  1. can't check mine online yet either

I can't either! But I was reading the msg that said it does not begin with MSC so maybe the real receipt notice comes after biometrics. I don't know :):(

You just have to wait, mine wasn't up until a few days after I received my NOAs. Mine starts with "MSC" as well... This is what i found out on the USCIS website regarding that issue:

Q : I received my receipt notice, but when I check my case online it does not appear. How do I get my case added to the system so I can check its progress?

USCIS had an unprecedented number of applications filed over the summer. Our efforts to enter these applications into our systems have caused a delay in the transfer of information from our case control system to the Case Status Online system. We are experiencing delays of up to 3 to 4 weeks between receipting your application and its status being available www.uscis.gov. If you have additional questions after your information is available on Case Status Online, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

    HOPE IT HELPS!!!

  2. Hi there guys! Just a silly question:

Do we have to remove our facial piercings for the Biometrics? I have quite a few and I might have trouble removing them on the spot if they were to ask me.

    Thank you in advance!

this is just my hubbys experience, but he has an eyebrow piercing and he was asked to remove it... he told them that he couldnt and they let him keep it in

his biometrics were done in philadelphia

Thanks so much for the response! I have nose piercings, septum piercings, labret piercings, you name it,... Some I can take off, some I cannot :P Let's see what happens. I guess it'll be up top the officer who takes my biometrics...

  3. Yeaah, yeahhh....we received our NOA's for EAD and AOS!!!

USCIS received it on Monday 3/10 and one week later we get our NOA'S!!!!!

I hope we get our biometrics soon!!!!

    Hey folks!!!

I have a question and maybe you can help. We received both NOA's for AOS and EAD today. Both notices said that my husband needs biometrics, and that an appointment would be sent.

Are we getting two appointments for Biometrics, or just one? I'm a little lost here. For those who already went through this, please assist.

    Thanks,

    YG & MAT

You will only get one appointment. The letter will have the receipt numbers for your AOS and EAD ;)

  4. You might wanna take them of before you go your biometrics

Yes that might be an idea, the thing is thought I have them on my passport pictures. that is why I was asking.

    Thanks for the reply!

    What problem could they pose?

To be honest I don't know. I just recall reading somewhere that someone was asked to remove their facial piercings at the Biometrics appointment.

If that happens to me there is no way I can remove them on the spot, that is why I was asking...

    Thanks for replying!

Well, hopefully they wont ask.... Good luck! I'd leave em in... but thats just me :) If they have to wait for you to take em out, maybe they'll just say... forget it! heh heh

True! ;) Besides there is nothing in the Biometrics appointment letter that mentions piercings... I also have funky-coloured hair, so I don't think they will ask me to change it to my natural colour for the Biometrics :P

    Thanks for the encouragement!

  6. CONGRATULATIONS to you all all who received their NOAs and Biometrics appointment.

This morning aftter reading some of you managed to enter your case numbers online I tried my luck and the receipt numbers finally went through.

I'm still awaiting to get my Biometrics appointment.

I would like to ask you guys a question. The site mentions that all my applications were last updated yesterday. Does this mean they've touched them or what? Since it was Sunday yesterday I dont anyone looked at my applications. I'm a bit confused.

When I click on all the receipt numbers they all more or less state the following:

On March 7, 2008, we received "all my APLICATIONS" , and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

I already got my NOAs describing that I shall be receiving a letter for Biometrics but nothing of the sort has arrived yet and none of the notices online mentioned about any appointment being made yet.

Any ideas or am I just worrying for nothing/ ;)

  7. Greetings:

I mailed our I-130 petition to the Chicago lock box on March 5, 2008 (overnight) and it was received on the 6th by Bustamante.

I have been told everything from two weeks to 90 days for the NOA-1 so I would like to keep track and see where it actually hits.

Check was cashed yesterday, March 12th. Moving pretty swiftly! Hopefully now they're working through the kinks...

If you filed in March 2008 or thereabouts, please post so that we can track it.

    Thanks and Regards...

Hey! Just letting you know that there is already a thread for March Filers ;)

  12. I am a pakistani student and my girlfriend is from states.Am i allowed to marry a non european in england  ?

I believe to be able to marry in the UK you have to prove you have been living there for at least a few days (you might have to show utility bills, bank accounts, a lease, etc). Maybe you can check the Home Office website about the legalities of marrying in England and Wales. However this is what I found out doing a a quick search online:

    http://www.wedding-service.co.uk/marriage.htm

    Hope this is helpful!!!

