  1. Congrats on getting your visa!

I have taken a guitar several times between the UK and US, I use a Gator flight case that cost me about $80 and has been wonderful - it is barely scratched and the guitar is always fine (just loosen the strings since the pressure will change in the aircraft). It's certified to withstand a huge amount of pressure and I also pack soft clothes around the guitar so it can't move around. Checking in in the UK (I've only flown from Bristol with it though, I guess it would be the same elsewhere) I have to take it to the 'special baggage' drop off after checking in my case, where they scan it, ask what's inside and then take it away. Arriving (at Newark at least) it doesn't come on the baggage carousel, again it's at the 'special baggage' (or whatever they call it!) desk in the baggage hall. I've never taken a computer, but not sure I would trust it (by it, I assume you mean a PC tower?) in checked-in baggage - maybe you could take the components out of the case and buy a cheap case to reassemble when you get there? That way you could probably pack it better? For the dog, check out the 'pets to the US' threads for more suggestions :)

First of all thanks. And. I see your also from Wales :) Where about? I'm in Neath.

My bagged allowance is one carry on item and 2 cases. I was thinking of taking the guitar as the carry on. It's only an acoustic. Although I'm not sure if it would be to big to take on with me. My first idea about the PC was to take it apart and pack it in Anti-Static bags within my clothes. But I guess what ever way I do it, it will ring alarm bells at customs. I would put the Hard Drive in my carry on bad and have that with me. Just in case the suit case with the PC gets lost. Also my Graphics card is very expensive. it costs more than the rest of the PC put together. So I'm hoping it wont get damaged. I may look into anti-static bubble wrap. but it's all pretty expensive.

  2. Ok I'm pretty much set for my move on the 17th of April. I don't have much to take with me. But I do have a computer. I was thinking of packing it nice and tight into one of my cases. has anyone else taken a computer with them? And any suggestions? I also have guitars and a bass. But I can only take one guitar with me. Plus I have a small mixing desk and mic I will be taking. I'm flying with Virgin Atlantic. I know I will have to inform them about the electrical goods in my case. As they may think it's something else otherwise. I have my visa, Visa pack and X-ray all ready to take as well. Anything else I should consider before travelling?

Also has anyone found a cheap way to take pets? It turns out that the price to take my small dog will be almost £1000. Far more than my flight costs. So I have to leave my dog behind :(

  3. So this is what started it all for my fiance and I.

We knew each other a year prior to making this video. But it was the recording and making of it that really brought us together. We had still never met in person at this point. And it was hard work convincing Aleisha to sing :P

We have many more songs and videos as well

    My channel is http://www.youtube.com/effects69

    And Aleisha's is

  4. WooooooooooooooooooWhoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance:

it was deliverd to my door today. 4th march 2009 *\0/* I'm soooooo excited!!! I couldn't find the approved thread so I just posted here. We are both ( MyUKLove and I ) very grateful for all your help over the past months. It's taken about 9 months to get the visa. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm now looking at flights! We plan to marry within the next 3 months. It will probably be a month before I head out to LA as I need to save some cash and sell my possessions.

  5. Thanks guys. Well her current financial situation meets all the requirements. It's just that the 2007 and 2008 returns do not. I am of course sending the 2007 as asked. But I'm also going to add 2006 and her recent pay stubs for her new full time job. The guy on the phone at the embassy said. if they are also asking for you to post off your passport it probably means they will issue you with your visa. So I hope he's right. This is really stressfull. :s Time apart is getting to us now I think.

  6. Be sure to give them all the info requested on the blue (I assume) sheet.

And if you include 06 so much the better. The CO can only evaluate what is presented. Better to give more than enough info rather than not quite enough.

Sounds like you are almost there!

    Best of luck.

Yes it was indeed the blue form. Ok thats great. I will also give them the extra evidence. They pick it up from my house on Monday morning.

    Thanks :)

  7. I had my interview on the 20th of feb 2009. Everything went pretty smooth apart from at the end the guy interviewing me said I am missing my fiance's tax returns. He said not to worry as I won't need to go back to the embassy. He gave me some paper with the relevent actions I need to take ticked. One was please provide the tax return form and the other was please enclose your passport. The guy at the interview was acting like I would be issued my visa. But I'm now in mixed mind. I'm unsure if I will now or if they will deny me. The tax return forms they wan't are for 2007. But in 2007 my fiance's income didn't meet the requirements. So now I'm really worried they will fail me :( If I had them with me yesterday I know 100% the guy would have just given me the visa there and then. But now it says it will be reviewed once again by someone. Do you think I should also hand in her 2006 returns as she met the requirements that year. Should I add the most recent pay stubs from her new job (they don't have any from that job.)
