  1. Hi folks, I had my interview on June 1st, medical on May 24th. Medical sent it over to embassy on May 31st but was given a 221g due to them not having the medical yet. The online tracker has remained as "Refused" case last updated June 1st. Yesterday I sent an email using the webform to say that the medical has been sent and to get an update on my application. Today I checked the status tracker and it now still says "Refused" but the Case Last Updated:06-Jun-2023 (today). Any ideas what this means? Is this indicative of a further issue or could this be that I could expect an update shortly? Would love to know other peoples timelines as I am in need of my passport back for travelling in the next few weeks. Thanks
  2. Thanks. Didn't even end up needing it today. Weirdly none of my documentation was taken regarding proof of assets either. I was given the 221g pending the medical results as they hadn't arrived yet but was given the A-OK otherwise despite them not reviewing my assets proof at all. I wish I had asked if they needed to see the proof because I'm a little worried now, even though he said "everything's good".
  3. Apologies for the delay. Mine went fine especially after the anxiety for the last few months in anticipation. Arrived a few mins early, checked into reception + filled out some forms and gave them my documentation. Then it was just a waiting process from there - first the vaccination check with nurses, then xray, then the main medical with the doctor. Very nice chap. Was in there nearly 2 hours and was probably about 5-7 people waiting along with me. Good luck!
  4. Thanks pushbrk. I have a follow-up question if thats okay? kinda freaking out as the interview is coming up. I'm still proceeding with assets first but have a backup form with a joint sponsor if needed. One thing I'm confused about is the documentation required for our joint sponsor. For our joint-sponsor we have: We do not have a 2022 tax return as she filed for an extension this year 2021, 2020, 2019 IRS transcript from their site W-2 I have read several posts online talking about 6 months of wageslips. Is that an official number required because I can't see that listed anywhere in the requirements? How many months of wageslips need to be shown? Another concern is that our joint sponsor files her taxes jointly with her spouse. He earns 0 income (retired) and we would only be relying on our joint sponsors income which more than meets the 125% requirement. Do we still need to fill in an i-864A because she lives with her husband? They are not a part of our household. Is there any other documentation we need for her as a joint sponsor outside of the above? Really hoping they accept our assets only filing. I will have a coversheet that's an excel table showing a breakdown of our assets and the surprlus we have above the 3x 125% minimum. Then following that we have our bank statements of all our assets. They are all currently held in cash but are in GBP, not USD. Hoping since we are interviewing in the UK that the asset currency won't be an issue. Many thanks
  5. Hi folks, Had my medical and reading everything back I realised I didn't take a urine test and forgot to ask about it when I was paying. Was this an error on our part or is this only required for specific individuals? I'm over 30 and married if that makes a difference. Worried that this might make my medical incomplete when I turn up for my interview. Thanks
  6. Thanks. One more thing I have noticed in the I-864A instructions is the following: Item Numbers 3.a. - 3.d. Assets. If you are the intending immigrant and have no accompanying dependents, then do not list your assets on this contract. Instead, you must list your assets in Part 7., Item Numbers 6. - 10. of the Form I-864 and do not need to complete this form So does that mean that I shouldnt fill in the I-864A form at all? Since we are only going to be using myself (immigrant) and my spouse (sponsor) assets and we have no other dependants or applicants?
  7. Got it. Just to be clear - is it better to provide just the two accounts that total the 100k USD as that meets the asset requirements? Or am I expected to show every financial account with any funds in them? Would rather make things real simple instead of handing over like 10 sets of financial documents with some accounts having a few hundred in them.
