Just want to relay NVC's reply here in case others are curious in the future: (I did an online enquiry asking for more time)

"To Whom it Concerns:

Thank you for contacting the National Visa Center (NVC). To keep your case active, do not let more than one year go by without contacting the NVC.

The easiest way to keep your case active is to access the Consular Electronic Center (CEAC) at https://ceac.state.gov/iv. Every time you go into your CEAC account, it will update the last contact date."

Thanks all. I was trying to find a definitive answer. Since there seems to be conflicting information between the NVC welcome letter and the NVC website, I did an enquiry as suggested.

EDITED TO ADD: I should add that the NVC welcome letter included the sentence:

"IMPORTANT: If you do not log into CEAC or communicate with NVC regarding this immigrant visa case for a period of one year, by law the Department of State must terminate your visa application."

And another question: My Beneficiary (my mom) is widowed, which I indicated. Then I answered '1' for how many times she's been married, but the next question is Prior Spouses which asks when the marriage ended... which I would think it didn't end, but the form is forcing me to enter a date here...?

I am applying for a Green Card for parent after I became a US citizen recently. On I-130 (online) one question asks for my A-number. Should I fill in my A-number from when I had a Green Card or should I choose "I don't have one"? Not sure if it still pertains after naturalization...

It is unclear to me what the best way is to answer the basis of eligibility question on the N-400 online form. 

A: resident for >5 years

B: resident for >3 years and married to US citizen 

Both of these apply to me as I've been here more than 10 years. In the eyes of USCIS, which of these will make me 'more eligible'? Will choosing A be less of a hassle in terms of providing less evidence?

I actually think I read somewhere here on VJ that they don't even ask that stuff, that it is basically a formality. But hopefully either way we won't have an interview. We are traveling overseas in September so I hope we have approval by then!

M&L I think someone said interviews are random and it is only about 5-10% of filers that get chosen. So hopefully we all slide through without interviews!!

Btw, I was looking at the lists of Jan and Feb filers--is no one getting interviews nowadays? I previously thought I should be expecting one. (I didn't get an interview for AOS either)

Good news! My AOS was filed March 4 and today I received my notice of approval/Welcome Notice! (dated May 1) So that's less than 2 months...

I wanted to share that as an encouragement to you, but also I'm very curious whether anyone else has gotten approved for permanent residency yet because this was much sooner than I expected!

PS: My case was transferred to CSC

Just to say that Dublin, Ireland is listed as a POE in the Reviews, but that I can't seem to find it when I tried to fill in my Timeline.

Yes I kept my name to get through these 'crazy' procedures first with as little problems as possible. She also photocopied my marriage certificate and 1-94. I hope all goes well!

Go quickly because if you are too near the expiration of your I-94, they won't give you a SSN. Often it's 14 days left on the I-94 that's required. Take that document with you. We needed it to point the inexperienced worker in the right direction.

I did go today, and yes you were right, the person behind the counter at the SS office wasn't sure what to do at first, claiming that although I am K-1, it stands for 'fiancee of a US citizen' and now that I'm married I'm not K-1 anymore (eventhough my K-1 hasn't expired yet).

Nevertheless she finally put it into the system anyway but said it would go through DHS first.

What confuses me is, even if I get a SSN, I haven't applied for EAD yet, so I shouldn't be allowed to work? Yet when I asked about whether I will get a SS card that will say 'working only allowed with DHS approval' she said those cards don't exist anymore?? It doesn't bother me too much since I don't plan to work yet, just want a SSN.

I was contemplating afterwards how it was rather funny that to the person at the SS office I seemed to have less rights because I'm married now, while DHS should be happy I'm actually sticking to what I said I would do which was marry my fiance

Please don't pay $110 for just transcribing your vaccinations onto a I-693. As recommended by other VJers, I sent my DS-3025 to a civil surgeon in Austin, Texas who will do it for $30 (includes postage too). Mine came back after about a week.

They are used to providing this service so you don't need to explain painfully that you don't require another medical exam, provided you've completed all the required vaccinations. They will call you back after you leave a voicemail.

Hi,

I was just about to go apply for a SSN for my husband's tax purposes. I remember at my POE (Dublin, Ireland) the immigration officer clearly told me I cannot work.

However, according to the social security website, K-1s are allowed to apply for a SSN.

Please see document RM 00203.500 Employment Authorization for Nonimmigrants scroll down to the table under the section "C. Policy - Employment Authorization by Class of Admission" point "1. Aliens Work Authorized Without Specific DHS Authorization".

K-1 is listed as admissable.

My conclusion is: I'm confused, but will give it a try tomorrow anyway (will probably bring a print out of this document in case I need it)
