So, when we last left our heroes, they were waiting for the outcome of the snafu that happened at the interview date wherein USCIS was confused over the possibility of multiple green cards. On July 9th (a month after our interview), we received a letter setting our oath ceremony for July 16th...no explanation over the interview snafu issue. The oath ceremony was set for the Multnomah County courthouse.

July 16th just happened to be the day we had already booked to leave for a vacation in Canada, so we immediately went to the USCIS office to defer that appointment. While on vacation we received a new date for the oath ceremony: this past Monday, August 3rd/1:40PM at the USCIS office.

It was a fine group of 37 taking the oath, and the love of my life was the first in the batch to do so. ~1 hour later the group that was gathered were proudly in the company of a batch of shiny new citizens.

WHEW! Time to get a passport! :) :)

I hope it's all cleared up soon.

I was just wondering if the interviewer was asking for the actual physical conditional green card (which would have the same number). Sorry, I didn't realize the interviewer was asking for a card with a different A number.sometimes they just want to check if you have the older cards with you because you're supposed to surrender them all at the oath. Whatever the reason was, good luck.

As with previous dates with NCIS, we came over-prepared because of reading visajourney

We brought all current and previous passports as well as all the green cards she has had. Beyond that, about 2 pounds of paperwork and other records.

1- Your profile says you successfully removed conditions; what happened to the 2-year green card?

2- It could be an issue of mistaken identity. The background check may have confused your case with someone else's. They'll just need time to make sure they are approving the right person.

3- Could be a case of identity theft where someone used your information to obtain a "replacement" green card.

Those are the scenarios I can think of. If it's #1 and you forgot about the conditional green card, then contact them.

If it's not #1 then you'll just have to wait and let them sort it out. Hard luck.

Our 2 year green card and regular green card both have the same A#.

#2 and #3 have both occurred to us as well. With #2, Lisa's last name was common both before and after we were married. #3 seems to be happening all too often these days. We've had credit cards replaced for fraud 4 times in the last year and half.

So, we had the interview on Tuesday morning. Here is how it went...

Our appointment was at 9:45AM, and we showed up at 9:20AM. The interview officer didn't come out to get us until about 10:15AM.

It all went so fast it is hard to keep track of everything after the fact. The test was over in no time!

English reading, had to read: "Which state has the largest population?" (paraphrasing - don't remember the exact wording )

English writing, had to write: "California is the state with the largest population"

Then on to the civics quiz, which she got 6/6 on:

- What is one reason colonists came to America?

- What is one right or freedom from the first amendment?

- Who is in charge of the executive branch of government?

- There are four amendments to the constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

- If the president can no longer serve, who becomes president?

- During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the US?

The I.O. said she passed the test, then asked if she had any other green cards, and we said no. Then she said that their records indicated that there seems to be another green card associated with our case, and she has to order the records before she can make a final determination...which could take up to two months. We were shocked at this and didn't really know what to ask (after the fact we thought of a bunch of questions we wish we had asked).

So, we are now in a holding pattern and we have no idea what they meant by us having another green card. We looked through all our files and could not find any reference to such a thing.

Disheartened to be in the dwindling set of people without interview dates, but encouraged by the only other Portland office person in adjacent months getting their interview notice recently.

Hello all!

I haven't visited VisaJourney for a long time! I'm now married to my husband of 9 years!

My 10-year PR card expires in 2018. I have decided to apply for US citizenship but am trying to figure out when to submit my N-400 paperwork.

My best friend from college is getting married (in my hometown) in July 2015. I've been invited to the wedding and obviously want to be there! But I don't understand the Field Office processing timelines.

I am supposed to initially submit my N-400 paperwork to the Phoenix AZ lockbox. The USCIS website says that field office is behind by 6 months (processing March submissions in August). Is it correct that my paperwork gets transferred to my local field office in Oregon? The USCIS website says the Oregon field office is behind by 8 months (processing January submissions in August.)

So should I assume that I have to wait for a decision for 14 months (8+6)??? I looked at the timelines to find other applicants who have the Oregon field office, but couldn't find anyone from 2014. Maybe I didn't scroll back enough pages!

It says that you can't travel outside the US once you mail in your N-400 paperwork. The obvious solution would be to wait until after my friend's wedding to submit the application (November to July is only 9 months, so I'd be unable to attend her wedding if processing takes 14 months.)

But then what? What if, once I submit my paperwork (in Fall 2015 for example), my brother gets married or has a child? Or my dad is in the hospital with a heart attack? Or my mom dies in a car accident? I wouldn't be able to visit because I'd have already filed my N-400. It doesn't mention exceptions to that rule.

My Canadian relatives and friends are no help because they say, "Why do you need US citizenship? You can just renew your Green Card." Which is true! But Oregon is my home now and I want to be an American citizen.

