D-&-J

My husband has his interview and oath in Newark last week. We waited about an hour and a half before he was called in for his interview and he was back just 10 minutes later. We waited about three more hours for the oath ceremony and then he was done!

The whole process took longer than expected. My husband was placed in line for an interview within weeks of sending in the application. USCIS told us he didn't need to do the biometrics again because they were valid for 15 months. Unfortunately, he sat in line for an interview until his biometrics expired and he ended up having to do them. We are just thankful to be done!

My husband is in a similar situation. His NOA is November 4, 2011 and he was placed in line for an interview on November 28. In December he placed a service request regarding the biometrics and at the beginning of January received a reply via email that his biometrics from Dec. 2010 were still valid so he would not have to do them again. We thought this was great news and that he would have an interview in no time. Well, now its nearly March and his biometrics will expire in a few weeks (I was told by an USCIS supervisor that they expire after 15 months). I've been keeping close track of the timelines of other VJers in the Newark office and they have consistently processed everyone else in just over 4 months (give or take a week). It has now been 4 months since my husband applied and still no interview notice (which normally comes about a month before the interview date). We thought the process would be faster when we found out that he didn't have to repeat the biometrics. Instead, it seems like his file was put in some other pile which they have forgot about. I think he will probably have to repeat the biometrics but hopefully before his interview since Newark does the oath the same day.

Hi Everyone,

My husband had his interview on Tuesday and was approved! They didn't ask him anything except to swear that everything we had submitted was the truth. He received his passport with the CR-1 visa today via courier. I didn't feel like we could truly celebrate until it was in his hands. He will finally be HOME next week!

I just called the automated respose system for NVC and it says they sent me a list for additional info... I have sent in the AoS paperwork but have not sent the $400 visa fee or the DS-230... is the RFE the false one because that paperwork is missing or is it because there is something really missing from the AoS paperwork?

The same thing happened to me and I totally panicked but it turned out to be nothing. It is not an RFE, it is just because you haven't sent in the rest of your paperwork. You can always talk to an operator to make sure. Good luck!

I still don't have an interview date...this is getting pretty annoying. I hope they assign one soon. Any ideas guys?

Hey CJ - I had an NVC operator tell me that the NVC only schedules interviews the second week of each month. Has anyone else been told that? This motivated me to push Naples to request our file which they did and they received it today. I thought our I-130 file might make it to Naples on its own (after NVC scheduled the CR-1 interview) in time for the K-3 interview but after talking to the operator I realized that probably wouldn't happen. Now all we have to do is call Naples next week and request that our Jan. 20 K-3 interview be switched to a CR-1. I hope that NVC operator was wrong and that you will hear something soon!

I just found out that our I-130 file is on its way to the Italian Consulate now. Yay!!! Since NVC had all of our documentation and we had scheduled the K-3 interview for Jan. 20, I asked the Consulate to request our file from NVC and they actually did! So now we can just switch our K-3 interview to a CR-1. The Consulate in Naples usually gives out the CR-1 visas the same day as the interview. That will make it exactly two months from our NOA2 to visa in hand. We could have scheduled the interview a week earlier but my husband would have had to pay $250 to change his plane ticket (he is here now for the holidays) and we wanted to give NVC enough time to process our file.

One of the NVC operators told me a couple of weeks ago that NVC only schedules interviews the second week of each month so we would have had to wait until January for a date which probably would have put us in February for the interview. The operator at NVC also said they would only send the file to the Consulate if it was requested by the Consulate. I was prepared to get my Senators and Congressman involved again but thankfully there was no need this time.

I'm so glad that I had LingChe's shortcuts to suggest this K-3 shortcut! It probably saved us another month! Thank you Nimche and LingLing!

Also, did anybody create the barcode for the DS-3032? Its that I created mine but it comes out so small... and the space to paste it on the actual form is so long.... Will this be a problem? Or am I doing it wrong?

Congrats! Its good to see that NVC processed your paperwork so fast. They have reviewed and approved my AOS and we sent the DS-230 and related paperwork this morning. So maybe by Friday we will be done too! Did the AVR message change or did you have to talk to an operator to find out that your case was complete?

I have now joined your ranks, with our I-130 and I-129F being approved. Make some room for us!!

The operator told me that the AOS has already been reviewed and accepted. Just waiting for that darn birth certificate.

At the moment I am waiting for an approval but my husband will go through Naples, Italy for his interview.

I have researched Naples councelor and people are saying that their interview went well. Have you heard anything that we should keep in mind?

The only thing Italy specific that we have discovered is that the birth certificate that my husband got didn't have his parents' names on it and it expires after six months. We called the consulate and they said we didn't need the birth certificate with his parent's names because I'm sponsoring him but we got a new a birth certificate to send to NVC. I don't know how closely NVC looks at things but we didn't want an RFE. I think Daniele ended up getting one in a European Union format.

We also found out today that our K-3 papers have been processed in Italy and we can call and schedule the interview next week. We're hoping for a date mid January which should give NVC enough time to finish our CR-1 paperwork and get it to the embassy. Then we can just switch the interview to the CR-1. Hopefully the timing works out.

We will post info about the embassy once Daniele has his interview.

I mailed my package as soon as the AOS fee showed paid. Once the website says paid, you can print the bar code cover sheet to send with your AOS package.

I got lucky to get it on the first try too. I think I said something like "could I get the Invoice ID Number so I can pay the online bill?" The operator just started reading it to me.

My AOS fee bill was generated on Friday and the hard copy came in the mail on Monday so it isn't much of a wait. We have to wait for them to accept the DS-3032 anyway before we can proceed with the IV package so in the end waiting for the IIN to pay the AOS bill won't slow you down.

I checked the AVR this morning and it said that the AOS Fee Bill and the Choice of Agent requests were generated yesterday - 9 days after NVC entered our case into their system. I called back and talked to an operator who gave me the IIN right away. I was able to pay the AOS Bill online and I am waiting for it to be accepted. My husband will e-mail the Choice of Agent today too.

I've had all the documents required by NVC to continue with the I-130 together for a while now and I've been waiting for NVC to generate requests for them. I've checked my list again and again but today I realized that I had relied entirely on VJ for the list of documents to send to NVC. I searched around and I found the NVC document requirements on the Dept. of State website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html.

Had I not looked at this website I would probably have received an RFE. My husband's birth certificate did not have his parents' names on it. He has to make a special request for this kind of birth certificate. He will get one tomorrow and send it express to me so it shouldn't slow us down.

I just wanted to share this so that others don't make the mistake that we almost made. I know most of us plan to send in our packets as soon as our payments are accepted and not wait for NVC's request in the mail.

Also - The birth certificate that we had expires next week! I didn't know a birth certificate could expire!

I'm glad I checked our documents again. I just realized that the birth certificate that my husband got from his commune expires next week!!! Upon further examination of the document and Immigration's requirements I also discovered that the birth certificate needs to include his parents' names which is does not! Apparently you have to make a special request to have parents' names included. We will have to contact the Italian Consulate tomorrow to see if we need to get a new police certificate. I can't believe these documents are already six months old! Its funny how optimistic I was back in June on how long we would have to wait for our NOA2! Maybe I'll add this to the "Stupid RFEs" thread as an "almost stupid RFE."

I found out that NVC had received the I-130 through the AVR and was able to get the NVC case number also. However, the AVR still says they have no record of the I-129F but I got the NVC case number and date it was sent to the consulate from the operator.

I have all my paper together too. I was hoping that the Choice of Agent and the AOS Fee bill would be generated by now. Back to waiting - except this wait will be much shorter than the last!!!
