  1. Thanks. For VAWA green card holders applying for citizenship online, do we need to submit proof of ex spouse(abuser) citizenship? marriage certificate(to the abuser)? divorce decree(from the abuser)? proof of bonafide marriage (with the abuser) such as joint bank accounts, joint taxes, joint leases, etc?
  2. Hello, does anybody know if applying for citizenship for a person who got her green card through VAWA is the same as for any other applicant? or do VAWA green card holders need to submit extra documents or extra steps in the application? Where do you think I can get more information on this? Do you think hiring a lawyer is necessary or is it something I can do on my own? Do you recommend applying online or by mail? Thank you.
  3. hi all, I got my green card through VAWA and in january i'm eligible to apply for citizenship. what documents, women that got our green card through VAWA, need to submit in order to apply for citizenship? does anyone has a list? for VAWA citizenship petitioners is it better to apply online or by mail? and Do you think is it necessary to hire a lawyer for help with the process?
  4. Thank you. Do you think that if I make the trips shorter like 2 or 3 months trips outside the US and coming back to the US in between them for a couple months instead of a long one of 5 months would avoid problems with CBP and with my naturalization?
  5. I'm pretty sure I qualify for the 3 year rule. But that was not even my main concern. I just want to know if I can travel abroad to take care of my parents and still have a chance to apply for citizenship with proof of why I had to make trips out of the country
  6. I got my GC through VAWA, I'm no longer married to my USC spouse. For the 3 year rule, I suppose I would have to reuse the documentation and evidence I used when I applied to VAWA? My GC was approved without an interview.
  7. Thanks for the answer. What kind of physical presence difficulties would I have to deal with? By the time of filing I will have the required amount of physical presence. What difficulties associated with obtaining GC through VAWA would I have to deal with?
  8. The 3 year rule and the 5 year rule is something one must choose like from and option in a form? Like announcing to USCIS I'm filing under the 3 year rule? how much less evidence and simpler is under the 5 year rule? can you share some links with information about that?
  9. Thank you for the answer. Putting aside the naturalization, do you know if I take trips of 4 or 5 months and then come back to the US for only one month and travel again for 4 or 5 months, would that put me at risk of losing my green card? or to be admitted in the US?
  10. Hello all, I got my green card through VAWA, I was married to a US citizen. I'm eligible to apply for naturalization in December 2023. Since my green card was issued in March 2021, I made 3 trips overseas; the first one for 1.5 months, the second for 3.5 months, and the third one for 5.5 months. My main question is: Is it okay if I take another 5 months trip after staying in the US for only one month? It's because my parents are with delicate health and I would like to be with them. Would I have any problems when I come back? Would that put my chances of becoming a citizen at risk? For the physical presence requirement, since my green card was issued I've been present in the US for 14 months, and outside the US for 10.5 months. By the time I'm eligible to apply (at 2 years and 9 months) in December 2023, do I need to have been present in the US for 16.5 months which is half the time of the 2 years and 9 months or 18 months which is half the time of 3 years? Thank you.
