  1. Yes I guess my fiance had posted this question today as well, so sorry for the duplicate. She has now found out that her ex has already dissolved the civil union. This brings up another question though- she will need to disclose the previous union and provide official documentation of the dissolution? Thank you for any information!
  2. My fiancé had previously entered into a 'civil union' in Chile that has not been formally dissolved. We are planning to get married in Slovakia this summer where she is from. As far as we know this will not affect our ability to get married because the civil union is not recognized there. The USCIS states that it does not recognize civil unions that aren't equal to a marriage which in Chile they are not. Would having a this undissolved civil union affect the CR-1 application? It clearly states that prior marriages must be legally terminated but there is no mention of previous civil unions, except to say that they are not recognized.