  13. When I applied for a name change for my SS#, I was told that I don't need to change my name-it is optional. It is not a requirement. It applies to all identification. - a person has the right to keep their name from birth unless the country of origin has some regulation on this. I carried my ex-spouse name when I applied for my visa, all documents relating to USCIS was on my ex-spouse name. Passport, EAD, driver's license and correspondence. No questions. You just need to have joint proof of ownership, insurance, etc in your husbands name and the name you have on your passport for consistency.

Hope this will give you some peace of mind. All is good. Don't worry too much, keep yourself busy, volunteer, knit, travel and enjoy each other, take some pictures to remind you of the wonderful life you share with your husband.

I am not a lawyer nor have any legal background

p.s when I had my interview, I was never asked why I didn't change my name.

Thanks so much for all the help!!! :)

Many women file in their maiden name. You do not have to take your husbands name on marriage and I have yet to read where anyone was not approved because of it.

If you are asked about it at an interview then just answer the same as here. When you are eligible for citizenship you are also able to change your name then if you wish.

    Thanks so much!!! ;)

  14. I have already posted this question on the "AOS Paperwork Topic" but just in case I get a quicker response:

I applied for my AOS on my maiden name. This is because I'm a citizen from Spain (resident from the UK) and women there do not lose their maiden names when married. Nobody does. Therefor I did apply for my AOS on my maiden name since I would never be able to change my last name on my Spanish passport. In the event of me getting my GC in the future and traveling abroad I don't want to have problems by having a name that won't match my passport. Would this be a problem? I assume that since every country has its own bureaucracy this won't instigate any problems right?

The reason of the question is that I have read in this forum other members mentioning the name change as a proof of legitimate marriage, however in my case I won't be able to use my husband's last name for the reasons stated above. Hopefully this won't be a problem.

    Anyone... Anyone... Bueller??? :P

Anyone knows the answer, any suggestions?

  15. No. Just two. The check for 1010 includes the biometrics fee. Both made payable to Dept. of Homeland security. On the I-485 instruction sheets indicate that 1010 will be the only thing you need to mail it since it includes the biometric fee.

I sent 3 and they cashed them all. So I guess it doesn't make a difference. However I was advised by a paralegal to write 3 and specify on the cheques what the payment was for. They have all been cashed and I have already got the NOAs, so I guess it doesn't matter if you write 2 or 3, since the aforementioned $930 plus $80 belong to the I-485 application.

  16. Because each one is sent to a different office, have two checks ready. One for the I-130, and one for the I-485.

Ultimately, USCIS will unite the two forms.

To my understanding (and as advised by an immigrations paralegal) there are 3 cheques to send, 1 for the I-130 ($355) and 2 for the I-485 ($930 check in payment of the I-485 and $80 for biometrics).

  18. Hello everyone!

Just curious if you were able to set up an account with USCIS so you can check your case status online. I did try to add my receipt numbers to the portfolio but there was an error in the validation and it said:

    Customer Portfolio Insert Failed

Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the application receipt number.

I did put the receipt number correctly. Well, maybe this might be what others were saying about the problems of checking the case status online. Hoping that everything will get through soon.

Hi again David-Rhosie! I just opened an account with USCIS and I had the same problem when adding my receipt numbers to my profile. This is the message I got:

    Validation Error(s)

You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

    * Customer Portfolio Insert Failed

    * Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the app receipt number.

Maybe since we just received our NOAs very recently they have not updated our cases online.

I have done more research and this is what I found on the USCIS website regarding the aforementioned matter:

  19. depends which name she wants to use in the future! the name youre going to use in your aos paperwork is going to be on your green card! if you need to change the name on your green card later you have to file a certain form and pay a lot of money for the change.

    so deciede wisely!

So I can we go ahead and put my last name as her last now even if we haven't done any changes on her social security card. I wasn't sure when to do it because I know we got married but didn't think we could change her last name until we had her social security card changed over. So does that go for the bank account too or do you have to have an ID showing she has my last name?

When I went to open up the new joint account with husband I just showed them my marriage certificate with my passport and that was fine, til now I still havent changed my maiden name to married name at the social security office since I guess its not neccesarry I dont want to make 2 trips so I will just go change it when I receive green card that way I shoot two birds at once  And yeah it would be better to put her married name on all documents that way in my opinion it proofs its a ligitimate marriage and all that.... Good luck to you
