  1. Hmm I guess I'm just curious - if all my documents are in my current name, why would it matter? Passport is proof of citizenship right?
  2. Could I get some opinions on this please? We are going to submit soon
  3. Ah alright. So do you think I can just leave it out for now, and then IF they ask, I can submit the legal document?
  4. But my passport is in my current legal name. Will they ask if evidence that I am really a US Citizen?
  5. I'm filling out the i-130 and it asks if I used any previous names. I had a legal name change a couple of years back. On the i-130 instructions, it states "If either you or the person you are filing for is using a name that is not the same name shown on the relevant documents, you must file your petition with copies of the legal documents reflecting the name change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree, or court order." Do I need to provide my legal name change document if all of my relevant documents (passport, ID, paystubs etc) matching my current legal name?
  6. We printed out the forms and are handwriting it. I put my current address in the mailing address section. But in Address History, it says only put your current address if different from mailing. So do I skip it? The end date is PRESENT. Should I put the start date of my current address in Address 1 and move onto my previous residence?
  7. I'm just a little worried the officer will not be satisfied because I've only been at this job for a little over a month
  8. Should I get them to write a letter that I will be at this job for a while, and that I am a reliable worker etc etc?
  9. So I was unemployed until recently, but now got a job (it doesn't quite hit the requirements, but we have savings much more than x3 the difference) Should I get my employer to write me a letter confirming my position/salary? And what other stuff should she/he put in the letter? Also, what is included in the Cover Letter?
  10. She doesn't have any American documents - passport/drivers license etc as of yet. They are all Finnish. So wouldn't it be easier just to receive her ssn/gc in her new name? And is it true that the marriage certificate is a legal name change document?
  11. We will file before her ESTA is up. But isn't it a hassle to change your name after getting a GC/SSN? Wouldn't it be easier just to do everything now and she will get the ssn/gc in her new name?
  12. I guess I mean specifically for the AOS. Will the officer question it since her surname is different from the marriage certificate. But I also read that the marriage certificate is legal name change document.
  13. Her birth certificate, passport, driver's license in her country etc.
  14. Hey guys, Quick question. We want to do an Adjustment of Status for my fiancee. I am filling out an online marriage license application for our wedding. My fiancee wants to take my surname - and there is a spot in the application that allows us to put new name after marriage. But the issue is, she won't be able to change her name later (until after she gets a social security number I believe). So will this cause an issue if all of her documents state her maiden name but our marriage certificate says her future surname?
  15. I don't have a credit card atm. I just use a checkings account. Should I open a joint one with her? Or just a joint credit card? Isn't both too excessive?
  16. Is it better to open a joint savages account or a join credit card? What can I email my apartment to convince them? They said without legal residency, she cannot. Even though her ESTA is still valid.
  17. How do some people add their gf to their lease? My apartment says they cannot unless she is a permanent resident or at least has legal right to stay (AOS pending).
  18. I am simply asking if all the evidence of bonafide marriage needs to be filed right away. Because if we apply for AOS first, we can add her to my lease. What other evidence can we use? Should I add her to my health insurance? etc etc
  19. Do I need to submit my certificate of naturalization (I am a naturalized citizen) or will a U.S passport be suffice?
  20. Hey guys. Does the i-130 require proof of bonafide marriage? And do we have to submit the proof when we file the AOS or is it required later? I'm not sure sure what we can provide, since we did not plan this. We can't add her to the lease until we do the AOS. We have 2 years+ worth of chat messages. AirBnB together. Plane tickets traveling together, visiting each other's countries. How else can we prove bonafide marriage? I have a 401k I can add her as beneficiary to. Maybe add her to my internet/electric bill account? Open a joint savings account?
  21. Hmm but she isn't brining in her items though. Her parents are shipping them over.