  8. I was under the impression that the I-864a can be used to show that the sponsor has family members (including the target immigrant) who's assets can be used to sponsor? From : https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/i-864-affidavit-faqs.html#aos16 Can the immigrant visa applicant count assets that he or she owns that are outside the United States, such as real estate or personal property? Yes, under the following conditions: The assets must be convertible to cash within 12 months. The applicant must show that the assets can be removed from the country where they are located. Many countries have limits on cash or liquid assets that can removed from the country. The net value of assets must be at least five times the difference between the sponsor's income and 125 percent of the poverty guideline for the household size. The visa applicant needs to file a Form I-864A to have his or her assets included in the minim
  9. So in that case would your recommendation be to leave everything in place, and provide documentation of all accounts? Or do you think it makes sense to just provide the investment account + savings account that totals 100k USD and alone satisfies the 3x requirement? We also have my in-law willing to act as a joint sponsor should the assets alone cause issues. We are a DCF application so are going to the interview with a second I-864A with our joint sponsor filled in. This would be acting as a back-up just in case.
  10. Hi folks, I wanted to clarify best approach here regarding using assets only. Our interview is in 2 weeks time and we are looking to use assets only due to no eligble income. Currently our assets are split across multiple savings/checking/investment accounts. I am being sponsored by a USC so require a minimum of 3x poverty line in assets. I'll be using assets that are in my name (the immigrant) so will be filing it under the i-864a document. Currently my assets are roughly split as follows: Investment account : 87,000 USD (global tracker fund) Savings account 1: 20,000 USD (instant access savings account - opened account last month to take advantage of higher yields) Savings accounts 2, 3, 4: roughly 2000$ spread across these Checking account 1: 5000 USD Checking account 2: (Joint account with my sponsor): 15000 USD Ideally, I want to make things as simple as possible from a documentation perspective. Since I have my interview booked in, I was thinking of making life easier by liquidating the investment account 1 and consolidating all my finances so that it is split between a single checking and savings account. My worry however, is whether these large transactions will end up causing me more issues than if I were to just leave things as is? My investment account has had roughly that amount in it for more than a year if that makes any difference? Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks
  11. Hi all, Currently have my medical scheduled for a DCF in London. Unfortunately there is only 1 appointment day available for me to schedule but it is 4 working days after my medical. I'm worried about the lack of slots and am unsure whether I should go ahead and secure/attend on the date in hopes that the medical results are sent over by then. What's worst case scenario if I get there and they haven't received the medical pack yet? How long is that likely to delay things and would they be holding my passport until things progress? Or am I overthinking this and should just wait for more appointments to become available? Thanks
  12. How did things go? Currently trying to book an appointment but only availability is 4 working days after the medical so can't risk it. No other dates available Do you know if there's a specific time that interview slots are updated?
  13. Hi all, Just finalising my DS-260 form and wanted to clarify regarding the 10 years employment history. Since 2013, I have had gaps in my employment ranging from a few weeks/months (relaxing before starting next role) to 1 year (gap year shortly after completing my undergrad). Also, for 2016-2017 I was enrolled in a postgrad that I have included in the "Have you attended any educational institutions at a secondary level or above?" section. Am I able to just keep the application as is? Or should I be expected to fill out the entire 10 year date range, including periods where I was unemployed or in education? Thanks
  14. Hi all, My birth certificate has my middle name on it, my passport and marriage certificate do not. As such, I requested for "Other names" to be my "FIRST MIDDLE LAST" I have just received my police certificate and they have only included my middle name in "Other names" without it also having my first and last. So it reads like this: SURNAME: SMITH FORENAME: ADAM Other names(s): JACOB (Middle name only) Is this going to be an issue going forward? Really frustrated as I called and emailed to double confirm.
  15. It was! Thank you. Good luck with the May 5th appointment. Would love it if you could report back on your outcome and next steps just to have a recent experience to lean on.
  16. Yes but I think reading other experiences here is where I was left confused. Or can I put it into different terms: If the assets are solely held in the beneficiary name, how is the beneficiary being sponsored? My understanding was that the Sponsor has to show they can support the beneficiary which is why I was thinking the assets need to be in my USC spouses name as they are the sponsor. Problem with transferring the liquid assets is more from an FX risk perspective as I like to transfer over X months to dollar cost average it. But if I am simply able to show the assets are in my name as the beneficiary, and that they are liquid in my local currency which roughly adds to 5-6x the poverty line, that won't cause any issues?
