Unfortunaly the naturalization paper just says the country of birth, not the city.

We'll figure something out though...

Hi MENA forum,

my husband was born in Iran (he's a USC), but we need his birth certificate to get out marriage recognized by Belgium (they want an official document with the city of birth on). His birth certificate was lost about 20 years ago.

how do we go about this?

hey everybody,

good to hear lots of people getting green cards and approvals. I`ve been off the forum due to big computer problems, but i thought i`d share my interview experience last Friday in Boston.

we were about 5 minutes early, there were a lot of people in the waiting room, and a lot with translators and laywers.

We waited about half an hour before we were called in. they have sone 24 offices or so in one big hallway. The office we had to go to was the second last. My husband says: `thank god i didnt go the gym yet` and the guy responds `yeah, but it doesnt help... i know`

anyway, the ice was broken. so we get in, swear in, he asks how we met. My husband tells him we went for salsa, and he asks if we still dance salsa. We say it`s been a while but yes, and then he starts telling about a tango school (we want to do tango too). he goes through some papers and notices my husband`s from Iran, and he says we`ll have very multicultural children (and then he talks about his wife and how they met and so on). He asks what my husband does for a living (he`s a student) and jokes about me supportig him (i work halftime)

He asked for some originals (pasport, birthcertificate, naturalisation, marriagecertificate) and he asked me the questions on the form (ever commited a crime, planning to do bigamy,...)- he jokes i`n boring cause i answer `no` to everything.

he took the I93 out of my pasport, took my EAD and my AP and says we`re al good. We go back to the waiting room for 10 minutes and then i get a letter that states i`ve been approved for a greencard, i`ll receive the card in 2 weeks to 2 months.

If i need to leave the country before the card comes we can take the paper back to the office and they`ll stamp my pasport.

it was 10:30 AM and we were all done.

i`m still waiting for my card to come. there`s no rush.

hi jhunjhun, i'm sorry to hear that your EAD has not been approved but just continue to be patient. it's a sad reality that USCIS sometimes don't review cases in the order they received them. i had the same frustrations when I was still in the K1 process but what can we do right. i don't think they will deny you on the spot just because you were not able to provide 2008 tax return. maybe you can bring with you your wife's latest pay stubs and employment letter along with your other evidence. you are even luckier than us because you will soon get your greencard unlike us we don't know when are we going to be interviewed and all so just be patient ok. by the way i'm just curious are you also a filipino or just your wife?

i think the paystubs and employment letter are a good idea. That`s what i would do.

We made together in 2008 about 1000 USD, and that`s all me, the non-USC, so we`re WAAAAAAAAY beneath the poverty line. I hope to have a job by the time we interview, cause otherwise we have no income to show... (my husband is graduating in May of this year though)

I badly needs my EAD so that I can apply for SSN before my interview. I need SSN to apply for income tax return....do you guys think if we can't provide 2008 income tax return if it asked..are we denied on the spot or they might request us an RFE? It's very frustrating but I can't do anything this time but to be patient and to wait!

i dont understand. why would they deny you for a tax return?

to be honost, not really. I kinda look like this . the lady never said she took a picture. ah well, I`m just happy i got it ( got a totally out of the blue interview on Friday - basically i called my last work for a reference - i only worked there for a month on my temp EAD-stamp - and they offered me a job instead :blink: , so i`m happy i`ll be able to show them i`m allowed to work)

but at least the pic in my DL looks decent, guess i`ll use that one more :blush:

i guess yours will be in the mail soon too :thumbs:

Hi,
I was wondering when to do the medical exam.

Our case got approved through email a few days ago, and I wonder if I have to wait until packet 3 reaches my home address?

Or can I make the appointment before that?

you can make the appointment before that.

Packet 3 has to be sent back to the embassy, is that after the medical exam is done? Or before? according to their instructions, after the medical. Or you can just tell them when you`re gonna have all the paperwork. they are not very difficult about it.

Do I need my fiance's original birth certificate or is a copy enough? I think I took an original one (not a 100% sure though). go to the city hall and ask for an international birthcertificate, i dont know about other cities but in Ieper it was free. I got 4 or so (just to make sure).

How long do I have, once packet 3 reaches my home address, to send it back? I believe at least a couple of months. The 129F approval is good for 4 months. But again, they are not very difficult if it takes you longer.

What about packet 4 ? Is that after packet 3 is received by the embassy?yes, it`s just the interview letter. You`ll get it about a week after you sent your P3 back.Gosh I am more and more confused about this whole process and it's even harder since we're both out of our home countries all the time! if you got more questions, feel free to PM me, i`ll try to help.

i never got my license in Belgium, and honostly i dont regret it one little bit.

i got my permit right after i got my SSN (about a 3 weeks after i entered). i could take the road test like the day after (cause i`m clearly over 18). I took 5 hours of classes (we dont have a car) and the road test was the easiest road test i have ever heared off.

comparing that to the road test in Belgium...

and, i would have to do it again anyhow.

In massachusetts, just got to make sure you get your permit on time.

geez, i received the third email this morning, telling me my EAD has been approved. the date in it changes too. what's going on here? im totally unsure now.. whether my approval is true at all, or if's just a glitch in their database or something.. anyone got a 3rd mail too?

i`m not sure about this,

the date of approval changed from the 9th to the 10th and then today it changed to the 15th... it`s only my first email, but that`s just cause my case `couldnt be found` before...

i`m sure we`ll get them soon.

every day i`m so excited to pick up the mail, i`m expecting my AP, EAD and DL ...

Thanks for the replys! I did call USCIS over Christmas break and all the operator did was tell me that they rec. my case.

That's about all the customer service line can tell you...their existence seems to be useless....

when i called the first person said ` there seems to be a problem indeed, i cant see it either`, then they transferred me to a second person, who could see the status of my case(s) and said they were pending and in MO...
