My mother's father completed a I-130 petition for my mother, father and my 2 siblings.

If I complete a I-130 petition, will the petition that my grandfather completed get canceled?

When my wife went to get her biometrics on October 22, 2010, she was told that her new card should be arriving in the mail. Do they typically tell you that on the day of our biometrics?

I-751 - mailed 9/24/2010

I just sent my wife's I-751 packet out on Saturday and I just realized I had a typo. Instead of K-3 I put K-1 on my coverletter. What should I do? I also included the following as evidence:

Copy of her passport, greencard, social security card

Copy of the crib card and birth certificate

copy of my license and her license

copy of our joint car insurance

copy of our last 3 months bank statements and letter from the bank showing when she was added to the account.

copy of our credit cards.

The only thing I screwed up was on the cover letter I accidentally put K-1 instead of K-3. I hope this doesnt initiate an interview.

The USCIS approved the Family based petition a few weeks ago. I just called NVC and received the case number from them. How long does it take after the case number is issued to send out the choice of agent forms and other documentations. What else do we need to start preparing. The visa will be issued in Mumbai, India. Please let me know. Thanks.

Do I have still have to go to the Social Security Office to get the SSN even though on my DS-230 we checked we need a SSN or will it come in the mail. I am kinda lost on this part.

Couple of questions:

1) Is there a separate line for CR1 visa holders outside of the embassy or you have to stand in same line as visitor visa, student visa etc.?

2) You said your wife waited till 2:30. How did they call her? Do they have token system or just announce her name on broadcast system?

I will have to ask her that. I think it was a number system.

My wife lined up in line at the consulate around 7:00 and around 7:45 they took her fingerprints and gave back the originals and told her to wait. Around 2:30 pm they finally called her number and the interview lasted less than 5 minutes. Here are some of the questions:

Who is the petitioner?

How and where you met?

HOw long have you been married?

Show us your pictures from marriage.

How well is your relationship?

That was about it. They didnt look at none of our phone records or other evidence.

She got her passport at 5:30 pm and now heading back home.

She said the consulate officer was very friendly..

I have a buddy of mined who called me to tell me that his wife's interview is in December. He asked me for advice. He had gone through a divorce with his previous wife and she came here on her K-1 Visa. After his divorce he went back to india and got remarried and then filed an I-130 so he can bring his wife here on a CR-1. Will he run into any obstacles with the Consulate. What type of quesitons will they ask his wife about the divorce. They can not ask stuff like why did he get married to soon and stuff.

I was advised today that my wife needs to take Tax Transcripts with her to the Mumbai Consulate. I do not have the tax transcripts so I am going to get IRS to fax them to me. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Also, what are some other pointers for the interview that I need to be aware of in Mumbai?

My wife just took the whole package I sent her from here to the VFS and they accepted all photocopies and did not mention anything. I did not submit AOS because I did that in USA but I did send her a copy of the whole AOS package. I am just a little tense as the interview date is approaching.

I have an update for my case:

My wife still hasn't received anything in the mail from Mumbai consulate for the interview? She only received NVC letter confirming the interview. Nothing from Mumbai consulate... So I decided to email them, but their reply was just generic and it didn't make any sense to me....

Here was their reply:

"She can take the letter she has received from the NVC along with all the documents and submit them to VFS office."

I had my wife schedule the exam and she finished the exam couple days back. Now, my worry is that will she be able to enter the consulate based on just the letter from NVC and nothing from Consulate?

Let me know if it's sufficient to get entry in consulate based on just NVC interview letter??

Well, you can always go to the Consulate and get them to print you an appointment letter. We have submitted everything to VFS yesterday and they said that it was all good. We had not missing documents.

I have the interview on November 17th. We have already gotten our medical done in Surat at the Apollo. We are submitting all documents to VFS and that includes: DS-230, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Copy of PCC and original PCC from Passport Office. We will not be submitting the I-864 because it states that we dont have to. Also, why is it advisable to buy a ticket from USA and not India. Is there that much of a difference in price. My POE will be in Memphis, TN. So I will be using NWA/KLM for my airline.

I am going to the second route as well, will submit courier fee at VFS and take all the documents to consulate.

I am wondering, I did submit certified birth certificate at NVC, so do I need to submit the original one anywhere or can just take it directly to consulate and show them if they wish for.

Plus the letter from Consulate also talks about DS-230 form, what you guys are going to do? Submit yet another copy of DS-230 at VFS or take it consulate?

Well even if submitting to VFS I will not fill out another one but just print the one I already submitted at NVC and have her sign it and give it.

Most likely we will be just taking that to consulate. VFS usually asks you for that as they want to verify if you have all the documents you need before interview.

My wife lives in a village of India and the internet is extremely slow so we never use the method of communicating online. However, we do try to talk 2 times a day everyday. Do I need to worry about the emails as evidence? I have proof that I went to see my wife again during the summer and we went to Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand for her birthday.

You definitely want more evidence of communication than the proof that you went to meet her (which is, of course, important too). Make sure that you are using a method of phone communication which provides you with records of your calls. For most of my relationship both me and my fiance had Indian Vodafone pre-pay phones and thus were not able to get any records of our calls, so if you're using something like that switch as soon as possible...but if you have consistent phone records e-mails shouldn't be important.

Yes, I have all that and it is printed off. I used Startec Communications so I was able to print my bills. She also, has used vodafone cards and also proof when she called from the call station.

I am so lost with this whole thing. We willl be sending photocopies of everything along with our courier fee. They are not askig you to pay the 400 dollars. It states that if you have already paid at NVC then u dont have to but if you have not completed the payment process at NVC then you have to pay.

Here is the email they sent me so therefore you must submit the packet 4 with photocopies to the VFS office prior to the interview.

YES, you should sumbit the douments 15 days before the interview and not less than 10 days before the interview to VFS onotherhand kindly follow the guidelines of the PACKET 4, even thou you sumbit before, it requirment of the visa proceses that you should sumbit again, you may miss some of the doumnets like medical records or missing docments,

So I can give the VFS people the medical and passport. Also, my wife only has copies of the I-864 so what do we do in this situation. Should I just submit copies of the PCC? I have copies of everything. I guess I can make copies of whatever I got and just submit that.

I am still confused about this Packet 4 that the Consulate in India has sent my wife. I filed everything from America and have submitted all documents that they are requiring us to submit to the consulate. For whoever has had their interview in Mumbai please respond. If you have submitted those at NVC, then no, you don't need to submit those again, but yes you will have to take medical test and can either submit at VFS or consulate itself.

that makes sense. Wife and their agent keep saying you have to. I looked at all the documents and I was like wow I sent all those already. Why would the Consulate send us that Packet 4 and the appointment letter. You have an appointment right after us did you receive that sort of letter in the mail yet.
