I really find it hard to understand how these sorts of mistakes are made by USCIS. Do they not know their own policies? Christ, nearly everyone here on VJ knows the rules about the medical and vaccination supplement for K1s by now.
It's really not that hard to understand. If we don't do the job right we suffer the consequences. If they don't do it right they get a bigger budget and more bungling beaurocrats.

We applied for AOS 16 months ago and we're still waiting for an interview date. We had one scheduled last year but it was cancelled with no explanation given. That was 9 months ago. We had put a lot of things on hold until after AOS like my wife working, buying a house, me changing jobs, having a baby, etcetera. We finally decided to move on with our lives because we really have no clue when they are going to reschedule our interview and they won't tell us anything.
So the answer is yes, it sometimes takes more than 180 days. I think it depends on what office you go through. Mine is Tampa and it's very slow.

We've been waiting 14 months in Tampa with no end in sight. I wouldn't pay much attention to the current processing date that they publish. Ours says the same thing but we know of lots of people who've gotten their greencards who filed AFTER us. One thing I've noticed about USCIS is that they don't feel any obligation to give any information about the status of your case or the true processing times. Our online status never gets touched while others do. We got an Infopass appointment and went and talked to someone and asked why it never got touched and the lady said just don't pay any attention to it because it's not accurate. I wanted to ask why they bothered to have it then but I didn't.
You have to remember these are government employees and they aren't accountable to anyone, especially us measly old taxpayers.
We applied to adjust my status in May of '05, so 10 months now. I just checked my district office (New Orleans) for processing dates, and they are only on Aug '04!!!! I know the office closed for a while after the hurricane, but it was way behind even before that! Anyone else looking at a ridiculously long wait for interview? This grey/limbo status is sooo frustrating...couldn't be included in our mortgage application, can't sign up for 401K at work and having to apply for another EAD just wears me down! Anyone elses case look as drawn out as ours? -
I wouldn't put much stock in that web-site. We were put on it a few weeks after we got our NOA but it hasn't been touched in more than a year now even though it should have been changed several times. We got an Infopass appointment because nothing ever seemed to happen in our case and we were told not to pay any attention to that website because sometimes it isn't updated. I wanted to ask why they had the website therefore but I figured it was a pointless question.

I hope your congressman is better than mine. My congressman is Mike Bilirakis of Florida and all he did was regurgitate back to me the same useless information I could get on my own.
