  1. Hello all. We received an RFE because my wife entered the country on a Fiance Visa in 2004. She stayed less than 90 days and returned without any problems. No marriage or divorce obviously, and this was 5 years ago.

So they ask for Proof?? Well, no marriage cert because no marriage, no divorce cert, because no divorce, and who would have a copy of a flight from 5 years ago??? So what do they want?? Only a statement stating these facts?? Notarized?

Seems pretty straight forward... but still confusing to me. They asked all these questions during the interview with the Embassy... surely they know if she was married or not.. it would be on record.. any help would be great!!! Thanks, John

  2. Thank you all for the help, yes, sorry I forgot to say.... daughter is 14 soon 15 so I know the fee's are $2,020.00 for both. Does the Cashier's Check need to be made out separately for each person, or just one for both for the total???

The I-131 for travel.... they will want to travel home for vacation, but I don't know what the dates or duration will be... do I just wing it??? Guess??? Throw a date in there and be able to use it at any point in time?

Yes, daughter needs ssn so I guess I will fill out everything..... one for Mom and one for daughter.... if I over do it, they can toss what I don't need I guess.

    Thanks again, John

  3. Hey Everyone !!!! Angelica and I were approved for our visa on Monday !!!! We are still here in Bogota waiting to fly together to the USA and start our life together.

The process to me was a little confusing at first. Got in line around 6:30, entered and went in the general direction of the others in front of me. Waited in a line to check our appointment letter. Next we waited.... waited....waited until around 9:30 when somehow Angelica could hear her named called to window 31,,,, I couldn't understand the loudspeaker at all, and all the noise from other people around me... it's good she wasn't in the restroom cause there would be no way for me to understand the call. We were at the window for around 20 minutes or so.... the off to the fingerprint waiting area. Another 30 minute wait or longer.... she was called and printed. The last window, 4 I think,,, we were called maybe another 30 minutes after the fingerprints... her interview was fast, then my turn.... 3 questions... how did we meet? Do I know her sister, where is she? And one question about our future wedding. After that she said, "Okay-now you need to go pay the Domesa", Congratulations, you are approved. YES !!!!! I got to go now, but any questions please feel free to write !!!!! Thanks to all who helped so much !!!!!! Chao, John

  4. Hello all, I am looking for some help with my soon to be step-daughter. She will finish her school year in November and then (in Colombia) she would only have 2 years of HS left to graduate. But, in the USA she is in the age group for a Freshman. Of course I want her to excel, but I do not think the good old US school system completely understands that "technically" she should be entering in her Junior year next. So, what advise does anyone have? Also, what about school transcripts?? Her mother has all her "grades" since HS, but did anyone ever get "transcripts" from the school system that differs from what a parent would receive??? If so, what is it called in Spanish because my fiance doesn't really know what to ask for from the school, if there is any such a thing.... Thanks so much, John

PS, if anyone has a stepdaughter around 14 when she moved to the USA from Colombia, it would really help to talk to you specifically.

  5. I have a question about this subject also.... Diana, Angie will be here first, and then her daughter will come in December.... you must file this prior to the end of 90 days for Angie, as we will be wed during this time, but with her daughter coming in December (2 months later) and she is nearly 15, it doesn't matter that we file at the same time as no cost savings will come my way... correct... and furthermore, she will have 90 days from time of entering the country,,, so if she comes in 1st of Dec, she will need to be filed by the end of Feb. Correct??? Thanks!!!

  6. Hello to all :) Not getting too far ahead of ourselves, but here is a simple question. Our interview is on a Monday, and I have no option other than to return from Bogota back home to the USA Thursday. I notice it takes a few days to get the visa, can we speed it up any?? Say... by Wednesday pick up or delivery within the city of Bogota? Maybe special request?? Anyone do this? Or is it just the luck of the draw on how busy they are? Thanks!!!

  7. I have a hard time believing that a woman shouldn't wear her "engagement" ring, as a matter of fact, an engagement ring is meant to be worn prior to the wedding from the night you proposed. Now for a man, that's different.... one should never wear a ring until after "with this ring, I do wed". Good Luck!!

I know we still have a way to go, but I want to get everyting in order early...

So, I was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to take our wedding rings to our interview (k-1). We got them a few months ago and they are inscribed with each other's names. We have been wearing them to stay close to each other, but we still have the box they came in. I was thinking to get them polished up to look brand new, and put them back in the box, and I will put my engagement ring back on. Here's the only thing that worries me, his ring is inscribed with what my name will be after I take his last name. Will they take this as a sign that we are already married?

I was just thinking this could be used as proof that we are planning on getting married.

Any thoughts? Feelings? Just plain blabber?

Ok, I think I am starting to loose it. Tooo mucho stressss.

Hi all, I searched the forum but haven't seen anything yet.... I am wondering how I will be able to claim my new bride for my taxes, change my W-4 status to married, when it will be November when it happens??? She won't have a SSN yet,,, at least I don't think so... it takes 3 months right??? So do I go sit with a tax specialist??? Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!! John

You can claim your wife once you're married - this is for W4/tax-withholding purporses - you simply complete a new W4 at your workplace and that's it - they may/may-not ask for a marriage certificate.

As for IRS purposes - you can chose to claim her at the time you file your ITR (presumably some time in 2009).

Social security card usually takes about a month (2 weeks after she arrives to apply, 2-4 weeks to get the card).

  11. Hi Diana, I would really like to send you an email for some specific questions... and I tried, but your inbox is full :( any options??? Thanks, John

So I'm browsing through Youtube and came across this immigration "guru". It looks like he's making bank from giving out basic immigration advice on the radio. Anyone up for the challenge? All you need is a very thick NY accent and you're in.

"So yu wuant an easiah oh feasteh visa?" Then yell it even louder to sound important and with a much thickah new yok accent "SO YU WUANT AN EASIAH OH FEASTEH VISA?!!" Man, this guy is good.

Sorry for the links but I couldn't figure out how to post the Youtube videos on here.

  12. We are planning on having the delivery service deliver the visa to the apartment we will be renting during the interview process and leave from Bogota to Miami. They do not have to deliver it to her hometown, but you do need to have the address of where you are staying, stay put until they deliver it, and the charges are less because it is in Bogota, not Medelin. So yes, what you are planning will work, just don't be out messing around while waiting, if your not there to sign for it,,,, you will be in a mess trying to get it delivered again... Good Luck!!

This question is geared towards any that had an interview in Bogota. We would like for my wife to fly direct from Bogota to Florida. As it is right now with the new mailing the visa thing and no longer able to pick it up, do you think we would be able to have it mailed locally in Bogota so she doesnt have to go all the way back to Medellin?

Not very many replies from the Colombian people lately. Maybe my questions are out of the norm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  13. Hello all,

I am having a small issue, it is near our interview time, and I don't want to mess up this easy little form.... does anyone out there have an example of the I-134 with a child on it ?? I just need to ask you a few questions and maybe you can walk me through it if you would be so kind. I have asked a few questions on the site, but nobody that answered has any info about the form with dependents.

    Thanks!! John

  15. What is an IR (CR) visa..... nothing I need to worry about I guess,,,, so, I am doing a K-1, so I fill out a I-134 for Angelica, and a separate one for her 14 year old daughter? That seems odd to have two separate ones doesn't it? But if you say so... I trust you because I have seen your answers on this site a lot, you know your stuff.