I know that I'm a worrier (I'm trying to work on that but it is hard.) How did you decide when to file your application? Did any of you miss important life events because you had to stay in the country during the N-400?

It has been quite awhile since posting here. I now have my Permanent Resident Green Card for the 10-year period. Hooray!

Now has come the time when we have decided to move. This will be the first time we've changed addresses since getting married.

I know that I have to fill out Form AR-11, and my husband has to fill out Form I-865.

When looking at the requirements for AR-11, it says:

"If you are a non-U.S. citizen, please also have:

-The date when you last entered the United States (If you cannot remember, please fill in an approximate date.);

-The location where you last entered the United States (the port of entry where you entered – whether by land, sea, or air)."

Me: "Uh, dearest husband, do you know what they are trying to say here?"

Him: "Um, not sure. Do you?"

Me: "Kinda, maybe?"

Him: "Hmmmmmmm..."

Together: "VISAJOURNEY TO THE RESCUE!"

(Okay, so it didn't really happen like that... :-))

Does that paragraph mean:

1) The last time I was specifically out of the country (like, visiting my family last summer) OR

2) The last time I entered the U.S. specifically for visa-related business (getting married in 2005)

We think it's #1, but it doesn't hurt to double-check!

Ok, this might be a silly question, but I have to ask it anyways, especially so, if I have to make arrangements other arrangements ahead of time, in case my I-751 is still pending then:

Being a Canadian Citizen now living in the US as a Permanent Resident, can I visit Canada next year (after Jaunary 2009) with any/all of the following identification, and not have any problems at the border from both the Canadian and the American sides?:

1) An expired Canadian passport (I don't want to renew my old Canadian passport, yet, as I need the extra money to pay for US immigration expenses here first)

2) An expired 2yr conditional green card, with an NOA1 one-year extension letter

3) A very outdated Canadian Certificate of Citizenship Naturalization card

To enter Canada you must have a current, valid passport, period. An expired passport is no good for that. To go to any country, even your home country of Canada, you will need a current one.

You really should get it renewed. It costs 92$ (plus picture costs, and mailing costs). It really doesn't take TOO long to get it processed. We renewed Lisa's in February and we were prepared for it to take several months but it turned out to be less than a month (this was after an initial rejection because of the strict photo requirements).

Hope this helps (I'm not an immigration person...just my observations)

Oh wow.. thats the same day my husband and I got married and the same year too!! crazy!!! Congrats on your approval.

And I used to live in Seattle until about a year before my honey and I got together...syyyynchroniiiicityyyyy.

Did anyone ever ask you why you chose to get married on a Friday? We get asked that occasionally.

Back in late-June, when some people who submitted around the same time as us were getting approvals, I kept bringing it up to my love, but that seemed to only get her down that *we* hadn't been approved yet. So, I stopped giving her constant updates and just privately checked myself each day until I could give her the final good (ecstatic) news.

When you start to see people around your date being greenlit, it looks like it means that they'll be getting to yours soon-ish. Heck...yours may even be an early approval! It was about 5 weeks between when we first started seeing approvals for people near our submittal date until the time we received ours. YMMV of course!

Green card production has been ordered. Yay!

The beauty, and the stress, of the massive I-751 status list is being able to see other people's progress. When other people that get approval submitted after you, a little pocket of your brain wonders what is taking so long on yours.

But the keyword here is patience. We were approved in a similar timeframe to many others that submitted within a month or so of us. Some were approved before us, and some will be approved after us. For all that are still waiting, your day will come. But these compilations really give you a good idea of the *range* of when you might expect results.

Best to all (especially those that are waiting) and here's hoping that *your* WOOHOO! day comes soon.

I know the instructions asked to NOT change the font settings, but the font face seemed to have been lost from James original post. I changed it back to "Lucida Console" font for the status grid (in case that formatting gets lost in the future and anyone needs to know). I also corrected some of the "..." spacing for some entries. Hopefully it is A-OK again!

Hi all,

We are gathering evidence for my "Removal of Conditions" process -- hooray! There must be a light at the end of the immigration tunnel, right?

In reading the I751 instructions on the USCIS website, I noticed this phrasing:

"The documents should cover, but not limited to, the following examples" and then lists affidavits in the examples.

I intepret that to mean "The documents should cover affidavits" = affidavits are required.

Sigh. More work, but okay. By this time, we're used to jumping through hoops for love! That's not my question.

My questions are:

1. Can the person know both my spouse and I for longer than "just" since our wedding?

I looked at the affidavit example pinned to this forum, and am going to use it as a template. Obviously, I know to change "Buddy O'Mine" to the name of my actual friend.

But I'm not familiar with some of the other terminology. Please help!

2. What is "FURTHER AFFIANT SAYETH NAUGHT"? Does this phrase stay in the affidavit?

3. What does "ss.:" mean? (in the middle of the page)

When my friend appears before the notary, I want to be sure the document is right. Have other VJ'ers used different templates?
