Thank you!! My fiancé said it was the easiest part of this whole wild journey!
I added his walkthrough 🤗
“I arrived at the consulate, went through security, and locked away my personal items in the locker. After entering the main building, I waited in line and met two windows, one for submitting documents and one for the actual interview.”
(He said having our paperwork perfectly organized was a lifesaver. They asked for everything individually, and having them pre-sorted kept the process smooth. We all know that pressure of people behind us waiting their turn, so be prepared and organize your docs in the order they request.)
“They handed me a DVD with my medical exam results. After a short wait, they called my name to the interview window. The whole convo was done over an intercom (so yep, the room could hear everything 😅) but the officers were reassuring and kind. They asked where we met, how we met, and what U.S. address we’d be living at. I kept the answers short and honest.
After the questions, they told me I was approved and said I’d receive an email a few days later confirming that the packet is ready. They also reminded me not to open the sealed packet, it’s for U.S. Customs to open upon arrival in the States.”
He also noted that the online status portal showed “current status: interview” even after being approved. They told him this is normal and sometimes it’ll even say “denied,” but that’s just a system glitch, so don’t panic if you were told you’re approved.
The longest part of this process was waiting for the consulate to send the interview date. I hope yours comes through soon!
