  1. You don't even need the express envelopes to send it express, you just pay the express rate and use your own envelope. They even sell express stamps. USPS will get it there by the 27th or 28th at the latest if you send it before noon on the 26th.

I don't know why I didn't think of that. The young woman at the UPS Store was swamped, and we didn't feel like taking any chances. I'll remember this, and go directly to the 'main' Post Office here in town tomorrow (early) in order for this to take place. Thanks again everybody, and Merry Christmas.

  2. you received it in October and you are replying at the last minute. You cannot hand deliver to a government office, end of story. I can guarantee if you try hard enough you can get USPS to deliver it on time. If you are willing to drive an hour to drop it off, I am sure you can find another US post office a lot closer than an hour who has the envelopes, or a postal center

Correct. I was actually able to refinance the house, and have my Wifes name added to the Title of the house. Hooray! Getting all of the loan docs back, and having the paperwork notarized took that long, but it was definitely worth it. Exactly $550/month worth it. Now, the race is on to get the paperwork to the USCIS by Friday afternoon. I think the USPS deserves another shot. Thanks for helping calm us down, everybody!

  3. I know for a fact they will ALL be open on 12/26 at 8:00 am, the 800 number will be avavilable at 9:00 am for calls.

You really think they won't lose this important package if I opt for a Next Day Delivery option? I was also thinking about going to the same Post Office that the CSC uses and pay for 'normal' processing to make sure it gets there without any difficulty. Not sure, though.

  4. I guess my question is how many US post offices or UPS stores will you drive past in that one hour drive to a building that may or maynot accept mail at their door. Since 9/11 most US government offices do not accept mail delivery to their offices unless it is delivered by a reliable agency.

BTW both of these agencies the USPS or the UPS delivery mail next day guarantee delivery.

My question is how many USPS Offices will be stocked with Priority Mail envelopes??? Not much time is on my side, and after running in circles today, I want a sure bet. UPS does not deliver to Post Office Boxes - Leidys and I are reluctant to use the USPS between two major holidays.

  5. My Wife and I received an RFE for her I-751 in October, and the paperwork needs to be in the USCIS' hands no later than 12/31/12. FedEx doesn't deliver to Post Office boxes, the CSC Hotline will be unattended until Wednesday - Dec. 26th, and the nearby UPS Store ran out of USPS Priority envelopes due to the Holiday rush. This paperwork needs to be at the USCIS by Friday, or I will be very nervous.

Question: If I make the 1 hr. drive to Laguna Niguel, is it possible that I can just drop the 1.5 lb. packet through a drop slot, or turn it in, and have the RFE notice stamped? My Wife and I can't leave any of this to chance.

  7. hello ken-y-leidys,

I just want to understand a lil bit more about ur case since I'm afraid I will fall into RFE soon. RFE means request for evidence? Would you please give us more details that what other evidences do they need from you guys, and the time frame to submit those documents before they make final decision? Did you guys get an appointment for 2nd interview or just RFE?

    Thanks in advance.

My wife and I received an I-797E, Notice of Action allowing up until December 31, 2012 for me to 'submit ALL evidence requested at one time' or the application will be "denied." The second page is titled, "REQUEST FOR EVIDENCE." A related thread appears at this VisaJourney link.

The major headings under, "Evidence of Good Faith Marriage" are; Birth Certificate (of offspring), Residence, and Financial Records. These items need to span the last two years, and obtaining additional proof won't be difficult in the least. It just looks like more work, making more photo copies, and more personal expense on my end. :bonk:

  8. Is it absolutely necessary to get the employment letter? If yes, can it be a scanned copy or does it need to be the original? Just afraid the original won't get there on time/gets lost.

    Thanks

I had mine - you want to come to the Embassy 100% prepared. Your director of Human Resources can prepare this. I had mine ready within one week. Supply the copy, but keep the original in case it gets asked for at a later time.

  9. Question for all of you, does my fiancee need to send her passport or take her passport to Bogota for the visa?

Your Fiance needs to carry her Passport to the US Embassy. This becomes the most important document, as the US Embassy inserts a special visa stamp which allows your beneficiary to leave Colombia and come to the US. Definitely have your Fiance bring her Passport to the Embassy in Bogota.

  10. I would also call or go to your local DHL office directly just in case they DO have it and it's not showing up in the system. It doesn't hurt to check.

