  1. Thank you for the input. The main thing I'm concern is whether I need to find a joint sponsor or is just myself enough? We're expecting to get the consulate notice soon so would like to get this part sorted out in what we need to prepare. Finding a joint sponsor will take some thought and effort -- it is quite an ask and burden for whoever accepts that role.
  2. So I was using the 'Interactive Tax Assistant' from irs.gov here, https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/do-i-need-to-file-a-tax-return. For example, filling it out for 2022 it gives me a letter pdf this is the first paragraph: Any interest I'm getting annually isn't exceeding that $12950 amount. For 2023 and 2024, that got bumped a little higher courtesy of fiat inflation.
  3. Hi everyone, I have some questions regarding proof of finances and my ability to support my fiancé as it relates to embassy/consulate interview. My situation is slightly atypical in that I consider myself semi-retired and am primarily living off my savings and investments. As such I haven't worked a usual job for the pass decade so I wouldn't have a tax return available which is something the interviewer usually expects. I was able to get a letter and documents from irs.gov showing I didn't have to file as well as compliance. My plan at the moment is to put enough into my bank and brokerage accounts equal to 5x whatever the poverty guideline is -- which is about ~100k. In addition to that I'll also bring my most recent TIAA monthly statement showing amount I have in retirement account(these funds are completely separate from the 100k in my bank account). My questions: Will this be enough to sufficiently satisfy the financial requirement part of the interview? Is it enough to show that my fiancé will not be a public charge? Thanks
  4. Hi everyone, I received I-797 NOA2 noticed back in March indicating approval from USCIS. NVC have since received my package and I've even got an email(with K_FTP attachment) from them telling me they've forwarded to the USEmbassy in China Guangzhou. As a next step in this process, I was expecting the embassy there to contact or send some notice in the mail to my fiancé so an interview can be scheduled. Not only has she not received any notification yet, checking our case number at https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx is now showing a 'refused' status. This is an unexpected development. USCIS and NVC process went through without much trouble. Any idea why the embassy would 'refuse' our case without any notification or explanation? This is really concerning. What should our next step be? Thanks
  5. No I'm not. My fiance is my aunt's husband's niece and my aunt is my dad's sister. No I'm not. My fiance is my aunt's husband's niece and my aunt is my dad's sister.
  6. Thanks for feedback. I'll go ahead and prep the draft letter. There's also a second page that's the coversheet. It has a couple of checkboxes: A new G-28, Additional Fees, Additional Forms, Other. G-28 is for Notice of Entry Appearance as Attorney or Accredited Representative. Since we're not consulting a lawyer, is it okay to leave this part blank and unchecked?
  7. okay so here's the main part of the RFE on the back verbatim: Looking back at my intent to marry letter, I forgot to explain this part of the situation. I originally grew up in NYC so my folks and siblings still live there. I later moved to California for a job and have lived here for 15 years. The intent to move back to NYC for couple months is so my Fiancée gets a chance to know my parents and siblings better. The end goal will be to move back to California however for better job opportunities, the weather and other reasons. At no point will we be living separately once she's in the United States. That's my current situation in a nutshell. Any feedback is much appreciated.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm not quite sure how to respond to the 'Request For Evidence' letter I just received yesterday. I'm feeling nervous about not responding correctly. It considers my I-129F petition incomplete because there's some incongruence of my current physical address and the intended address of where the beneficiary will reside. In addition it ask where we intend to marry as well as our mutual relative that introduced us to each other. Just to give some context of my situation and plan: I currently reside in CA but the plan is once my fiancé gets her K-1 Visa approved, we're going to move to New York to get married and live there a couple months before moving back to CA together. - How should I respond to the RFE for improving chances of K-1 Visa approval? - For the coversheet, there are a couple checkboxes mentioning G-28 form. The four checkboxes 'A New G-28', 'Additional Fees', 'Additional Forms', 'Other'. Is G-28 form needed while responding to RFE or is it optional? I'm not using any Attorney or Accredited Representative. Can I leave these 4 boxes unchecked? Hopefully the responses in this thread will be helpful to others in the future. Thanks
