S. Government recognizes that dual nationality exists but does not encourage it as a matter of policy because of the problems it may cause.
And then you have situations where someone is born as a dual-citizen and becoming an American citizen gives you a tuple. What it does mean, is that when you are in a country where you are a citizen, you have to abide by the laws as such. Having 3 citizenships from 3 NATO countries is not at odds to each other as compared to being a citizen of some other countries.
However, the one important point to keep in mind when a US citizen, is that you are taxed on world-income regardless of your current country of residence.

My day AWESOME and the ceremony was OK - it lasted about 2 hours.

Hello Ladies and G's,
I am getting ready to file my N400 and need to know if the Tax Return documents should also be included in the documents that I send. Please note that I am filing based on the 5 year rule. Talked to an attorney who informed me that I don't need to initially send the tax return documents, but I should take the documents with me when I go for the interview in case the IO asks for them.
Also, do I need to include copies of traffic ticket court dispositions along with the N400 too?
Please advise. Thks
When I sent in my N400, I included tax transcripts. It was later I realized that I had already passed the 5 year mark. They basically ignore any "marriage" evidence at that point since its been 5 yrs. Makes everything quicker though during interview. They'll double check that you were the person that filed the N400. They ask you questions that you answered on the N400 to verify you answer the same as you filed. They'll quickly (at least for me) start asking the test questions and proof of reading & writing english.

You do/did not need to register for Selective Service. The age is 18 through 26. I believe the way the exactly word it is till the day of your 26th birthday but not after...
I think it is a generic letter...

I soooo didn't want to give up my COC and my birth certificate as well. Oh well, just have to wait a month and then everything is done. At least they're valid for 10 yrs.

Hi,
I'm two months behind you, also Fort Smith office. Did they say anything about how long it'd take to the oath? I thought the oaths were done in the waitingroom at USCIS Fort Smith?
Somewhat strange regarding the Oath. She said it would be scheduled within 45 days and that I would get notification as to the date, time and place. I assumed it would have been Fort Smith, but she seemed to indicate that it could be Fort Smith or Fayetteville or some other location (in front of a justice). They've mailed the notification, so I'm just waiting to see what it says.

Had my interview last Wednesday. Everything went smooth and quick. Can't remember some of the test questions, but the hardest was "Why did the Colonies fight England".
Everything was complete within 60m including verifying everything in the paperwork submitted (to verify that I know what was submitted).
Some of the questions were "How many Senators, Who's the VP, What's one of the longest rivers, What is the last day to file taxes..."; don't remember any of the others.
Waiting for Oath Ceremony to be scheduled and find out the location of it as well.