    Diana

Diana, you are right. My Wife didn't get a telephone call when her Visa arrived in Barranquilla nearly 2 weeks after her approval. In fact, the "Express Mail" people didn't raise a finger to even call her. When she asked, they told her that they didn't deliver to her Barrio. :bonk: I booked her flight 6 weeks out from the time of her approval.

  11. Here's another random question...my fiancee will be arriving at Miami International Airport...do you (or does anyone) know exactly where i should go to meet her?

International Arrivals? I flew in from Colombia and after leaving through Customs, I noticed International ticketing counters for various airlines as I was checking back in to International departures. That information should be provided according to the airline your Fiance is traveling with and the fact that this is an International flight.

  12. Just a quick update, see my revised timeline below, my fiancee and her son arrived POE at LAX on Friday night 7/27/12.

Congratulations! You just missed the Colombian Festival in Pico Rivera earlier this month. There is lots to do in this area for Colombianos. Here is a great newspaper/website for Colombians in the Los Angeles area that is produced here in Riverside, CA.

  13. Can someone give me the cliff's notes of the form names i will need to file right after the wedding, which office i will send the forms too, as well as anything else i should be doing right now to prepare? Thank you...i greatly appreciate it!!

Diana was right about the Cliff's Notes link, wrong about the visa drama...I think. :bonk: You get tired of $$Paying Money$$ for the AOS and the ROC. Drama I can live without.

  14. Hola Amigos -

It's been a while since I posted anything here, Vanessa and I are doing well. She's actually down south visiting with the family in Medellin for a few weeks now while I'm back home in Florida watching the kittycats and working. I actually ran into a fellow VJ couple recently at a local club night (Dave & Magda from Coconut Creek - Hola!) Anyway, I have an interesting situation that I may be able to share with someone here on the Colombia Club to both of our advantage.

I'm currently sitting on a sizable pile of airline points with Spirit Airlines that I can also redeem at a better than normal rate as a Spirit credit card holder. Probably going to let the card go next month when the free first year offer expires, and then I'll lose the preferred redemption status, and soon after the points themselves will expire too. Right now we can't use any more of the points for any particular dates that we or friends or family can travel in the foreseeable future. If anyone here on the forum needs a trip to Colombia in the next few weeks or months that falls within the airline's award seat availability, I'd be happy to strike a private deal to redeem some of my miles for your flights, and let you have them for something well under what the going rates would be, rather than let them go to waste, so that way everybody wins (well, everybody but the airline, LOL.) Spirit flys nonstop from Fort Lauderdale Florida to Cartegena, Bogota, Medellin & Armenia (but the Cartegena flights actually need way fewer points to redeem than the other cities.) Points needed also vary widely by available date ranges. They go lots of other places too, but because of the special deals I have, my points could be worth as much as 8 round trips between Ft Lauderdale & Cartegena (or 4 trips to the other Colombian cities), so it seemed that this was the best place to ask if anyone else was interested. Anyone who'd like to give this a go with me, just send me a private message here on the forum and we'll exchange closer contact info (cell phone is best for me) and see if I can get tickets on dates that will work for you. Not sure exactly how much longer I'll have the full access to preferred point redemption, but I believe I'll lose that advantage at some time in mid August.

I look forward to hearing from some of you on this soon, for now I'll be busy for a while scrolling back a few months through the postings to see what's been going on here in Colombia Club, LOL

    Adios - Dan Harris

    292607_100652233408928_954751317_n.jpg

That is very generous of you, Dan! Leidys and I may return in another 2 yrs. I wish I knew this last summer, when Leidys returned to visit her family. Good to hear that everything is going well!

  15. Waiting sucks but remember you ARE legal during this time. You are permitted to work and travel but remember you must update your employer with your receipt showing your extension, and if travelling you must take the ORIGINAL NOA1 with you together with your expired greencard.

My Wife was nervous about traveling, but took her green card and NOA-1. The CBP Officer asked for her green card and didn't want to bother with the NOA-1 as it would hold up the pedestrian line in San Ysidro, CA. We take all forms with us regardless, because you never know...

    Thanks for the information!

    -Ken

  16. Yes, absolutely. One way tickets are for the most part less expensive than round trip tickets, however, every now and then a round trip ticket will be less expensive than buying one one way.

    Diana

Any ticket is always cheaper when the taxes aren't included in the final price of the airline ticket. Truth in advertising.. :bonk:

  17. That's correct. She can buy a one-way ticket if she wants to since she is using a visa with the intention to reside permanently in the US, so a return ticket is not needed.

