Your wife can travel to US as a visitor while her case is in AP. She needs to carry proof of her ties to Canada like return ticket (if traveling by air) or anything document on her name in Canada that shows she will be coming back just in case. If CBP officer ask her about visa case. Just tell them it is in processing.

Consulate asked you to wait because of DS-5535, They only need to cancel your old unexpired visa on third country passport before they stamp IR visa. I am hoping State Dept will switch security clearance to National Vetting Center for immigrant and K1 visas this year. That will expedite the clearance process for everyone. Keep your fingers crossed.

Someone told me that green card and SSN card (Selected YES on DS-260 form) are delivered in same mailing package. Is this correct?

>>Q1 do you think they will take again same amount of time to do the security check Montreal takes more time to clear cases. My dad applied applied for non-immigrant visa few years back, stuck in AP but the clearance was received in 1 month. Now it has been more than 5 months waiting on clearance for IR5 visa. >>Q2. Should I write an email and say that my security had already been done 2008 You may try that but according to this site its validity is 48 months https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security_Advisory_Opinion

If you have not received any email from consulate after interview. It means consulate is checking something on your application. Do you have any issue or violations when you used to live in USA. I know one case where mother of US citizen entered US illegally 20 years back and CO refused her application(221g) and sent her email to explain that (whether she committed fraud to enter US or just crossed border as illegal immigrant) but she was issued visa after 2 months. Anyway it is good sign and just wait and keep sending them email every 2 weeks as you do not know the reason.

You can provide new information to document collection window and CO at the time of interview. If your son passport is not issued yet. You can provide it later but consulate will serve you 221g for son application. If you have five days before interview., you can walk into passport office and apply for expedited passport.

If your mom submitted DS-5535 today. He can look at case updated case daily at the end of day for initially for 3-4 weeks. The case update will stop at some point then you can check weekly after that. You will get 3-4 case updates one after another once your case is about to clear. There is not hard and fast rules but it is more like a pattern.

My both parents were interviewed in Oct 2023. My dad was asked to submit DS-5535 and Resume. MTL returned passport to dad. You can look at the following spreadsheet for IR5 cases. It takes 6 months to more than year to get clearance from DC as there is a backlog of more 66000 cases in immigrant and K1 visas categories. Please enter your dates for the benefits of other people stuck in AP. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jV7rzX2eCRVoEDRhOtN9a6hDoHRLNEf1P3ZGZbQ0_Dc/edit#gid=0

221g Montreal IR1 Canada Post expedited vs pre-paid + Timeline
Leo The Great replied to et2024's topic in Canada
What additional documents you need to send them? If missing civil documents then you need to send passport with those missing documents and it may takes 4-6 weeks to issue visa once documents are received. If the consulate gave a link in the 221g print out to submit the online form with 15 years travel, work histories etc. then they served you DS-5535. In that case there is no use of sending passport at this point. The DS-5535 clearance takes 6 months to more than a year. Consulate need your passport to stamp visa. In that case passport can be mailed once the clearance is received. You may read this thread as mentioned above to get some idea about processing times. -
Got a 221(g) - should I have sent pictures with passport?

Generally consulate scan your photograph at document collection window to make a digital copy and return it to you. You do not need to provide it again if it is not older than 6 months. -
True - F1/J1 are non-immigrant cases. These cases have been processing via National Vetting Center since October 2022 which is more efficient than KFE vetting system that is used to process immigrant and K1 visas (as per Declaration of Carson Wu) It depends on nationality and the number of DS-5535 served at that consulate. Looks like specialized analysts are allocated per region and has expertise in security clearance of that region.
