My case was on DS5535 for one month and MTL consulate has been only replying to the congressman inquiry saying that the case is currently under administrative processing. Today the consulate responded to my email inquiry sent on May 21. Saying that my case is pending review by a consular officer. Does it imply that the case is back from DS5535 review in DC? Or if it is just a nothing burger. Thanks!

U are free to travel in and out of the country as Canadian… but you can’t immigrate because of national security reasons… that they can’t disclose
Truly asinine 🤪

Can one apply for other work visas or TN visa to go and work in the US ..if after interview , you are put into administrative processing?
It is my understanding this is permissible, provided of course that requirements are met. for that different visa application. Can’t say whether you’d end up in AP all over again

It remains a damned mystery (reasons) many are refused and slapped with the Dreaded DS-5535. Excessive travel (regardless where to) is a trigger, I’ve learned. When you come up for air as to be added to the Sheets tracker

wonder if male are subject to more scrutiny than women!
Probably, but I would say other factors might swing that pendulum

Should I be worried ?
Never worry about a possible problem, concern yourself with a solution. For instance, familiarize yourself with the DS-5535 and start gathering travel details for the last 15 years in case you’re asked for it. Good luck 🤞🏻

I would try not to worry too much about it but also be prepared for the possibility. Unfortunately, our situation sounds very similar to yours. My husband is also born (French) Canadian from way back, does not work in TAL, but had traveled a lot to "safe" countries. Mostly to the US for work but also some tourism to Europe and Mexico and we got out into AP. Extensive travel history seems to also get you flagged occasionally regardless of background. We didn't even know this was a possibility going in and I wish we had been better prepared for this outcome. We've been waiting over a year now since his interview like most people who interviewed in early 2023. Best of luck to you guys, hopefully everything goes smoothly.
Pretty similar set of circumstances with my Canadian born husband who traveled extensively for work (in addition to leisure travel) all over the world (including to the U.S.) in the span of 14 years

It might be because I was emailing them twice a day.
Yup, that sounds about right. I would quit that if I were you. The answer will be same (case in administrative processing “cannot predict when the processing will be completed, please be assured that the Consulate and the State Department are aware of your concerns and will contact you as soon as the processing is complete”).

Wooo hoooo!!! Finally received a topic specific reply from the Consulate this afternoon acknowledging an email sent to it on March 3 supplementing answer to the previously submitted DS-5535. Sent follow-up emails on April 14 and May 11. Took three months and a day to send a personalized reply.

If your administrative processing has been pending more than six months, please contact us.
I’d bet everyone active in this forum has contacted the Montréal Consulate once case hits 6 months in AP. The reply will be the Automatic cookie cutter one when enquiring about case status

Tried for what purpose, specifically?

Doesn’t hurt to try. I’ve tried everyone, including congressman, senator, even the White House. No help at the end of the day.
Yes. No positive outcome. The senators for my state are both Republicans, so I doubt they would do anything but ignore me. The Congressperson for my district (a Democrat) has inquired twice. Same useless reply to those requests. I’ve emailed the WH (President, VP and help with a Federal Agency.) Not receiving receipt acknowledgements anymore.

It’s worth the money to file and try at least to speed things up
Way too soon. If you’ve got the 💵 to spend, more power to you. It will get dismissed, and I wish you luck in that at least it might get the Consulate to move your case along, but I doubt it .. ☮️ to you

Ugh 😩 Horrible 😤 So sorry to learn this for her. That is cruel and unusual punishment. Any clue as to what might have triggered it (if anything)?