  17. Thanks. Looks like using assets makes sense. With regards to who's name the assets needs to be in, does it have to be in the sponsors name? As I mentioned in my OP, currently our assets are UK based and in my name to avoid tax complications for my SO. Do I need to withdraw these and transfer them into the sponsors bank account? Unsure if I need to make one massive transferwise transfer into my sponsors US bank account and ideally we wouldnt rush to do this due to the transaction fees etc.
  18. Hi All, I wanted to get some advice on which route to take regarding the I-864 document for IR-1 DCF filing. The context is as follows: Sponsor (USC) is going to Grad School in the US which is employer sponsored. The employer is also paying a $15000 stipend per year during this time Assets are held in non-US account totally roughly 100,000 USD. This is currently in beneficiary's name due to taxation issues but can be moved into Sponsors account if needed Sponsor parent is willing to act as a joint-sponsor and income more than meets minimum requirements Our original plan was to just declare the stipend in the US income and then use assets for remaining requirements. This avoids bothering my in-law to be joint sponsor. Now I'm thinking it might be better to file using only assets to avoid any confusion with the $15000 p/y stipend. Our backup option would be to use Sponsors parent. I have read a lot of stories about trying to make things easier for USC to approve, however given the above, I'm not sure which would qualify as "easier"? Currently thinking of taking 3x forms with us to the interview (DCF so not submitting it online). 1. Using the stipend + assets 2. Using just assets 3. Using assets + joint sponsor I'm not sure if we are failing to consider anything with the above? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. Hey! Also doing DCF and just waiting to receive ACRO before booking medical. Would you be able to describe your timeline/process from when you received your LDN case number? I'm confused about what to expect particularly due to the differences between DCF and non. Currently have partially completed the DS-260 online form but didn't want to complete it in case that triggered an interview date before we were ready with our medical. And we haven't booked the medical until we receive the ACRO. We are hoping to receive the ACRO before EoW. Thanks!
  20. Sorry for the specifics but just for clarity, if your middle names were XYZ, do you put just the XYZ in your other name or did you include your passport names too? I.E first name XYZ last name or just XYZ Thanks
  21. Thanks! How about for your police certificate? Are you requesting it under your passport name or your birth certificate with all 5? I am unsure if I should request it as FIRST LAST and have a section called "other names" with FIRST MIDDLE LAST Or if I should just do FIRST MIDDLE LAST which is inconsistent with passport, i130a filing and marriage certificate.
  22. Hi all, I posted this on the UK forum but haven't received a response and as such, wanted to repost here. Context: My birth certificate shows my middle name but all other legal documentation does not. DCF filing in UK. Just spoke to my SO (sponsor) and she said she had to take my passport + birth certificate when she filed DCF i130a in London and they raised no issues at the time. So I guess the question I have is, should I include my middle name in police certificate and future forms now, or keep consistency with the i130 and just have my first and last name? For example: Birth certificate state: FIRST NAME: JOHN MIDDLE NAME: ADAM FAMILY NAME: SMITH i130, Passport & Marriage certificate state: GIVEN (FIRST) NAME: JOHN FAMILY (LAST) NAME: SMITH Now I am worried that my i130 lacking my middle name will cause issues for the rest of the paperwork if I were to include it on everything else going forward. How should I best proceed in this case? I'd have presumed that this would've been flagged at the time of submission when they saw the difference between passport and birth certificate? Thanks
  23. Sorry I didnt you are correct. Total liquid cash including S&S ISA would be roughly £100k total. My in-laws would also happily act as a joint-sponsor if needed, just didn't want to bother them unless required. Is it possible to go there attempting to file solely with the above assets, but also holding a joint sponsor form ready if they need it? Appreciate your help btw.
  24. How about if we liquidated the S&S ISA, transferwise it to my SO's US checking account so it's in her name? Would that be enough? Or for clarity - is your response based on the need for there to be > 0$ income, or that it needs to be assets in the sponsors name? Thanks
