No. You need to file I-864 for Affidavit of Financial Support for AOS. And the I-797C is the NOA2…. It’s the approval letter from USCIS. -
I think as long as it’s not a crime towards a child he has a chance. They are gonna prolly gonna wanna see court details etc, and he may have to file some waiver of some sort. ( I only say this because when I went to my k1 interview in Kingston, this is what I heard the consulate telling a guy). You can do more research on the USCIS website. also, this is not legal advice as I am not a lawyer in no way, shape or form.

Send your passport back to the embassy once you have done your medical if u want to. It is completely fine. I did my interview on March 5, my medical on March 15th and on March 18th I dropped my passport back at the document center on March 18th. The embassy didn’t get my medical results till a month after. It’s fine if you want to. My passport with my visa is on its way with DHL to me.
