  1. Dear Fellow Members, For IR5 (Parent), we are currently working on civil documents. One of the required documents in CEAC states: Photographs. I submitted an inquiry to NVC regarding this and their response was to "...upload two passport-size photographs". I have read the details of photo-related instructions at NVC website, but could not find the answers to following questions. 1. Should these two photographs be two different images of the applicant? Or, can they be just one original .jpeg image file duplicated? 2. How do I combine two .jpeg image files into a single file unless I create a 2-page .pdf combining them? NVC guideline for image seems to require .jpg format. If you have any information related to above questions, kindly share. Thanks.
  2. My parent's I-130 is finally approved. Here is the timeline: Applied: July 2022 RFE: June 2023 REF response: June 2023 Approval: November 2023 We have chosen consular processing, so now we have to work with NVC.
  3. Congratulations. Which service center ? My parent's case is "active review" since July 2022.
  4. I filed I-130 for my (widow) mother and my Mother's name spelling in my BC is different from what it is in her passport. (It is not a wrong spelling, as you know same name in a foreign language can be spelled in English in multiple ways although they have identical pronunciation.) I am sharing my experience so far in this process. I am not a lawyer and am not trying to provide you with any legal advice. Your experience may be different from mine. While submitting I-130, along with my original BC, I included a letter (that I signed) explaining this spelling mismatch. As I anticipated, USCIS sent me an RFE asking to submit "secondary evidence" as much as possible. There were many options listed under what they accept as secondary evidence, we chose one such option: "Government records or identification documents". In this category, I submitted my (previous) Indian passports and (current) OCI card. (I guess, for Father, there will likely be a few more options in India, as our school records typically mention Father's name). USCIS letter mentioned "Affidavits" as a "tertiary evidence". We submitted two affidavits from relatives who have direct personal knowledge of my birth event. I have sent my RFE response more than 50 days ago. Still waiting to know the outcome. If USCIS does not approve this, we shall probably go for DNA test (that the RFE letter also mentioned as "Supplement" to primary or secondary evidence"). Best wishes.
  5. Hi All, I filed I-130 for my mother in July 2022 by postal mail. Later, I registered it online by using the online access code received from USCIS. In June 2023, I received an RFE letter (asking for birth-related supporting documents) and my response (with supporting documents) reached USCIS by postal mail also in June (based on courier tracking number). I have a few questions regarding that: (i) The status of my case (inside USCIS online account) does not have any information about RFE process (no record of RFE issuance or response). It is stuck in "actively reviewed" as it has been for previous one year. So, I have no way of knowing if they received my response (other than Courier tracking). Is it very unusual to have no mention of RFE in case status? (ii) I read in some online resources (not from USCIS) that we can raise a service request if more than 60 days pass after an RFE response is sent. Is it correct? If so, can I do it by filling the online service request tool or do I have to call/chat with a representative? (iii) My concern is that, since USCIS online account/case status tool does not show any information about this entire RFE process, when I talk to a representative (to raise an inquiry post 60 days from RFE response), she/he will have no knowledge of the RFE at all. Is this a valid concern? (iv) My initial case receipt was sent from Nebraska. However, the mailing address for sending RFE response was Texas Service Center (TSC). Does it mean, to check processing times in USCIS webpage, I need to choose TSC as my processing location? The processing times for same form vary a bit based on what location we choose. Appreciate input from fellow VJ users.