    Diana

Exactly what my wife Leidys did. Also, on the I-134 (I think), she will fill this out when she touches down at the airport and walks through Customs. You won't be able to have any contact with her as she walks through Customs, but she will be able to answer these questions herself. Congratulations!

  18. All she needs is her passport to fly nationally. By the way, take lots of pictures with your family as you will need to send more evidence of your relationship with your AOS package.

    Diana

Diana - At my AOS Interview, the CO just yelled at us for 50 minutes. He argued with me about my financial forms that I had (all in order, thanks to VJ!) and yelled at me because I couldn't understand his Español w/a lisp, and at minute 45, I became tired of watching him try to break my wife down (to cry), so I pushed a photo in front of him - my Mother, Leidys and I standing at my Father's Military Memorial Ceremony. That shut him up. I just stared out the window by that point, because I don't let people yell at me for the hell of it. :bonk:

Photographic proof, boarding itineraries, hotel receipts, etc. are very helpful. So will be letters from the employer showing that the spouse was added to their insurance - showing financial liability are very important. It is a good idea to start preparing the AOS packet after the K-1 is approved. It just doesn't stop, does it...

  19. Hey Ken! It's nice to see you around here. I was thinking of you guys because I saw the commercial for the Colombian Festival in Anaheim next week. Looks like fun.

Take care and thanks for dropping by.

    Diana

I'm getting nostalgic, Diana... :crying: I met my Wife exactly four years ago (this Thursday July 12th). This forum and your advice prepared me so well for what to do. I even was able to anticipate the difficult Consular interviews and still make it through with flying colors thanks to everyone here at Visa Journey.

Good luck with your Consular interviews, everyone! You came to the right place for help! :help:

  20. haha, actually they never asked her that...she said it was way, way easy. They asked what my profession was, when we met, what her profession was, and how my family felt about it...that was basically it for the interview. She said they didn't even look at all the pictures, and there were no trick questions or anything! They just took her forms, asked her those basic few questions, then smiled and said "your visa is approved" She was out of there by 8:47am.

So now i've got a random question for you....I'm preparing to buy her plane ticket. She wants to visit her family in Cienaga first and work a few more weeks to leave her mom with some more money, and we're aiming for an August 16 arrival date. Probably going to buy her plane ticket within the next few days. Will it be cheaper to send her money to buy the ticket, or can i buy the ticket for her from one of my preferred travel sites like cheapoair.com? Might be a dumb question, but if I want to buy her ticket online, how exactly do i do it? Just enter all her info, pay for it, and then send her the email with the e-ticket number?

That interview sounded like a breeze. Good to hear this! As for an airline ticket purchase, I would first confirm with your Fiance precisely when she is comfortable leaving Colombia. When my Wife's Visa was approved (early October), there were 3 1/2 weeks until her Birthday. I gave her a lead-time of 6 weeks since I would have the week of Thanksgiving off from work. This also gave her the opportunity to decorate her family's house for Christmas - her favorite holiday of the year. So, when Leidys arrived in late November, she was emotionally ready to be in the US and had plenty of time to visit with her amigas and familia. She had time to emotionally move here w/o too much sadness for missing everyone she knew all her life.

Ask your Fiance to purchase the one-way ticket since she will need her Cedula to make the ticket purchase. I attempted to purchase Leidys' one-way ticket at Copaair.com - but it was a complicated procedure involving her Cedula# and I knew if I made a mistake, getting my money back would take even more time. If your Fiance needs time to work and help her Mother, I would give her as much time as she needed since weddings are expensive and I did not have extra $$ to wire back to my wife's family on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Also, if you give your Fiance time to work, she will understand that it will take her efforts to provide for her family back home in Colombia.

If you purchase your Fiance's ticket on-line, just have her Cedula# and any other related information ahead of time. You can call the airline hotline and with the help of a bilingual ticketing agent and your Fiance on the other line, I am sure you could also make the purchase quickly. But, my advice is to do things in the less direct way in order that your Fiance can go through with her emotional inventory work. She will be in utter pain for the first 6 months that she is here without her family. My Wife was, and all of her friends from this forum went through it as well.

My Wife and her ENTIRE FAMILY hired a full bus to take her to the airport! Everyone crying the whole way, no less...
